S.Janaki can never be replaced even after any number of decades. During this period many PSs, Chitras and Shreyas may come into picture. But our beloved ganakogile, Queen of versatility and melody will be the No.1 singer for ever in Kannada. I think Bharatha Rathna award and Padma awards are nothing infront of the great S.Janaki, the greatest singer of last century.

Just proves that u don't need 100s of instruments and 100s of places to shoot 100 scenes for one song.. What an excellent composition. Superb lyrics, stupendous music and what to say about the one and the only Janakiamma's rendition- those superb expressions, melody, modulation of the voice, etc., I am astounded. Budding singers need to listen to these type of songs.

One more thing is that the MDs who favoured PS in 60s replaced her with either VJ or P.Madhuri. But the MDs who favoured SJ in 60s, continued to give her their great tunes until she or they retired. This is the greatness of SJ. In kannada there are films in which SJ sang all the songs for GKV, R-N and ofcourse VB. In malayalam as well M.S.Baburaj and Salilda gave her all of their best tunes. Remember there was no IR as MD during this time.

S Janakiamma has made a tremendous contribution especially to Kannada playback singing. She has sung umpteen number of songs in Kannada. She reigned Kannada film music for more than 40 years(late 50s to early 90s). She is the best in singing film devotional songs in Kannada(Kannadigas will know it?). Her duets with SPB are unmatched. From G K Venkatesh to Rajan-Nagendra to Hamsalekha, this pair has rendered awesome songs!!!

Some people says that without Ilayaraja S.Janaki is nothing. But truth is different, in kannada she remained the number one singer from early 60s till mid 90s. She is the favourite of G.K.Venkatesh, Rajan Nagendra, M.Venkataraju till Hamsalekha.
Dat "some ppl" didnt see kannada movies.. so commented "something to their nose level only"...!!!
Thanks Anirudh for replying. I read in one of papers that G.Devarajan felt regret for not giving much opportunity to SJ in one of his interviews. G.Devarajan is considered to be one of great MDs in Malayalam. His compositions are treat to listen though we dont know the language. Most of his compositions are sung by KJY, PS, P.Madhuri, AMRaja etc. SJ has very few hits with Devarajan.

In tamil M.S.Viswanathan did partiality by making P.Susheela and L.R.Eswari to sing his compositions. In 70s he chose Vani Jayaram. But whatever he gave for SJ turned out to be chartbusters. I feel so sorry for MSV. Likewise G.Devarajan in malayalam whose favourites are PS in 60s and P.Madhuri in 70s. So as Vijayabhaskar in kannada whose favourites are PS in 60s and VJ in 70s to 80s. But he reserved some of best compositions for SJ. Interestingly SJ has more no. of great solos than other two.
