  • This is a GMC Envoy. Just like the Chevy Trailblazers. I said in the video they were like the Hummer H3 bit that’s not right. The Colorado’s are like the H3.

I'm sad to say, it looks like I'm going to be doing this to my Saab 9-7x (another GM rebadge) today. It blows my mind that you were able to do this entire transfer case and transmission removal with nearly no editing and were done in thirty minutes, that's amazing. I'll be doing mine laying on my back on the garage floor which will make it worse but I guarantee it's going to take me all day and possibly two. You obviously know your s#it! Well done and props to your camera operator. You both do a great job! Many thanks for doing this video.

Haha. Thanks the camera operator was my dad on this one. He taught me everything I know.
It looks a lot easier when it’s in the air. But you will be fine. Of course it will take longer on the ground. I’ve only pulled 2 out on the ground in my life. You will be fine. Take your time. Make sure you stay safe doing it.

    Very good video breakdown.
Few minor points worth adding for a DIYer.
-there are a couple connections plugged into the transfer case.
-on the cross member I think it’s better to attack the 4 horizontal bolts first bc if there is any type of rust in there it makes getting them out easier.
-on the transmission lines….over time the quick connectors corrode which makes removing the clips near impossible…..instead there are couplers for those lines under the hood adjacent to the air box assy which are much easier to access there.
-for the torque converter bolts use either a swivel or universal for a regular ratchet or use a low profile ratchet…..problem being there isn’t quite enough clearance for normal ratchets so as you turn the ratchet it causes a slight misalignment which can result in damaging the head of the torque converter bolt…..doing so repeatedly will likely round off the head…..if you do not have a swivel or low profile ratchet then just break the bolts loose with a ratchet then turn back them off the rest of the way with an open ended wrench.

On a '03 Chevy trailblazer the charcoal canister is square and sits behind the cross member. You need to move it to get the boltsout for the cross member. on the side of the canister facing the front of the vehicle. There are two clamps/clips- there are small slots where you can put a screwdriver and pop it open. Took me 2 days to figure that out. :-(

What would the trans R&R job cost if customer brought transmission on a 5.3 Envoy? You made that look easy & fast. On the lines, I bought the Lisle tool, it's about the size of a half dollar and knurled, it opens and slips on the line and pushes open the clip to pop the line out. I was handy with AN type fittings & SS braided line... I already bought new Delco steel lines but wonder if it's faster just running SS braided lines forward to a trans cooler?

    • @ltstransmissionhowto5158

    Question for you.
    2006 Envoy XL DENALI
About 1 month ago I was on the highway at about 70mph and was cut-off and had to slam on the brakes. The GMC started to make all sorts of clanking sounds after the incident. The torque converter was locked up when I had to jam on the brakes so I’m fairly certain my noise is in that area. The clanking is very audible at idle and while under power. When I decelerate the noise is absent. Does that sound like a Torque Converter issue? I at first was thinking it was my flex-plate but I would think I’d hear that clanking whether I was accelerating or decelerating.

I’m not real sure on a time. I put some in an Envoy with a 4.2 but I already had the transmission out. It was still a job with the transmission out. And I know the 5.3 has even less space. So it will be a good job.

Closer to the trailblazer. The converter bolts you need a crooked end wrench. That works best. Can’t really get a socket in there.

They’re just like a regular 4L60. Just a different filter and input shaft. If you’re comfortable building it they’re not bad. Just make sure the splines on the input shaft aren’t stripped or wore. I’ve seen several of these go bad there.

I have lifted it as far as i could... But the exhaust itself would raise with it also. Defeating the purpose.... But i have decided to leave that bracket out for right now and just installing the trans mount and crossmember bar so i can fill the transmission to make sure i have no leaks in the new cooler lines. And verify if the transmission is going to shift properly.. Had alot of black material and grey looking sludge in the transmission pan. The guy drove the car for at least an hour and a half with the line leaking.. When i had dropped the pan their was maybe only a quart of fluid in it
