The management of Nirmala College, an autonomous institution in Muvattupuzha, Ernakulam district, overseen by the Syrian Catholic diocese of Kothamangalam, rejected a student demand for a separate prayer space on Monday. The college management reiterated its long-standing policy of not providing such a space on campus. In a communication, the management emphasized its commitment to secular values, brotherhood, and tolerance within its community of over 3,000 students. They expressed that the students should not have protested on campus for a separate prayer space and offered an apology on their behalf, noting that vested interests were attempting to exploit the situation.
