- I grew up listening to Harry Belafonte and his calypso reality and loved every minute of it. What a joy to revisit that music and attempt to bring a jazz influence into the mix. Here is Belafonte’s classic song with Gillian singing.
The band lineup for the concert was:
Peter Sprague - guitar
Beth Ross Buckley - flute
Tripp Sprague - sax and flute
Gillian Margot -vocals
Fred Benedetti - guitar
Gunnar Biggs - bass
Duncan Moore - drums

She sang with her sweet natural voice; no voice change; no screaming; just a lovely, mellow tone. Well done. A great tribute to Harry Belafonte. Love from Trinidad

Many thanks for taking this song for a spin!
The singer sings just like a singing bird express the feeling of so sad of leaving Jamaica. I am a Hong Konger just immigrated to London 3 months. I listen to this song Jamaica Farewell since from my Secondary school period. So I can sing this song.

Nice
Down the way
Where the nights are gay
And the sun shines daily on the mountaintop
I took a trip on a sailing ship
And when I reached Jamaica I made a stop
But I'm sad to say I'm on my way
Won't be back for many a day
My heart is down
My head is turning around
I had to leave a little girl in Kingston town
Down at the market you can hear
Ladies cry out while on their heads they bear
Ackee, rice, saltfish are nice
And the rum is fine any time of year
But I'm sad to say I'm on my way
Won't be back for many a day
My heart is down
My head is turning around
I had to leave a little girl in Kingston town
Sounds of laughter everywhere
And the dancing girls swing to and fro
I must declare my heart is there
Though I've been from Maine to Mexico
But I'm sad to say I'm on my way
Won't be back for many a day
My heart is down
My head is turning around
I had to leave a little girl in Kingston town
Down the way
Where the nights are gay
And the sun shines daily on the mountaintop
I took a trip on a sailing ship
And when I reached Jamaica I made a stop
But I'm sad to say I'm on my way
Won't be back for many a day
My heart is down
My head is turning around
I had to leave a little girl in Kingston town
Sad to say I'm on my way
Won't be back for many a day
My heart is down
My head is turning around
I had to leave a little girl in Kingston town
