    I think we can all agree that 8:22-8:45 is INCREDIBLE.

    I have been around drum corps since 1970, and this is the biggest "WOW" I can give. This is the best I have ever heard, and I have heard them all. Writing, performance, it is all there. That said, there have been so many greats over the past 50 years, all making the activity what it is today. Congrats Mr. Rennick.

    Gorgeous snare tuning. No cardboard was harmed in the making of this video.

    The camera work on this perplexes me at times, like, it looks like there should be a drone or cameraman in a shot but they just disappear

    anybody know why the snares harnesses are painted differently? there’s less white as you go left to right

    What was with the cymbals being super disciplined and tight after the last note, then cymbal dude on the sideline is just letting his mess sway in the breeze?

    • @lukeparsons4965
      @lukeparsons4965 4 роки тому

      Jeff Mansfield the cymbal play in the front was part of the pit, so he doesn’t have to move in time.

    • @jeffmansfield914
      @jeffmansfield914 4 роки тому

      Luke Parsons I’m not talking about moving in time. I’m talking about when the performance is over after the last note, the entire group is stoic and still like a tight military group at attention, but the cymbal guy in the pit is just fidgeting his cymbals back and forth.

    • @lukeparsons4965
      @lukeparsons4965 4 роки тому +1

      Jeff Mansfield I know, I worded that really bad, he’s in a different style because of that, he can essentially move however he wants most of the time, as long as he’s plays all the notes correctly and in time with uniform technique as to the rest of the pit, as long as it’s not distracting or taking away from the show.

    • @jeffmansfield914
      @jeffmansfield914 4 роки тому +2

      Luke Parsons I marched percussion for several years and have followed DCI and percussion organizations for decades. I’m familiar with the differences between the pit and the battery in terms of movement. Yes, during the performance, the players in the pit have more freedom to move around than the battery, which needs to look uniform. However, when the performance ended, all other players, including members of the pit, came back to motionless attention... except for the one guy flopping his cymbals like he can’t stand still for a moment. He is the only thing moving and it was distracting and took away from the otherwise very tight and disciplined show.
      Did it ruin the performance? No. Was it a big deal? No. But, it was noticeable and distracting in that he stood out by moving at a time when everyone else had frozen at the end of the show.

      @@jeffmansfield914 Super late, but this run could have very well been edited from many runs put together, and maybe the closer run that ended up in the video sounded the best, but had that little hiccup so they let it slide. Food for thought

    Great visual clarity on the video. I just wish the SOUND-production was mixed with more high-mids. Lows are really drowning out the articulations. It’s much too filtered of mids. This is a DRUM CORPS video. Not a rap song.

    Best percussion ensemble out there. People talk about snarelines quads and basses, but this is what really matters. Putting it all together in an ensemble. Brilliant as always

    Wish the video crew had enough knowledge to know to Video the tympani player playing that part at 3 minutes. Would have really loved to see how he operated the pedal in that spot.

    This more perfectly expresses my admiration for Rennick's '17 SCV crew:
