    Looking back, in this lot they were probably the equivalent of 2013 finals already. SO DAMN CLEAN.

    It's all because the man Paul Rennick decided to come teach Santa Clara over Carolina Crown. Hence the torch passing off. The only man, who might have Scott Johnson and Mike McIntosh beat. Love it! Just check out his main line the emphamis University of North Texas A line indoor drumline!

    The 2012 Vanguard drum break is still the best one I've heard in my life, past or present. I'm talking about the one before they changed it.

    No Wonder you guys won the BEST DRUM LINE for DCI 2014!
    You just WoWeD me! 8 Snares playing this "nonsense" sticking and it sounds like just one snare playing alone! Very tight my friends. Congrats for your 2014 DCI. Sidenote: what a percussion coach you must have... Say thanks to him.

    Anyone who knows anything about SCV knows that they love to play triplet subdivisions of almost everything. I love SCV because their entire percussion is awesome--even the pit! It's nice to have a great pit; it adds an awesome flare to everything. And don't even get me started on the marching cymbals! Old school and BA. Great stuff! Love that stick trick at 1:50!

    how early do lines start warming up in the lots? I have a DCI show tomorrow and would love to watch some of the drumlines warm up like this. How early should I be there to catch them?

      I'd say probably an hour before their performance time, an hour and a half if you want to play it safe.

    The tenor looks like they can pull off a boy band.

  • @budgerigarz
    @budgerigarz 10 років тому

    Is it just me, or is SCV playing more aggressively this year? Seems like they're really using a lot of muscle in their playing, a la Lee Beddis...

  • @michaell.8938
    @michaell.8938 10 років тому

    Drum line music is getting so predictable these days. Same runs up and down the bass drums, same licks on tenors and snares. It's getting boring to watch for me.

  • @grubmane2030
    @grubmane2030 10 років тому

    Lol I hate to say it, but the quads look and sound lame... Like they're clean, but their book is boring.. Maybe they're all new? If so, I hope Rennick writes a harder book for them if they all stay.

  • @petarpwnsuall
    @petarpwnsuall 10 років тому +2

    how to write scv music: take the previous year's beats and just scramble

    • @Pez5688
      @Pez5688 10 років тому +6

      You could literally say that about any percussion arranger in DCI. Or any composer for that matter. It isn't at all uncommon to use ideas or phrases in other pieces, especially if it works.

    • @petarpwnsuall
      @petarpwnsuall 10 років тому

      especially true for rennick though. no denying that

    • @IamSeafarer
      @IamSeafarer 10 років тому +6

      petarpwnsuall Yeah, but Rennicks beats are so good that they just need a little scrambling to sound fresh.

    • @joshhowell5334
      @joshhowell5334 10 років тому

      Listen to Cadets, there are so many subtle licks from last year.

    • @jadenmccallum17
      @jadenmccallum17 9 років тому +1

      He's not reusing stuff, he has his own style that he likes to follow, as mentioned earlier, every arranger does this. I see way more recycled sections in Bluecoats books than in SCV, its just that Rennicks books tend to not fluctuate in overall style much.
