I haven’t touched alcohol in almost 5 years. Life changing is an understatement. Take back who you are, and learn how to process your emotions like an adult. Alcohol is a crutch, stop using it.

I like your podcasts. You have a very positive and logical approach towards matters. Every major religion like Islam and Christianity prohibit drinking, there's logic behind it, it is very harmful for liver, kidneys etc and also makes a person dependent on it. In a gathering of friends if someone is surprised that you don't drink it's fine, when you are on intermittent fasting you get same responses but we don't abandon our healthy routines for others.

One day I just lost my taste for it. Used to be into craft beers, I'd by a 12 pack of the latest Octoberfest brew. The case would sit around. 9 months later there's still like 8 bottles in it. I was like, OK I guess I'm just not into booze anymore. That was 7 years ago. That being said, there's nothing like an expertly mixed Margarita with gourmet Mexican food.

The key takeaways from Andrew Huberman's discussion on alcohol consumption and its effects include:
    1. **Social Pressure and Alcohol**: Huberman highlights the societal anomaly where not drinking alcohol often leads to assumptions or accusations of having a problem, emphasizing the undue social pressure surrounding alcohol consumption.
    2. **Moderation and Health Risks**: He suggests a moderate approach to alcohol, recommending a maximum of two drinks per week for adults, while also pointing out the heightened health risks associated with alcohol, particularly for women, such as increased risks of breast cancer and other cancers.
    3. **Perception of Drinking**: Huberman reflects on the cultural and social perceptions of drinking, noting the negative image of excessive drinking over time and the infantilization of chronic drinkers. He also touches on the misconception that being able to "hold one's liquor" is associated with masculinity, despite its adverse effects on health, such as reduced testosterone levels.
    4. **Alternatives to Drinking**: He advocates for finding joy and relaxation in activities other than drinking, suggesting that there are many fulfilling ways to socialize and enjoy oneself without alcohol. Huberman himself enjoys social events without the need to drink and encourages others to explore different forms of entertainment and relaxation.
    5. **Impact on Sleep and Health**: Huberman discusses the negative impact of alcohol on sleep quality, even after a single drink, and emphasizes the importance of good sleep for overall health.
    6. **Circadian Rhythms and Mental Health**: He stresses the importance of aligning with natural circadian rhythms for mental and physical health, advocating for exposure to morning sunlight and minimal exposure to artificial light at night. He links disrupted circadian rhythms, partly due to excessive screen time and poor lighting habits, to various mental health issues.
    7. **Public Response**: Huberman notes that his previous discussions on alcohol led many to feel validated in their desire to reduce or stop drinking, indicating a public readiness to reconsider the role of alcohol in their lives.
    8. **Health-Promoting Social Activities**: He observes a shift towards combining socializing with health-promoting activities, such as enjoying good food and outdoor activities, which can enhance social experiences without the need for alcohol.
    9. **Educational Approach**: Throughout, Huberman clarifies that his intention is not to crusade against alcohol but to provide information that allows individuals to make informed decisions about their alcohol consumption based on an understanding of its effects on health and well-being.

No one will ever convince me its not healthy for my heart and soul and stress to sit down with a cigar each night and one glass of scotch. Never going to happen. The benefits of that one hour of sitting there calm, enjoying it so much and relaxing. I can feel that any negative is outweighed. We come into contact with cancer causing agents all day long everywhere. No point stressing over it. WHen its your time its your time.

    • @MVRKOFFCL

If you're happy keep doing what you're doing. For others interested in optimum longevity, smoking cigars and drinking scotch daily is not part of the equation.
