    I just got one of these! They work really well! I have a portable setup now using a small shaw dish and a tripod and one of these handhelds. I was watching a football game while out camping on a rainy day.

      Sounds like a good portable setup. I just put out a video about going off-grid with free satellite TV. Thanks for watching!📡

    Great video. I picked one of these up this summer. Was getting frustrated with the low signal when I was sure I had the dish aimed properly. Will try the blind scan like you suggested next time. Had it working other times with no issue. I have a portable set up with a tripod and an old shaw dish and also have a 90 cm dish that I swap back and forth just to see what I can get. I can’t leave it setup as our townhouse condo corp has a rule about installing a dish. I am basically practicing setting up the dish and finding channels so I can take it camping to supplement OTA reception. The fun is in the hunt!

    I just got one of these last week. I recently bought an fta setup and dragging a TV and receiver out to where the dish is every time I want to try a different satellite was impracticable. Its well worth the money in time saved in my opinion.

    I like your push on connector idea too, typically though I leave a short coax jumper with a barrel on the end and only ever change the barrel that wears out.

    Hi For those that are going to use a motor ( seals) yes they work and work well the only drawback is the motor…runs the battery down quickly . The best way is unfortunately to drag out a tv and hard wired to wall plug satellite receiver . You can try running a hdmi cable from meeter to hardwired satellite receiver if video comes up.

    Hello NCH how are you doing today ....I have the same meter it was complicated at first but finally figured it out also I have a amiko mini 265 but I think I installed the wrong update because all my North American sats disappeared and a bunch of European sats popped up any suggestions thanks

      You might have to enter the NA satellites manually. That’s what I do on all my receivers. I think a lot of satellite receiver updates are really meant for Europe viewers. This meter is pretty decent for the price. Thanks for watching!

    Hey just got finished watching your video on the handheld sat finder device and wanted to know if you could receive FTA channels on this device.

    Hello NorthCoaster,
    Firstly, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude for your educational and enjoyable videos. Your contributions to the community are invaluable, and I appreciate the time and effort you put into creating such content.
    Now, onto my question: I recently watched your video on the V8 Finder by GT Media and am considering purchasing a meter to locate KU and C-band satellites. I have a specific scenario in mind and would love to know if the V8 Finder can meet my needs.
    Let's say my dish is aimed to receive signals from 97 West, but it's not perfectly aligned yet. Does the V8 Finder offer a spectrum display that can help me gauge whether I'm getting closer or further away from the satellite? I didn't see this feature demonstrated in your video, so I'm leaning towards the idea that it might not have it.
    If you could provide some insights or even a demonstration, it would be incredibly helpful.
    Thank you once again for your time, and I hope you have a fantastic weekend!

    • @NorthcoasterHobby

      I had a look back- I outline the spectrum display at 9:46 in the video.

    • @taganize
      @taganize Рік тому

      @@NorthcoasterHobby How the heck did I miss that? SORRY! I got to ask will the spectrum still work as your panning the skies slowly for satellites? Or do you have a video demonstrating how this feature is used outside to detect a satellite not yet connected to? I need a device that can do this to make life easier.

    • @NorthcoasterHobby
      @NorthcoasterHobby  Рік тому

      @@taganize No need for apologies. I personally prefer using a strong transponder on the satellite installation screen (with signal meter) to adjust a dish. Once that is locked, a blindscan usually brings in the other transponders.

    • @taganize
      @taganize Рік тому

      @@NorthcoasterHobby Thanks again for your response! I really appreciate your support! I am writing to express my interest in the spectrum analyzer you have presented, specifically its utility in assisting with satellite dish alignment. My experience with aligning a dish to locate, for example, the 97 West satellite was laborious and time-consuming, taking up two weekends of trial and error. Despite having a general understanding of the direction in which my dish needed to be pointed, I found myself scanning horizontally and vertically in the cold weather of January, with limited success and frozen fingers.
      My primary concern is to understand how effective the spectrum analyzer is in expediting this process. From what I gather, the device should display fluctuations in signal strength as one moves (pans) the dish in the vicinity of the targeted satellite. These fluctuations could serve as invaluable indicators, suggesting whether one is close to aligning with the satellite or needs to adjust the dish's elevation.
      I have seen online demonstrations where individuals were able to locate their desired satellites in a matter of minutes, specifically less than five minutes. Such efficiency is highly impressive and desirable. Therefore, I am keen to know if the spectrum analyzer you are offering can provide similar capabilities. Accurate and quick alignment is crucial, as even slight deviations in elevation can make a significant difference in signal reception.
      Once a viable signal is obtained, I understand that the subsequent steps, such as fine-tuning and scanning, become relatively straightforward. However, the initial alignment is often the most challenging part, and any tool that can simplify this process would be of great value.
      I look forward to your response and any additional information you can provide about the spectrum analyzer's capabilities in aiding satellite dish alignment.

    Can you tune in a satellite and see the video as well as "signal strength" and "quality" at the same time? I find that fine tuning a satellite with the ability to see the TV picture as well as signal strength and quality at the same time helps immensely.

    • @NorthcoasterHobby
      @NorthcoasterHobby  2 роки тому +1

      I just had a chance to look into this. Pressing the ‘Info’ button when you’re watching a TV channel on the meter brings up transponder information, as well as signal strength and quality, but it takes up most of the screen and you can only see the edges of the channel. There doesn’t seem to be any other way to make more of the channel visible and view this information. I also have a SatHero 400HD that allows you to see the channel with the signal strength and quality flanking the channel on the sides. Allows a clear view of the channel and the signal information.📡📡

    • @NorthcoasterHobby

      The 39' dish will work great for free satellite TV. DirecTV channels are all encrypted pay channels. You should pick up 99W with it no problem. if your dish is off even a fraction of an inch (a few mm) you will lose signal. Here is a video I made about 97 W a while back:

      I like this device, it does a pretty decent job however, the signal metre is not particularly accurate. It seems to read low, usually the signal level tops out in the low to mid 70s, even if the signal reads much stronger on my set top box receiver. It’s still does a decent job of aiming a satellite, though I am personally a big fan of the SatHero portable satellite metres- however, they seem to be harder to find these days.
