Its nice to see this sung in the original Latin. When I was a teenager, we sang this in our church during Lent. Maestro Dubois was truly Divinely inspired when he composed this great piece.

This made me cry ! When i was a young teen in the 70s i went to church one night to watch this concert ! My father was the conductor, my mother was the soprano and my uncle was the Tenor ! the church was vibrating ! I ll always remember that night ! My mother passed a few years ago ! My brother gave me the slideshow of all my mom s pictures since infant to her passing ! it s actually the last one i posted ! click on me and watch it ! it s with a song that most people know !
Many thanks for recording this: Listeners! This is Part I Check for Part II which offers an even more marvelous experience! Theodore Dubois may not have been a great composer, but at times a few works do attain that level! This is one of them.
St. Gertrude wanted a relic of the Holy Cross. Our Lord appeared to her and said that it would please him more than any relic that she should write down the last seven words that he spoke from the cross. She was invited to spread this message.. This performance perfectly captures that same spirit and is as valuable as any relic to be venerated in the spirit of the cross and the sacrifice of Our Lord Jesus Christ for our salvation.

Eh oui! M. Jacq,
C'est le Vendredi Saint dans les eglises du Quebec que j'ai decouvert enfant
cette version des Sept paroles du Christ. On ne l'interprete malheureusement
plus dans un contexte paraliturgique comme avant Vatican II.
Je me permets une comparaison avec la Passion selon saint Jean que l'on
juge trop theatrale a comparer a la Passion selon saint Matthieu du meme J.
S. Bach. Et pourtant, quel raccourci inspirant a mon sens.
Y a-t-il desormais une incompatibilite liturgique entre l'oeuvre de Th. Dubois
et le message des Jours saints?

+Onil J. Dionne il n'y a pas incompatibilité entre Dubois et les jours saints, il y a incompatibilité entre la grandeur/beauté/gloire et Vatican II
