@@johnfischer_2 lol I was thinking the same! My thoughts were why would you get a grilled cheese out of all the American diner foods BUT it's not as common of a food for them so I completely understand wanting to try the actual American version in a diner.

That was driving me nuts, watching the three of them eat it with a knife and fork. Then Denz picked it up and I was like, "You GO Denzie!"
Every diner is unique in their offerings, it seems and that's the wonder of eating in them. They all have the "usual," good burgers and shakes, and the cook can always get your eggs just how you like them, but then they have their own quirky dishes that are just so good!

@amyscrazybeautifullife3569 lol to be fair, a well-made grilled cheese can be spectacular... delicious perfectly toasted bread (not wonderbread), a perfect blend of cheeses in abundance, just the right amount of salted quality butter. It can knock your socks off and actually be worth the price.

The fact your family is just so natural and normal, you don’t put on any “façade” just makes this Channel so much better. Just a normal family filming as if the camera is their guest

They're great if you're a night owl like myself(I work 10pm-6am but I'm up late even on my nights off) and are hankering for something other than snacks. My take on New Zealand at that time was: I found it very provincial and reminded me of the 1950s. It was very comfortable and relaxed. Very provincial. That was my first exposure to a NZ cooked breakfast. There were no choices. Just a cooked breakfast.

As a long time New York diner and deli breakfast cook, the best breakfast potatoes I've ever had were at a place where we cubed the potatoes, then cooked them most of the way through with finely diced red and green bell peppers, onions, olive oil, salt, pepper and a LOT of Spanish paprika. Then once everything was pretty cooked we would mix them all together in a giant bowl to make sure every piece of potato was coated in all those amazing flavors and then put them in a large covered bin to marinate and soak in all that flavor overnight in the refrigerator. the next day we would just cook them to order on the flat top grill and they were out of this world amazing.

24 hour greek diners were a staple of my childhood/teen years. Historically each immigrant group in NY would usually specialize in a specific business/field and the Greeks were/are BIG in diners. they’re unfortunately beginning to go the way of the dinosaur post covid, but growing up after goin out really late at night after drinking with friends in the city a 24/7 diner was ALWAYS the move if not dollar pizza. I’m glad you all did your due diligence got the true experience. If you ever come back, you should try getting out to Queens and Brooklyn it has a lot more of the old school NY vibe relative to Manhattan and the food is some of the best in the city.

I've been drinking my coffee black since I was around 8 years old. I wanted to be more grown up, I suppose. At first I stopped putting sugar in it, than a month or so later I quit adding cream. (Not creamer, actual cream.) Never regretted it. I've since learned that there are "restaurant blends" of different brands of coffees that aren't available in stores. Far better than what we can get in grocery stores. My favorite coffee brands to drink at home are JFG and Maxwell House. But, whatever someone likes best is fine by me--I'm not a coffee snob. --Dan
