I found a UA-cam video about Chicken/Pigeon hybrids and Peacock/Chicken hybrids and have been laughing in astonishment randomly for almost 36 hours now, so...yeah. Hybrids are crazy.
Baby # 11, one more and Sir David and Miss Rachel will have achieved the "Cheaper by the dozen" authored by John Kenneth Gilbreth(correct me on his lastname).😊
Great seeing the results but I would have appreciated seeing the family sit down and taste test some of the very different ones and add their opinions.
When your son said "watermelon and cream cheese" I laughed as my wife is Greek, and she loves watermelon and Halloumi Cheese. The Cheese can be salty and seems to go well with watermelon. She got me hooked on it.
I think it's good to have both small and large watermelons -- small families (like the two people in my household) can use a small melon, while large families like yours may want the big melons. So keep going, and keep growing!
It's lovely to do your own landrace varieties - it's how regional and family Heirloom varieties begin! When you find one (or several) you really like, you keep planting those to reinforce their diverse genetics and the particular growing conditions. Saving seeds means you can then name that seed blend "The Good Lower Alabama Watermelon" or something. 😁
The watermelon pattern would make a great camoflauge pattern! lol I got to talk with Ezekiel at the first Scrubfest almost two years ago. He was very smart and knowledgeable about gardening even then, and I'm sure he'll come up with some great landraces in the future.
Yesss 😅 been waiting for this one! And also seriously thank you David for sharing your family and man it’s going to be very cool to see Ezekiel’s experiments as he gets older 😊
I threw all my old watermelons into my compost for the 2nd year. The compost got hot enough to break down into soil but not hot enough to kill the seeds. Fast forward there is watermelon vine stretching across my entire back yard throughout the entire garden. I have no idea how many melons are out there but most of the crops seem to love the vine keeping the soil moist for them. So I feel ya!
Wonderful to watch.. Can't help but think (Know) your son knows more about gardening than I.. lol.. which is good.. It's a skill & knowledge he's going to need.. a And it's been great to follow along with this "experiment".. 😊 ❤ a Canadian fan
@jeroid123 Pffffttthhhh!! 😆 Nahhhh, I guess I'm just coordinated & also aware of my actions and surroundings. It's something I learned very early in life bcuz I was not a child wrapped in bubblewrap. Scissors aren't scary when you're aware. No need to worry myself over it. Teach the kids at a young age to be careful & aware instead of removing the issue. Kids don't have to get hurt by such things in order to learn. Besides- How will they ever learn if there's always a helicopter buzzing around them creating that "safety bubble" ??? The answer is- they won't learn. THAT'S when they become a danger to themselves & others. Just sayin...
request for black pumpkin seeds if you so choose to share/sell!!!! if you think they’ll thrive in south florida heat that is…. and blessings to you all. ❤
The huge watermelon reminds me of Sunday afternoons in South Africa out in the garden eating until you were really full. At 73 living in the UK for the last 19 years it makes me homesick. I think I have ever bought two watermelons here because I don't trust them. Although I had some good experience with friend's watermelons. Thank you for your great programs. How about some singing.☺️
I've watched alot of your channel, this is my favorite, its heart warming. You raised a lovely young man, with so much understanding of genetics from hands on experience, I hope you share his progress, his passion for this is strong. Sending love to you and your family from manchester uk😊
Enjoy your watermelons! I've been gardening in earnest for 5 years now and have yet to produce a watermelon or cantaloupe. They never get mature enough. NC Iowa. However, I get a huge harvest of tomatoes, cabbage, and carrots every season. Grow what works.😊
What an absolutely abundant and beautiful garden. Definitely the most brilliant display of God's harvest. Best gardening family ever! Simple living, high thinking
your son is super smart, very cool landrace melon project. i need to start growing my own watermelons because the store melons were great last year and all were horrible this year
So cool. I am experimenting my self with saving seed and seeing if the plants get acclimated to my area. Love your content! All glory to God! Stay bold brother.
Love it that your sense of humor seems to be genetic too. 🍈 Love the little saying, "I'll have that piece." 🍉 Love everyone sketching the harvest. 😍 Guess I could've just said: Love the channel... 💞🌱🌻
Thanks for all your videos David! I love seeing your family involved. I've got a small yard that I'm trying to figure out how to use efficiently. I'm in North Alabama but if I can ever catch up with you I'd love to chat...
Loved this Goodstream about Ezequiel's Watermelon patch, and lol at the end, not just the standard, red-colored watermelon, also yellow-colored!😂Thank you for sharing this glimpse of the Good Grocery Row Garden David, 👍and rejoined to this IRIE Channel! 🍉🍉
I love the whole jungle vibe of your garden. Do you have to worry about ticks? (When we have extra melon, we dehydrate it. We call it melon candy and it lasts about 5 minutes before it is eaten, so I have no idea what the shelf life is.)
I can't stop thinking of names for the new varieties!! Kiel's Black Or Ezekiel's Black And if it's yellow inside - Kiel's Black Gold ! Let's just name them ALL !!! 😂 Watermelon is my FAVORITE fruit! I planted some seeds for the 1st time this year, but I got a late start, so I don't know if they'll produce any fruit? But I'm extremely optimistic nonetheless!!! I took the seed from a Texas grown watermelon, one of those giant sized watermelons like the biggest long one Ezekiel has! BTW - His harvest looks JUST GLORIOUS!!! Congratulations Ezekiel !!!!! Since I'm located in Central Tx, & the watermelon I got the seed from probably grew within 200 miles of my location, I figured that was a good start for seed!! (200 miles is just the same as a next door neighbor over here in Texas, and pretty much the same weather in any direction.) Since I bought the melon from the grocery store I have no idea the variety. But it said Texas grown! (We have a really good grocery store that buys produce from the local farmers.) The watermelon was super sweet, & just perfect in every way! Which is why I decided to plant those particular seeds. I planted them in sort of a compost pile... (sort of...) (And I was thinking of you DTG sneaking up on your compost pile and "accidentally" dropping your seeds while doing it!) The only compost pile I have is a 4 foot deep bed of 1 year old woodchips. It's only about half way broken down. It's also about a 30 foot long bed full of those chips! 4 truck loads! The temperature deep inside stays at about 95° these days. And I rarely water it. It would probably be hotter inside if we had more rain, but we're in our 3rd year of drought right now, so the woodchips are only 95° & slow to decompose. I'm just waiting for that big bed of chips to turn into rich soil!! Meanwhile, I'm trying out some watermelons! Although, with 7 watermelon vines growing in it, I am going to have to start watering it now!!! Anyway, the seeds sprouted right away & are just now starting to take off into vines!! It's all very exciting to me bcuz I've never grown watermelon before! Luckily, we have a really long growing season, so even if I have to wait until September to have homegrown watermelon, so be it. (It will probably still be hot in September, might even be hot into October!) Any homegrown watermelon will be extremely welcome at any time!!! If anyone has any tips for me, I'm all 👂's !
You know what the word "kindergarten" means: children's garden. It used to be a public place (commons) or roof tops where children could grow fruits, berries, and vegetables so they understood how food grows. Wild experimentation is par for the course.
He seems so disappointed that they are small, but the reason I only buy one a year is because we can't eat that much before it goes bad. I would love to grow small ones that we could eat for one meal and not feel bad about wasting the rest, or filling up an entire refrigerator shelf with leftovers.
Or making watermelon popsicles. Or watermelon juice. Or watermelon juice mixed with blueberry juice. Or watermelon juice mixed with ANY fruit juice! Or just frozen bite size squares of wonderful watermelon! Frozen watermelon squares mixed with frozen grape snacks are SO refreshing on a hot day! Kids LOVE them too! They also make fantastic ice cubes for ice tea ! Or even just frozen cubes for water! Or just freeze some blocks of it and figure out later what to make! Just SO many good things to do with left over watermelon!! Also - watermelon is nature's thirst quencher on those hot sweltering days. It's a natural electrolyte. Buy more watermelons!! 🍉🍉🍉🍉🍉

That's awesome! Wish I'd gotten around to planting melons this year. I managed to snag an osage orange fruit off a tree at the Alabama Safari place not far from you. We stopped at the Mennonite store near you to get a few things and I saw the revised and expanded Florida Food Forest book, signed. Should've picked it up but I ordered it as well as the new book from Amazon. Those grocery rows looked great.

You should be proud of your son. He sounds so intelligent when he talks.
"I'll have that 'peace'" The peace of knowing that your kids are learning to grow food for themselves. OUTSTANDING!!!
I love that "I'll have that piece".
Best watermelon and cantaloupe harvest I ever had was when we threw leftover seeds on a quarter acre and forgot about it. Hauled loads to town
That is so cool
We love watching you father your babies. BRAVO. God bless your family David!

Mixing watermelons is like a box of chocolates lol

Try it with basil and feta
I always sprinkle salt and have a piece of cheese with my melon. Any melon, any cheese, Just Eat It! 😋 👍🧓
Watermelon Feta salad. Look it up. You won't be disappointed.

Super cool to have a plant geneticist in the family 🥰
Looks like a snake pit in there. Love it!
Love how these watermelons are all hiding away almost like "he won't find me here..."

Try blacktail mountain watermelon from Pine Hill Preservation. I believe Glenn Drowns who bred it is in Iowa or Idaho. He bred them for short seasons.
