I was absolutely rooting for Brazil, except of course when they played with Italy, and that match was one of the great joys of my life. My brother encouraged me to watch this game on the eve of the 1982 World Cup on TV although it was played a year earlier. Very first match I would ever watch and been stuck ever since especially after watching Brazil, France, Italy, Poland, England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Soviet Union, West Germany, Algeria, Cameroun and other teams. A lot of brilliant performances and memories too.
@Sam I know results can go against form sometimes, but against the Italians they were caught out by a badly disciplined defence brutally exposed by rossi. If they kept things a bit tighter they would have got the draw which was all that they needed. They had the wrong game plan.
RIP Ray Clemence. Great to see him here leading out England. 800 top flight appearances for Liverpool and Tottenham. over a thousand professional apperances. 61 caps for England and it would have been more if Shilton hadn't been around. I was lucky to see him play for Spurs about a dozen times in the eighties.

O gramado do antigo estádio de wembley parecia ser bem melhor do que o atual para se jogar futebol a bola realmente rolava quando era para ser rolada. Claro que a bola também não é igual a que se usa de certo tempo até os dias atuais. Parecia ser mais pesada. Essa foi a primeira vez que a seleção Brasileira venceu a seleção inglesa em território inglês. Acabando com um antigo tabu de nunca ter vencido a seleção inglesa que praticamente só jogava amistosos dentro da Inglaterra só em wembley.

Waldir Peres foi um otimo goleiro mais quando foi a copa de 82 ele não jogou 1% que era nos amistosos e eliminatórias.
Foi pouco acionado na copa de 82. Somente no jogo contra a Argentina é que pôde mostrar sua inequívoca categoria. Demais jogos foram como sempre nas copas, goleiros brasileiros pouco acionados. Contra a URSS realmente falhou e contra a Itália foi fatídico... Faltou sabedoria e sobrou auto confiança da equipe... Uma pena mas virou história!! A questão é que todos "achavam" que o Brasil seria campeão e da mesma forma que em 1950 com o Barbosa, alguns leigos encontraram um culpado. Legendário Waldir Peres Arruda RIP...
Waldir era melhor salvando chutes do que lidando com cruzamentos ou administrando sua defesa. Todos os cruzamentos da Inglaterra pareciam perigosos e ele teve sorte de não sofrer nenhum gol, especialmente aos 2:59 8:13 8:25
