    Great little setup. Is the GT Media V8 able to display constellation diagrams? I have seen some conflicting information. The product seems to be, or maybe not, a clone from a Satlink meter 6906

      Sadly not no constellation. For this I recommend the BATC Minitiouner and the Windows based Minitioune Software.

    Thanks for the information Justin; When I get a free afternoon I'll set up the one that Santa delivered! Initial use will be for monitoring GB3JV (naturally!) and to see how OQ100 turns up on it! I see you've put some Amateur ATV bands into the memories(?), good idea and GB3JV, of course! I daren't show it to G8MNY - I'll never get it back! 73 de Richard G8ITB

      HI Richard! Hey, that sounds cool, I took mine to Reigate Hill with the barefoot LNB and picked it up at ground level, (just) but the furthest report so far for GB3JV is Sheppey with a 60cm dish.

    Hi G8YTZ. 290-2350MHZ output frequencies are for Wideband LNG with LNB freq. 10410MHz. I have tested GTMedia V8 Finder2, newer version of V8 Finder meter. Unfortunately V8 Finder2 does not accept output freq. below 950MHz. as your V8 Finder meter does. I tested with LB freq. 10000MHz and TP freq. 10290-10949MHz and there is info 'Out of range'. Also LNB freq. 10410MHz is not available. There is 10000, 10450, but not 10410. Does your device support LNB freq. 10410MHz? Thanks for your video.

    • @G8YTZ
      @G8YTZ  Рік тому

      Thanks for that information. I suspect it’s tied up with the discontinuation of the ST chipset that’s been widely used in things like this, and of course the BATC Minitiouner. Of course, using an SDR with the Portsdown band viewer is a great alternative. The ADALM Pluto works very well with this and delivers a 50 MHz bandwidth.

    Here in Brazil, the terrestrial digital signal isdb-t is used. Is it possible to configure the V8 Finder to capture this signal and install terrestrial digital antennas with this satellite finder? It's amazing what human beings are capable of doing with knowledge. Congratulations!!👏👏👏👏👏

    • @G8YTZ
      @G8YTZ  3 роки тому

      I’m afraid not, this version is just for DVB-S/S2. I’m sure there will be other versions sold in your market for TV Antenna installers, but most TV sets will have a signal strength and signal quality indication that could be used for this purpose.

    Great tutorial, I wanna buy a sat finder which suppots unicable/SATCR LNB's, does this one do?

    • @G8YTZ
      @G8YTZ  3 роки тому

      No, in Unicable the frequencies are different, however you you have a suitable external mixer that you can use it would. Basically this box is a portable satellite receiver designed to receive DVBS/2 from 950-2150MHz, but I've found it tunes much lower than that and is useful on the 70cm amateur band.

  • @TheDennisfitch
    @TheDennisfitch 4 роки тому +1

    Have just bought one and having set it up for 437MHz, I noticed the displayed frequency is 11311MHz, which is the image frequency, if I set it to 1255MHz, it displays the correct frequency, so would this be because my particular version does not cover 70cm ?

    • @G8YTZ
      @G8YTZ  4 роки тому

      Hi Dennis, it sounds like you've not set the manual LNB Local Oscillator frequency correctly. I recommend setting to a round 10000 MHz. From what I can tell the image rejection is about 0db.The procedure is from 07:00 into the video.

    • @TheDennisfitch
      @TheDennisfitch 4 роки тому +1

      @@G8YTZ Thanks for the reply, all now working, I'd selected the wrong transponder when i originally did a scan, deleted the 11311MHz and all is well, now set up for 70, 23 and 13cm, incidentally i think the image rejection may be a little higher than 0dB, as having selected the correct one the signal is much stronger, thanks.

      @@TheDennisfitch Pleasure! It takes some sussing out at first, but interesting the £35 Revez sat receiver I bought has the same logic! I reckon the core software is the same on a lot of these boxes. @@TheDennisfitch HDS620, this one tunes down to 700MHz so can pick up the OSCAR 100 beacon with a standard LNB. If you don't need that then the Octagon SF8008 model is probably a better bet. In the UK this satellite is below Horizon so not receivable, so I don't know much about this one I'm afraid. The video is aimed at licensed Radio Amateurs (Hams) wanting to receive Terrestrial Amateur TV repeaters.
      The best guidance that I can give you is to first check that you have the latest and correct regional firmware on the box from the manufacturers support forum, as most satellites are pre-programmed into the box. Also, for manual programming (which is also possible using the guidelines in the video, noting the LNB type you have) there is a web site with all the details about this satellite here: www.lyngsat.com/Eutelsat-117-West-A-B.html. Best regards. Justin.

      Hi, amateurs are not yet using DVB-S2X, the trend right now it to use more DVB-T for the lower bands (6, 4m & 2m and even 70cm) as this offers better resilience to multi-path. The problem with DVB-T is that it requires a very linear amplifier due to the very large peak to average power ratio. Recently I've had some great results with DVB-T on 2m and 70cm @333k bandwidth. I also get great results accessing the GB3HV repeater (Farnham, Hants, from my home in Orpington 44 miles) with just 10 watts of DVB-S2 with a 6dB MER @ 2MS/s and 16.7dB MER @ 333kS/s. All using H.264 codec.
