Please react to her "The Phantom of the Opera" version live with Nightwish. In this song you can't see her full potential because the song was made to be more commercial and easy to sale. You will also love Marco as "the phantom".
Know Why The Nightingale Sings was my first song I heard from NW. I thought, what a weird song. I had to buy buy the CD. Idk, but everything before "Once" I found much better than everything that came after.
Actually, what you hear is a real orchestra from London, the same that was used in the Lord of the Rings movies. It's on the entire album and because of that, it became the most expensive studio recording ever in Finland.
And live there are SOME parts that are sampled into Tuomas' synths, but most of it is backing tracks there. And to my understanding Tuomas is using the same synths as he did whemnthey started (I think he, or one of the tech guys, said once that he has one or two "new" ones left of those, and once they break down he might have to start looking around 🤣). But I think Geebz meant more like the development of the samples, even though the hardware has of course developed too... but Tuomas likes what he's used to.
and is still garbage. but thats my opinion. my opinion based on decades of experience. mind you, my taste in music varies and is not restricted. so my dislike of crapwish does not stem from the genre. its the literal construction of the music. it sounds generic, common, sounds like "something i've heard before" ya know? like..nothing new or..no real substantial feeling or emotion. when i listen to a song, as a musician, i hear the drums and i think, "yup, learned that rhythm when i was 12"and i try not to be critical and i try to find enjoyment in things i dislike to try and gain an appreciation, but this...this i can not do with nightwish..it really seems to me that im in an episode of black mirror where im trapped in a world where nightwish has brainwashed the entire world except me, into thinking they are good and i walk around & see people with blacked out eyes, in a monotone voice repeating chants praising nightwish...
@@1480-b5g Well... all I can say to YOU is: good luck finding something that doesn't "sound like I've heard it before". As that can be said about any music at this point.
Some of my favs for old Nightwish: - Passion and the Opera - Stargazers - Wishmaster - The Kinslayer - End of All Hope But there's nary a song that isn't really good. So you're gonna get a zillion suggestions for them lol
Tarja sings on 5 albums and a couple of EPs. Nemo is from the album once wich is her last one with Nightwish , it came out 2004.. their first album came out 1997..
Tarja Turunen was the original singer for their epic song Ghost Love Score. I suggest you check her version out as well, as she gives it a more operatic sound.
Here is my personal view on Ghost Love Score with Tarja. I think that for the Tarja, the studio version of Ghost Love Score is best. This is not because I do not consider Tarja to badly perform live. Quite the contrary, both Tarja and Floor are excellent live performers. However, the reason for my preference is that the original version of Ghost Love Score is very orchestra and choir heavy and is not so well suited for live performance. The climaxes in the original versions are the choir and Tarja lets her voice fade away for those parts. In the Tarja live versions, Nightwish tries to be close to the original. However, in a live concert, it simply sounds wrong when the climax of a song is not the part that is played live, but the part that is prerecorded. In so far, the major shift in emphases in the Floor version with the orchestra and the choir being moved to the background at the live musicians and the vocalist being emphasized makes the live performance much more epic. This is most obvious in the end of the song which has been modified significantly and the high notes sung by Floor have been added as new climax that didn’t exist in this form in the original song.
@@MarcelCox1 For me, i really love those longer orchestral parts, in Tarjas version, especially in the ending of the song. I think there is a good balance with the orchestra and Tarjas voice.
@@johnnytiger7580 What would be cool if Nightwish could do a concert with full live orchestra and choir, just like Epica did for the Retrospect concert.
@@MarcelCox1 I think they will do it at some point. They've gained new fans like crazy within the last 18 months or so (thanks to all these great reactors on YT and Twitch) and more and more people are "demanding" that one off megaconcert (well, might as well do two on cosecutive days once they arrange it). And they have said that it would be nice to do it, but "it's not easy to arrange". Well, they have been a touring band thus far, but after the oncoming tour they could have a small break and make it happen.
Phantom of the opera live is a must from her, also showcases Marko in equal measure This is not from the early days, but from their last album with her, already 5 albums in. Ghost love score was from the same album This was their first album of selling out just a little bit and going for more mainstream, which turned out to be a great choice, since this album really boosted up their popularity outside of Finland and Germany.
@@David-fj3kn soaring vocals are amazing. I always remember that as the grawwws was greener pink floyd song. This version sounded great. Added to playlist🤘 ua-cam.com/video/gWFqgw2T2HQ/v-deo.html
This was one of the first songs I heard from them. Believe it or not I think it reached 14 on the charts here in Australia...how times have changed haha the good old days when you could still hear this kind of thing in the mainstream
Definitely Scaretale and album version. The best spooky-metal slash sircus metal song ever composed. There is one great fan made video from that which combines live clips with Imaginaerum movie and Storytime video. But that "official" live version is horrible. If it needs to be live, then I recommend to search my remastered version.
heya, geebz, i'm glad you got to hear her sing this son. i like her version better than even floor's, and that's saying somehting. the next tarja song you should hear is actually a cover. "phantom of the opera". oh, yeah. the best version, ever.
Actually, Once is the 5th album of Nightwish... You should watch a video with Tarja live, she's awesome. Back in the day, every girl wanted to be Tarja, and every boy wanted Tarja (for obvious reasons)
Tarja's vocals are usually far more operatic. Please react to the Nightwish rendition "The Phantom of the Opera". Her operatic style vocals fit the song, and Marko is awesome as The Phantom. With Anette: "Meadows of Heaven", studio/album version, no good quality live version available. There is a fan made video with beatiful landscapes. The build-up towards the end of the song! OR "Slow Love Slow" Montreux Jazz Festival 2012
Agree completely with these suggestions! Meadows of Heaven, sung by Anette is my favorite by her...great song, and the video you suggest is the best one!
Listen to Tarja's solo album, "I Walk Alone." Saw Nightwish 2xs with Annette, but I had the privilege of seeing Tarja on her solo tour, standing 5 feet from ithe stage. Her presence is larger than life and her voiceis spectacular!
The video is from 2004. Their first big international hit. The last album she worked with them on. She was fired after the last tour date for the album. She was 26 when this filmed. It does not even begin to show off her range demonstrated in her single career. Check out her version of Phantom of the opera to see what see can do. After she left, Amnette Olson was brought in until a few years later she was let go while in the hospital over Christmas giving birth to her child. Floor Jansen brought in. Tarja ( tar-ya closest English pronouncion of her Name) Turren has many singles. My last breath, I feel immortal, I walk alone being radio freindly. Annette. Bye bye beautiful is about Tarja and Ammerath feature Annette.
This is actually from their fifth album, titled “Once,” released in 2004. It was their last studio album with Tarja on vocals. This is the one Tarja era song for which I prefer Tarja’s studio version to Floor’s live version...I think because it’s one of the too few songs where Tarja isn’t all-opera-all-the-time.
While I tend to prefer Tarja on most of these older songs, I have to say that I enjoy Floor's versions almost as much. Difference is usually about 99 vs 100 or 99.9 vs 100.0 🤏 and some days it's reverse. Some days you just need to listen to old NW, sometimes new, and most of the days you need both.
I can usually go back and forth between Tarja and Floor, but this one, for whatever reason, I always want to hear Tarja singing it. Maybe, like you said, it is because she isn't all opera while singing it so it became extra special.
The reason for me personally is Floor tend to sing this one way too high for her so it sounds like she's tired and straining her voice because she's adding twang to it to make it brighter and high enough for the song, while Tarja only uses head voice without twang so the high notes sound better and clearer. I think this song is in Floor's break or bridge (the point where a singer switches between 2 different singing registers) so that's why it sounds off when she sings it. But I'm sure she got better control of that since then and can slide between the registers easily now in the newer albums and songs.
i think this song was really their first commercial breakthrough. If you are looking for live performances with Tarja, the last concert they did together before she left (or was cordially invited to leave) it's called End of an Era. There are plenty of songs from the dvd on youtube. "Wishmaster" is a solid song from that concert.
Tarja did not "leave" - nor was she "invited to leave". "Cordially"? Give me a break! She was cold bloodedly kicked out minutes after their last concert "End of an Era" in Helsinki on 21 October 2005, with an open letter. No discussions, no negotiations. Just fired her. They kept her in the dark all through the concert, with no indication whatsoever (except what I noticed - being in the audience myself - there was basically no interaction in between the band and Tarja. A kind of distant coldness...) And when they had finished the concert, with her full support to it - "You're fired!"
fun fact - in Russian metal community Nightwish was very popular with their first albums, while Once got really mixed reception. Metal fans were like "now it is not symphonic metal, it is movie trailer metal!". and after Tarja to this day huge majority of them are just refuse to acknowledge new Nightwish of solo Tarja project as anything noteworthy. Strangely enough when i noticed to some of them that Floor made some Tarja songs more "metal" they still say something like "it is not the same!"
Ahhh good old Tarja, how I miss her, got Nightwish to know with her and never liked them more. Everlasting suggestion: The Faceless - Autotheist Movement 1-3 because ist is technical instrumental perfection and includes so much surprising moments in composition and engineering.
If you wanna hear more Tarja you should check "The siren", "Slaying the dreamer", "Wishmaster" and "Phantom of the opera", all from "End of an era" concert
“Beauty OF the Beast” as opposed to “Beauty AND the Beast”, which is a completely different song and “Dead Gardens” are two songs that haven’t been touched since Tarja left the band and I just love them both. “Dead Gardens” is an angry song that Tuomas composed when he was suffering from writer’s block and you can hear the anger and frustration in the song, it’s awesome! “Beauty of the Beast” is just sensational!
I never got on board with post-Tarja Nightwish, I just love her vocals too much. For more Tarja Nightwish stuff I'd suggest "Phantom of the Opera", "End of All Hope", and "Dead to the World". Thanks as always!
Since you have chosen Nemo by Tarja the first vocalist it is a good continuation to explore Amaranth by Anette the second vocalist. Amaranth follows a similar composition with a killer hook right from the start (and with the same D minor chord base) and Tuomas the main brain behind the music throws in variations and a heavier bass and guitar riffs to the song. The symphonic elements sound more prominent as well
From a composer standpoint, I think you'd really appreciate songs like Sleeping Sun, Swanheart, Gethsemane, Stargazers, The Pharoah Sails to Orion, Dead Boy's Poem and Walking In the Air. All are Tarja tracks, and all show Tuomas's early composing style. The Phantom of The Opera (End of An Era) is also a brilliant retake on the old Broadway classic (and Andrew Webber's favorite variation).
Great reaction and I'm so happy that you went back to Nightwish. A song that I'd like to suggest for you to react is Beauty Of the beast the studio version, please. It's truly a massive song in every sense and a classic. Doing the studio version is important as they didn't play it much live(complex massive sound) and there are not good live version online(sadly) to see. Thank you
Some of my favorite Nightwish tracks with Tarja singing are "Gethsemane," "Know Why the Nightingale Sings," "Wishmaster," "Fantasmic" (if you're a Disney fan, you might love that one), and "Wish I Had An Angel." Some of my favorite songs with Anette Olzon singing are "Scaretale," "Last Ride of the Day," "Storytime," "Amaranth," "I Want My Tears Back," and "Sahara."
New sub. Australian. Here for Nightwish and more symphonic metal. Within Temptation, Delain, Epica, Xandria.... Tuomas Holopaionen is still using his Korgs! Tuomas and Pip Williams arranged and conducted the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Metro Voices Choir for the orchestral parts on this (2004) and subsequent albums. Ghost Love Score was on this album, "Once", and was impressive from the start! I recommend hearing the original versions as well as the latter ones - maybe some double-reactions? Anette was great at the 2012 Monteaux concert - e.g. "Slow, Love, Slow" and the official videos from the album (and movie!) "Imaginaerum". She was hit and miss live but her contribution includes the survival/continuation of the band!!!
Some good Tarja era songs for you to check out would be Stargazers Wishmaster Over the Hills and Far Away 10th Man Down Sleeping Sun Dead Boy's Poem Planet Hell I wish I had an Angel
This was my absolute favorite Nightwish song for years and I'm beyond thrilled that you covered it! And with Tarja too! For Anette's songs, "Master Passion Creed" is a wild ride. "7 Days to the Wolves" is another great one if you want to hear Marko's vocals!
As a musician in his mid 30's, I have to say, when you start talking I just sit back and learn. Every reaction a new thing to take in and dwell on. Brilliant I might add. You might want to check their own rendition of Phantom of the Opera, Live at End of an Era. You won't regret it!
For Nightwish’s „middle“ singer, Annette Olzon, you will not find so many live performances of her on UA-cam, and often, the studio versions of the songs with her are better than the live versions. There are however 2 very special songs with her that she also pulls off very well live: - Slow Love Slow (look at the live version from Montreux). This is a very interesting song because it is very untypical for Nightwish because it is an excusrsion into Jazz. - Scaretale (there is a live version on the Nightwish channel on UA-cam). The music here is typical Nightwish, but Annette manages to sing this in a maniac voice which very well fits the song. I have seen some (unfortunately poor quality) videos of Floor signing this song, but with all ver versality, Floor can’t pull it off on this song.
I actually found plenty of live performances with Annette. I think the difference is if you’re interested or not. To be fair, but most of them are for concerts and not short clips, and a lot of the short clip so not the best quality. But, they are there and people can edit them and make the full concert into short clips if they want.
@@Rosannasfriend The major difference is if the clips are recorded for the DVD or not, is the concert was recorded by some local TV station or a dude with a phone then it sounds bad or is not properly balanced, the DVD versions were recorded with high quality equipment and then edited after by professional to obtain a good result. For Annette I prefer the studio or movie versions , the songs written for her voice and professional recorded are good.
@@Rosannasfriend I actually found a lot of videos from 2008 and 2012, but unfortunately, most where poor quality. What I actually meant was high quality videos that you can really enjoy watching. The best quality concert video I found so far was 2012 Montreux. Maybe there are more good videos, but they seem to be drowned in the many poorer quality ones.
Man what a beautiful choice you did today. This song is really special to me as it’s how I discovered nightwish. Enjoyed watching you do this one, thank you! The live version at wacken with floor has a nice surprise as a composer that you would simply appreciate and feel a renewed energy 😁
A gem that is underestimated from Tarja's time with the band is "Beauty OF the Beast" (careful, there's a Beauty and the Beast as well). It's a long track with many sections, like Ghost Love Score (the first NW you heard). There are many amazing songs with Tarja, but that one is really special. From Annette, to check a totally different sound from them you should listen to Slow Love Slow, it has a jazz vibe to it. Both studio versions.
Tarja/Nightwish songs are at best live. Just few song to hear "The Phanton of the Opera", "The Siren", "Ghost Love Score", "Sleeping Sun", "Walking in the Air", "Wishmaster" and "The Kinslayer". Most of the "End of an Era" live songs are really amazing!
@@Kvasaari Tarja's songs will be always better with her. She has the Gothic style and great dark operating vocals which we loved NW back in time. Don't try to persuade us,we certainly know the reason who love this band and support still today. Floor has her songs and she is in better condition because no one else have singing 🤣 those songs to compare.
Tarja is a classically trained lyrical soprano. I would like to see you react to Ghost love score, Phantom of the opera, Wishmaster and I wish I had an angel with her. Also to react to her solo career after Nightwish: Oasis live in Argentina 2012 and Supremacy (Muse cover) from Woodstock 2016. Stay safe.
I believe that it's because of Tuomas's compositions and the songs that he wrote for Tarja's big, beautiful voice, that Symphonic Metal has become what it is today! Obviously there were others, but I believe that these were leaders in the genre!
Tarja is singing with about 20% of her voice power in this song ;) Please react to the first Nightwish's DVD : "From Wishes to Eternity", their best live for me ever, and their first "gold album" and "Platinum" single. EDIT : I forgot to say that Tarja is a Soprano singer. Just listen to the albums : Ocean Born and Wishmaster
Angels fall first has always been my favorite for sure. Im not sure what it does to me but it has always been such a striking song, maybe it's because I grew up with it.
OK watching again. I fell in love with Tarja from this video. She is a amazing, kind, warm hearted generous person. Grateful for all the fans. She has since moved on to an amazing solo career. When you hear Supremacy cover by her, you'll really understand how powerful a soprano she is and how high she can sing. Those warm round notes and a beautiful chest voice. She can and has sung opera. She can do hard rocking metal. She can do pop as well, but it hardly uses her skill. I encourage listening to her early days. Then her solo work. Free of Nightwish's constraints and fee to use 100% creative control she is a queen and sings like a diva, but humble and kind. Done very well for herself and living the best life. Marko left due to hearing damage and not any drama. He and Tarja have resumed their friendship from childhood growing up in Finland in a small town. Nightwish to have moved on and experimented with differrent sounds. The only thing to say about Floor besides she really does have her role as drintwoman down, is she and Tarja were and still are friends from before Floor joined the band as a guest singer, and bedore signing on as a member proper. The one condition I know is she refused to sing Bye, Bye beautiful which was written after Yarja's departure and written about her. Obviouslly she won't do that to her friend. Annette Olzen ( 2nd singer) was singer when that penned and performed. I would hope everyone has put the past behind them. Fan bases should be free to love whom they love. Prefer that which they do. Without it including any negatives or personal attacks. Suffice it to say, no 2 singers sing exactly the same. Songs also written for different singers should sound different. For that matter as you grow as a person and an artist you won't sound the same over 20 years. One need not be better or worse to be liked more/less than the other.
this song released when I was 14 and I was sooooo in love with it and the whole album. this song changed my taste in music so much at that time and I am so thankful and I still love listening to it. Tarja-time was the best Nightwish-time in my opinion, she just hits different!
Sacrament of Wilderness is an excellent Nightwish song with Tarja Turunen, from a few albums before that one. Nemo comes from their fourth full-length!
This song was almost a "hit" when it came out, even my parents liked it despite being a "Metal" song. Check out Dir En Grey - Vinushka if you want to explore another side of prog metal :) Keep up the great work man!
This is from the once, iirc. Also poor Annette, the forgotten singer! I really liked her style. So different to Tarja. Floor can kind of do both styles and works well. Not their first album but I think it was the last one with Tarja. Check out the Tarja version of Over the Hills and Far Away. That is an awesome song.

We visit here to support and appreciate your contribution to symphonic metal music, not to judge.. 👍Every song ever written - listener interperts it accordind life situation and lived life....
This is from their fifth album, actually right in the middle at the moment. As another comment mentioned, the album version of this song has a longer outro that ties it up better. As you go earlier or later some of the albums have quite a different feel, it's very interesting. I know you have a lot of bands to get to, but Nightwish is one of my top favorites and the only band I've seen live so far, the Nightwish Army will always be here no matter what song you pick. Plenty of options whether you want to go heavy or ballad (I think the original comment you mentioned gave some ideas). Awwright!
This is really pretty much a pop ballad by old Nightwish standards. Understandable that it was one of their more popular ones. It feels kind of restrained to me for Tarja, I remember her being more operatic, but it's been a while. I don't think I've seen this video before! I basically got introduced to Nightwish right after Tarja left, so I will recommend again my favorite song of theirs "7 Days to the Wolves." I don't know that it was really a single or anything but it just stands out for me along with the entire album it's on really. "The Poet and the Pendulum" is another epic. For some real old ones I'd recommend "Stargazers" "Gethsemane" or "Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean" which are all on an album I think 6 years older than this song Nemo. The Once album that Nemo is from was kind of their breakthrough and is a really good album to be fair, and sort of generated this idea of Gothic Metal from what I understand, but they actually have several albums before this! "Ghost Love Score" which you did the live version of with Floor is actually from the same album as Nemo. I think I prefer "Wish I Had An Angel" off of that album to Nemo, but GLS was also a really good one. Lastly, I'd also throw in maybe "Wishmaster" as another old track and
Tarja is the first singer ♡, this song is from the last album with her, my fav songs are Fantasmic, Beauty of the beast, Crownless, Ever Dream...ohhh all the albums with Tarja hahaha the dark romantic era of Nightwish ♡
This is a short version of Nemo, just so you know 🙂 One of the few NW songs I think fits better with Tara's voice compared to the later vocalists. It feels like it was made just for her and her ethereal voice.
Marco stepping back is such a downer, but one has to focus on their mental health. He's put out so much work between Nightwish, Tarot, his involvement in a few other bands (Delain and Sinergy to name a couple). Had the pleasure of seeing him live a handful of times (I've seen them at least once per "era"), and meeting him once (where he looked at my bifurcated beard and told me I had a lot of growing to do lol, and got his book signed). I seriously hope he gets back into things in a few years when things are better, as the "joke" goes, "who's the best vocalist of Nightwish? Marco".
I like Tarja and Floor in the same way, maybe with a tendency towards Floor, but every time I get goosebumps when I hear Tarja! For me, Tarja will always be the Queen, and Floor Valkyrie! Love them!
Here are my recommendations for Nightwish & Tarja: There are 2 live concerts that they pubushed as DVDs and where you will find the pieces here on UA-cam. As these were shot for DVD, they are good quality. These are: From Wishes to Eternity (from 2000 before Marco joined the bend) End of an Era (from 2005, the last concert before Tarja got kicked out) My personal favorite video from the Tarja era is “Phantom of the Opera” from the End of an Era concert. While obviously it is not a Nightwish composition, their arrangement and performance is very powerful and most people’s reaction is “Yes! This is what Phantom of the Opera is supposed to really sound like.” Apart from that, you will find plenty of other excellent pieces from these 2 concerts.
This is the 'End of an Era' tour that was filmed in Hartwell arena, Finland. It was Tarja's final performance with the band before being dismissed (which she did not know until after the show). There are so many songs in this video that are miles different/better to their studio counterparts, so please review a few and see where Nightwish started (and for some, ended). ua-cam.com/video/5odBK6ebOf8/v-deo.html
Once is arguably their best album, so many epic tracks (Planet Hell, Nemo, Romanticide, Ghost Love Score, Siren). Check out Two For Tragedy, Wishmaster and Dead Boy's Poem.
You should really dig in to "End of An Era" live concert. It will be an huge experience to you. Tarja really kicks it. And the other story to this is, that it is her last concert with NW. She was fired just after the concert. All on stage knew this was coming - exept her.......
The first two albums are my favs by far "angels and oceanborn" One amazing song with the 2nd singer that will blow your mind in a composition sense is "song of myself" on imaginarium.
Nightwish Phantom of the Opera is where Tarja gets to shine. Another is Over The Hills And Far Away, the Gary Moore classic, that got them over the hump back in who knows when,
If you watch Nemo on "End of an Era" - Tarja's last performance with Nightwish - you will see the audience instantly recognising the opening keyboard melody and responding to it.
It's interesting how this song turned out in the album. Tarja's vocals are usually very classical, but for Nemo, she does more of a straighter-toned head voice with less vibrato. It fits the airy keys and strings very well. IMO it was an excellent choice!
Tarja is pretty awesome live too, her voice is unique and operatic but she's so damn good at it. I love how each singer brought something different to Nightwish... I really like her singing Wishmaster, Sleeping Sun, Kinslayer and Planet Hell! (From the End Of An Era concert!)
YES I was hoping you would do this track!! A classic early Nightwish song is Wishmaster, it was the first Nightwish song I ever heard and it got me hooked on the band! I also suggest Last Ride of the Day, a great song from Anette’s era.
Nightwish Army, Floor Battalion here. Preference for one of these amazing singers over the other is simply a matter of preference and is not an indication of one having mastery over the other, they are simply different wings of the same dragon. Same Army. That Tarja was the lead for Nightwish for so long is no fluke-her vocal dominance and beauty were the perfect fit for the band at the time, and her contributions are not to be excused or taken lightly. She is amazing, with her rich, smooth, silky tone like melted chocolate, like a Siren, lures you to that warm and inviting place in your mind. By contrast, Floor’s voice rings out, crisp and crystal clear, like an easy, cool bell on the breeze, only to catch you with a pop tone, a vocal fry or some other variation that is so versatile and masterful, the free and unfettered tones of an Angel Valkyrie Goddess of Metal... Nightwish is just a magical beast, given flight by two mystical creatures over time and space...I know much less about the third singer, but I know that she was no slouch either. We’re all just lucky to be in the present, in which Nightwish exists as well. Great video, my friend. I look forward to more. 🤘🤘
Tarja is 43 and Floor was 40 in February. Anette is 47. Floor and Tarja are friends. They do a duet with the song Oer the Hills. I started with Floor in 2018 with GLS
To get a glimpse of how amazing Nightwish was from the beginning, you can listen to their second album, Oceanborn, from 1998. ua-cam.com/video/pvacJYXBcBk/v-deo.html&ab_channel=Nightwish-Topic Also, an early official video from the same album, starring a young Tarja: ua-cam.com/video/G5dJeNay_XU/v-deo.html&ab_channel=Nightwish
Welcome back to the NW rabbit hole 😁. To give you some background to the songs you have already reacted to with Floor. GLS & Romanticide are Tarja era, Storytime is Annett, only Elan was written for Floor. So you have already heard all eras. For Tarja the best live performance is "Phantom of the Opera", for Annett do videos (Tarja & Floor nail her live). I would recommand "Bye bye beautiful", for Marko "High Hopes" and for Floor "Yours is an Empty Hope" live from Wembley (and the whole other songs from Gabriel). I will follow 😂
Hey. Really like your vids. Not massive into social media but definitely going to buy you some coffees after pay day. Ahhh Nemo!! This is actually from their 5th and last album with Tarja. It sounds less epic I guess as it was made for radio and helped propel them along with the Once album. Tarja does have an incredibly powerful voice. Very much sounds like they use something like a compressor limiter or something in the mix on her vocals in this. Interesting what you say about their progression based on songs you've listened too. Romanticide and Ghost Love Score are actually Tarja era songs and from this same Once album that Nemo is from. Storytime is from Imaginaerium and Annette middle era then Elan was modern. They've also pretty much always used live orchestra in their recordings. Used to be a Finnish orchestra then from Once was London Symphonic. Most will suggest Phantom for Tarja. Its amazing but also a rearrangement of someone else's work as is walking in the air and a few others. Brilli but not original. Tarja for me is brilliant recorded and live. Probably better live. Floor equally good. Annette not brilliant live. However, for her, her slow love slow and Scaretale are pretty good. For Tarja live definitely Wishmaster, Ghost love score. Watching that as you've seen Floor will be interesting to see differences\ progression or perhaps not? Creek Mary's Blood is very over looked. Dark Chest of wonders is a reaction fave. Earliest songs to react to would be Slaying the dreamer. Ever dream. Beauty and the Beast. Swanheart. Phantom and walking in air two favs of reactors for good reason. For Annette era storytime, song of myself, scaretale poet and pendulum. Amaranthe, Nemo and Elan to me are very much themade for radio feel from each three eras. Hope this gives some ideas 😃
Funny thing, I used to practice violin as a 6-year old and Tarja was taking singing lessons in the next room!
Oot sie kittteeltä
@@P0lkoli En oo vaikka siellä Tuomaksenkin tuntevia tuttuja asuu. Jostain syystä Tarja kävi tunneilla Kuopiossa!
That would be so amazing...I know everyone loves Floor but Tarja holds that place for me.
Bro dudeb
its not funny, its awsome
Please react to her "The Phantom of the Opera" version live with Nightwish. In this song you can't see her full potential because the song was made to be more commercial and easy to sale. You will also love Marco as "the phantom".
Yes! And "The Siren" is a must also, as well as "Sleeping Sun" and "Walking in the Air"!
You simply cannot top that song, Ever Dream is on same level but thats it. Nothing even compares to them on that "last live"
@@julle006 Snowman in Christmas morning with Tarja Walking in the Air...
definitely with Tarja as the singer
I second this! It's phenomenal
This is the Nightwish I fall in love many years ago. Composition and Tarja's voice are perfect.
I think "Sleeping Sun" is Tarja's best work. She really excels on it! It just fits her voice perfectly!
Oh yes. It's amazing 😍
Wow
148 03 Sorry, I cannot take you seriously when you can't even use punctuation.
Nightwish 'She is my sin' is one of the best old songs from them
Some of my favs for old Nightwish:
- Passion and the Opera
- Stargazers
- Wishmaster
- The Kinslayer
- End of All Hope
But there's nary a song that isn't really good. So you're gonna get a zillion suggestions for them lol
Saying the dreamer live
Wishmaster with Tarja! Hell yes!
I fucking love all songs from Wishmaster, Century Child and ofc Oceanborn. They are all amazing...
Passion and the Opera is insanely amazingly wonderful!! Tarja's skills in this song are just so incredible.
Tarja sings on 5 albums and a couple of EPs. Nemo is from the album once wich is her last one with Nightwish , it came out 2004.. their first album came out 1997..
her phantom of the opera (live) is really good too
Tarja Turunen was the original singer for their epic song Ghost Love Score.
The only good part in the original was that the choir was louder and more intense.
Tarja is the reason I started to love Nightwish. ❤️ After her it’s not the same. Amen 🙏
Phantom of the opera live is a must from her, also showcases Marko in equal measure
This is not from the early days, but from their last album with her, already 5 albums in. Ghost love score was from the same album
This was their first album of selling out just a little bit and going for more mainstream, which turned out to be a great choice, since this album really boosted up their popularity outside of Finland and Germany.
Finally... F I N A L L Y... Nightwish with Tarja !!!! ❤ Thank you Geebz ! ...what other tracks from her should you listen to ? ALL OF THEM ! Aloha !
Yes! Finally someone reacting to the RIGHT version!
Think its time for the Phantom of the Opera, you really get to see what Tarja and Marco the bassist can do.
Definitely. The full force of their vocals is amazing but you will enjoy the way that NW has arranged their version of this classic!
She did that 9 months before you posted this comment!
Finally Tarja.
Nightwish also did a cover of High Hopes originally Pink Floyd well worth a listen
Thanks for sharing. I'ma have to give this a listen now. Love me some pink floyd.
@@jdubya8762 let me know what you think
Wow, I've heard that, but I never knew it was originally Pink Floyd!
@@David-fj3kn soaring vocals are amazing. I always remember that as the grawwws was greener pink floyd song. This version sounded great. Added to playlist🤘 ua-cam.com/video/gWFqgw2T2HQ/v-deo.html
I'ts a bad cover, always was.. but whatever floats your boat
This was one of the first songs I heard from them.
Believe it or not I think it reached 14 on the charts here in Australia...how times have changed haha the good old days when you could still hear this kind of thing in the mainstream
Here in Germany it got to number 6 and the album even topped the charts. They really broke into the mainstream with it.
This was also my first song from Nightwish
Australian music is garbage these days and so is most mainstream stuff too.
@123horror You Europeans are more open minded and get into metal more.
For their second singer, Anette, check out "Scaretale". That song in particular showcases how different she is from Tarja and Floor.
Great recommendation! She is very underrated and didn't deserve even half the shit she got from the fans and the band when taking over after Tarja.
Tarja is for me "OV" - Original Valkyrie. She'll always have a special place in my Nightwish heart.
heya, geebz, i'm glad you got to hear her sing this son. i like her version better than even floor's, and that's saying somehting. the next tarja song you should hear is actually a cover. "phantom of the opera". oh, yeah. the best version, ever.
No one ever reacts to this song and it's so amazing ! You should try "end of all hope" by them also
Actually, Once is the 5th album of Nightwish...
OR
"Slow Love Slow" Montreux Jazz Festival 2012
Tarja does sing Nemo live in a more classical style though
@@toweri_li The cordial part was meant as a joke, probably didn't come across that way...
fun fact - in Russian metal community Nightwish was very popular with their first albums, while Once got really mixed reception.
Tarja's live versions of this song have a lot more character, because her accent tends to come through SUPER hard.
“Beauty of the Beast” is just sensational!
all three singers are excellent in their own styles.
I never got on board with post-Tarja Nightwish, I just love her vocals too much. For more Tarja Nightwish stuff I'd suggest "Phantom of the Opera", "End of All Hope", and "Dead to the World". Thanks as always!
Kinda wish you'd gone with the actual studio version or live version, this is a shorter cut and definitely missing the final climax in the end
Real talk. I was getting so built up for that epic finale and then boom. Ended like the Sopranos
And at least to me the outro is the best part of this song
He was even raving about the synths while it was off in the background... didn't get hear it take center stage. It hurts my soul.
Thank you
Some of my favorite Nightwish tracks with Tarja singing are "Gethsemane," "Know Why the Nightingale Sings," "Wishmaster," "Fantasmic" (if you're a Disney fan, you might love that one), and "Wish I Had An Angel."
Some of my favorite songs with Anette Olzon singing are "Scaretale," "Last Ride of the Day," "Storytime," "Amaranth," "I Want My Tears Back," and "Sahara."
New sub.
Some good Tarja era songs for you to check out would be
Stargazers
Wishmaster
Over the Hills and Far Away
10th Man Down
Sleeping Sun
Dead Boy's Poem
Planet Hell
I wish I had an Angel
Aaaaah, Tarja and her iconic red dress 🖤🖤🖤 This is one my favorite Nightwish songs, with Ocean Soul and Beauty of the Beast
This was my absolute favorite Nightwish song for years and I'm beyond thrilled that you covered it! And with Tarja too!
For Anette's songs, "Master Passion Creed" is a wild ride. "7 Days to the Wolves" is another great one if you want to hear Marko's vocals!
Try next nightwish - phantom of the opera (end of an era) Tarja & Marko duet 💖
As a musician in his mid 30's, I have to say, when you start talking I just sit back and learn. Every reaction a new thing to take in and dwell on. Brilliant I might add.
You might want to check their own rendition of Phantom of the Opera, Live at End of an Era. You won't regret it!
For Nightwish’s „middle“ singer, Annette Olzon, you will not find so many live performances of her on UA-cam, and often, the studio versions of the songs with her are better than the live versions. There are however 2 very special songs with her that she also pulls off very well live:
- Slow Love Slow (look at the live version from Montreux).
7 days to wolves is a really good one with Annette, too.
Oh bullshit, I’ve seen Floor sing it live on that first US tour. Neither Marko or Floor wants to sing that ridiculous circus nonsense
Man what a beautiful choice you did today. This song is really special to me as it’s how I discovered nightwish. Enjoyed watching you do this one, thank you! The live version at wacken with floor has a nice surprise as a composer that you would simply appreciate and feel a renewed energy 😁
My other favorites with Tarja are 'I Wish I had an Angel';'Planet Hell'; 'Over the Hills and Far Away' ;and 'White Night Fantasy'.
I love Tarja so much!!!
I agree! Beauty of the Beast is one of my favorite songs
Always up for more Finnish bands!
I feel Nightwish embodies the female front of the Finnish metal scene, where Amorphis embodies the male front.
I love Amorphis so much! I wish he'd listen to them!!
This was their first bottle of lightning. Their first song to really reach international ears and grab the attention of the masses.
Skip GLS and Sleeping Sun with Tarja. Floor's versions are so much better and refined. You're other suggestions are fine.
Please react to their live version of "Wishmaster" with Tarja from the End of an Era concert. :)
MASTER
The Siren by nightwish is a FAR superior song IMO, definitely worth checking out!
Wishmaster live with Tarja is one of my favorites and worth the listen
I still love the work of Anette Olzon with Nightwish. I recommend 'Amaranth' or "For the Heart I Once Had'
All Nightwish performances' with Tarja, are dope! The End of An Era is beautiful! ❤️
This is still one of my favorit Nightwish tracks. Gives me chills all these years later
This song was almost a "hit" when it came out, even my parents liked it despite being a "Metal" song.
Check out Dir En Grey - Vinushka if you want to explore another side of prog metal :)
Keep up the great work man!
Tarja is really AMAZING!!!!! Her voice, her image on stage... simply amazing

This is a short version of Nemo, just so you know 🙂
One of the few NW songs I think fits better with Tara's voice compared to the later vocalists. It feels like it was made just for her and her ethereal voice.
It also proves false the notion that Tarja can 'only' sing operatic style. It's a choice she makes.
Tarja is versatile and sings pop style quite often. I don’t find her to be all of her all the time as her detractors wants us to believe.
Totally agree - love Floor but “Nemo” will always be a Tarja song for me.
Love them!
Thank you for this reaction. Yes, You could do next Nightwish
performance of the Phantom of the Opera from Tarja´s era.
Stay safe.
Here are my recommendations for Nightwish & Tarja:
There are 2 live concerts that they pubushed as DVDs and where you will find the pieces here on UA-cam. As these were shot for DVD, they are good quality. These are:
From Wishes to Eternity (from 2000 before Marco joined the bend)
End of an Era (from 2005, the last concert before Tarja got kicked out)
My personal favorite video from the Tarja era is “Phantom of the Opera” from the End of an Era concert. While obviously it is not a Nightwish composition, their arrangement and performance is very powerful and most people’s reaction is “Yes! This is what Phantom of the Opera is supposed to really sound like.”
Apart from that, you will find plenty of other excellent pieces from these 2 concerts.
"I never listen to the singer in a lyrical way, always as an instrument first" perfect for all metal music.
Ever Dream with Tarja is wonderful, also Dead Boy's Poem!
Wishmaster, the phantom of the opera, the kinslayer, deep silent complete, slaying the dreamer
All good choices for Tarja
Tarja is pretty awesome live too, her voice is unique and operatic but she's so damn good at it. I love how each singer brought something different to Nightwish... I really like her singing Wishmaster, Sleeping Sun, Kinslayer and Planet Hell! (From the End Of An Era concert!)
She's my favorite vocalist, and that's my favorite Nightwish Era too! ❤️😍
Wow, thank you for that comment. I so dig went dedicated pure listeners such as yourself chime in with such passionate info - ALOHA T Rev!!
If you want to hear more Tarja, I think the Sleeping sun is like the best for her voice

Also, an early official video from the same album, starring a young Tarja:

For the middle singer i vote for By By Beautiful.. it's cool. Thanks!
This album got me hooked on nightwish, Annette and Floor are great but Tarja's voice is just special to me.
Oh awesome man, Nemo is my fav from nightwish and Tarja was the goat singer
Tarja is the best vocalist nightwish had they released the best songs with her the best combination of symohonic opera & melodic rock with power metal
