I met Donna 2 weeks ago and told her how much I adored Passion. Even so many years later mentioning the role to her just made her grin. She LOVED her character, and still does.
What in the hell?! They barely gave her any time at all in her acceptance speech. She just won for probably one of the most remarkable and moving performances on broadway
I guess they though beauty and the beast won, and when it didn't, they just rushed her off. That is what I think why. That or they were running out of time and tried to get off before going to commercial.
Was so sorry I missed this performance on Broadway... I was there when it opened but the reviews were not great - so I gave it a miss... Donna Murphy was a very worthy winner
Brian Eduardo As with a lot of Sondheim's work, it was a bit ahead of it's time conceptually, and the subject was a little offbeat for some audiences. It really is a masterpiece, and took a genius to put it all together.
Without the makeup to play the aging and dying Fosca, Donna Murphy is a real beauty. That orchestra playing "There's no Business Like Show Business" is abominable.
Oy - I hate it when they try to cut them off with the orchestra cue! It's not like she was going on and on and on - and damnit, she just won the Tony for what was apparently one of THE great Broadway performances in a musical. Fosca is no mean feat to play credibly and subtly. Let her say her piece.
I found out that Patti LuPone was supposed to be the original Fosca but turned it down to star in the original West End production of Sunset Boulevard.

Same!

Another Tony Award winner who shows up on “The Gilded Age”, doing a great job as Mrs. Astor.
Saw this amazing musical on Broadway 🎭 and was so happy Donna Murphy won! They were so rude in cutting her off!
Best Fosca!

I agree... I loved it.. when i eventually saw it would make a great movie...
It was unforgettable and WAY ahead of its time, much like "Sunday in the Park with George" -- underappreciated at the time.

Autostade67 They did seem to come in earlier than necessary...she was outstanding in that role.
I guess they just wanted to get straight to the next performance.
hilarious. don't they know that musical actors are used to talking over an underscore.
And in high heels

2:07 oh my gosh, her thanking the orchestra was not a cue for y’all to start playing 🙄
