French translation: To whoever reads these words: We have desecrated this island only to find death. Don't walk any further.
Ah you beat me to it hehe
thank you
Never thought I would find out what they where saying
It actually says, "Please adjust your screen settings to not blow out these words."
I took a year of French in high school and know some just from them being similar to English words so I got the gist of what was being said. I couldn't have given you a direct translation because I haven't actively studied it in 12 years. I know some Spanish, French, and American Sign Language.
Her 'strange disease' and getting better the closer she gets to the island, makes me think her family might be descended from mermaids or another type of sea creature
Well... You're not wrong... Lol
@@chaselonnergan5402Yeeeeeeeeessss. Not wrong. (Spoilers)
The game takes off from the novella "The Shadow over Innsmouth" by H.P. Lovecraft she's a descendent of Obed Marsh from the story and a Deep One.
In case anyone wants to know, Norah's voice actress is Cissy Jones, who stars in Life Is Strange, Firewatch, and Telltale's The Walking Dead.
Interesting... (What characters did she voice in the other games you mentioned... / I can just as easily read her IMDB page...)
@@Tazerboy_10 She played Chloe Price's mother (Joyce) in LiS and Duck's mom (freaking autocorrect refuses to allow me to write the character's name... Ffs) in The Walking Dead among other characters.
Katjaa. The name of Duck's mother is Katjaa (f*ck you autocorrect!)
@@Jedzelex She’s amazingly versatile! I especially loved Cissy as Chloe’s mom. Always felt sorry for Joyce.
💚🥺🥺💚
She was incredible in firewatch, so good i didn't even realise this was the same voice actress, she is quite the talented lady!
So I looked into this game after this video, because I hadn't heard anything about it either. It just came out on December 8th, but no one is talking about it. The reviews are universally positive, but none of the major gaming sites are giving it any attention (probably because they are all so busy sucking off CP2077). I'm a huge fan of games like this, Firewatch, and Edith Finch, so this is so exciting to me. Especially after the awful year we've all had, it's refreshing to see such a beautiful, uplifting game, it couldn't have come at a better time. I really hope everyone that watches this and enjoys it will consider buying it on Steam or Xbox, because the devs deserve it. I have no connection to them, and had never even heard of them before this, but we need smaller devs like this to get the support they deserve, because it's such a hard industry to survive in.
Yeah, I loved this game, too bad its not getting that much attention.
is this game similar to firewatch?
"Someone doesn't like outsiders on this island- OH WHAT A BEAUTIFUL FLOWER OFFERING!"
Finished watching Gab play American Arcadia. That led me here wanting to watch this play series. Keep up the great work!
Same
omg me too!!
Same here.
Yeess, me too!
@@the_king_of_fabulous4914was it as good as American Arcadia? I’m a bit underwhelmed 10 minutes into the game, maybe because the pacing is different
1:20:50 - So many easter eggs:
1. The news articles are about the stories The Shadow Over Innsmouth (the tiara), The Call of Cthulhu (cults & rituals by Legrasse), The Color Out of Space (missing Gardner family), and The Horror at Red Hook (Robert Suydam & wife)
2. C.D. Ward & Blake of Ward & Blake News Agency are both Lovecraft characters - Charles Dexter Ward and Robert Harris Blake. Interestingly the latter became involved with investigating the Starry Wisdom cult (or in this game The Starry Wisdom Society)
3. The magazine is either about the books that Lovecraft published in, or out about From Beyond
4. The vinyl record is also a Lovecraft story - The Music of Erich Zann, a tale of a curious person enraptured by a strange melody
It's such a delight to see something Lovecraftian that isn't dark and damp and gross. I love the colors and artstyle
Ain’t dark, damp, and gross part of what makes it lovecraftian
@@sluggerotoole1186 Indeed and I wish more people understood that
@@sluggerotoole1186 No. It doesn't. Something can be dark damp and gross withoud it being lovecraftian and something can be lovecraftian withoud being dark, damp and gross. Just like how the horror genre in games and films doesn't always have gore, and gore doesn't always equal horror. Like crying doesn't always mean sadness, and sadness doesn't always mean crying. There are things that go hand in hand often, but that does not make them exclusive to eachother.
@@amberanime well said I agree
@@amberanime an animal can be a dog without being a chihuahua but can't be a chihuahua without being a dog.
Lovecraft never had a monopoly on dark, damp and gross, but most of his stories ended up there. The other option is non-euclidean spaces with unimaginable colors, IIRC.
If you have counterexamples (written by him, of course), I'd love to read them.
So much Lovecraft. In case no one said it, Crawford Tillinghast is from the short story "From Beyond", in which he creates a machine that stimulates the pineal gland and allows one to see things outside the scope of "accepted reality". And the Starry Wisdom society/cult/sect are worshippers of the outer god Nyarlathotep (my favorite Lovecraft deity).
From what you said it sound like “From Beyond” is just someone on dmt, which is a hallucinogen (and you can see a lot of crazy things on it). There’s dmt stored in the pineal gland, so that’s what it sounds like to me.
@@dancesmokesmile344 yeah, it's like that... except the crazy things you see can see you, and kill you😄
Developers must REALLY love 'The Shadow Over Innsmouth'.
You had me at "AMAZING".
To new subscribers/fans, it's not everyday that Gab puts adjectives on the title of her videos (i.e. "Amazing, Terrifying, Awesome"), but when she does, you're in for a ride. Also watch out for her videos with "STRESSFUL" in the title, those are... something else.
as soon as you mentioned the voice actress I realized between her and you I was falling asleep, so I copied the address, opened it in a new tab, and then watched it there just to hear it while I napped, and then I woke up and came back to the original for the plot again
The colors in the game is gorgeous, I love the lighting change in different area with shade. This game is very immersive even for the viewer love the game so far! Love is even more that is an Lovecraftian game.
The colors of the water and animation of the waterfall in the beginning reminds me of "The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker". Am i the only one that thinks like that?... Is very shiny and dreamy c:
No, you're not the only one that sees the resemblance... (This game also reminds me of Witness, like Gab said throughout the video...)
Definitely
I cackled at “m’lady” after finding the fedora😂
The "old pal" comment got me. Old pal just means friend. They're married, they're friends. I call my gf bud
I don't call my husband "old pal" or bud, but I definitely call him my best friend! Friendship & romantic soulmate 🥰
@@merandalattanze3033 Man that's beautiful
Livin & lovin! Happy holidays and new year, friend :)
There is something delightfully 30s about 'old pal' though, you gotta admit
My boyfriend and I call each other "buddies" haha
I can't say for sure for all Polynesian languages, but when you come across the words it's usually a safe bet to say them similarly to if they were Japanese! The syllables are very alike in Maori at least. So Ponape would be Po-Nah-Peh
The French at 13:42 translates to "To anyone who reads these words: we have desecrated this island to find only death. Do not go further."
Wow, I saw it on epic games screenshots and didn’t seemed too lovecraftian game cause of you know, refreshing beaches and jungles. Still if it’s lovecraft+gab I must see it!
I really love how the mechanism for the symbol's thing kinda makes sense, an object with 5 holes is pushed out, they could have just made it work after pressing the button but they went the extra mile to give it some logic, I really loved this game. Found it pretty similar to the new Amnesia which was funny considering they must have had simultaneous development and thus no one copied eachother.
I really appreciate gab's ability to set boundaries with chat. Its important to have those skills
The journal aspect in this game really reminded me of your journal in the Uncharted games. Very satisfying to fill up and complete.
I love the art style of this game. The lighting and color looks gorgeous!!!
I see Lovecraft, I press like and watch.
Omg Gab reading french was so cute! It surprised me haha
This game is so cool! My theory for now is that her illness should transform her into a monster and she feels better near the island because that's where she can become this mer person. It's so mysterious I love it
Time ?
@@selmaabour8308 It's at 13:18 !
Ah! The Tillinghast device is a reference to From Beyond, which is both a short story, but also the *weirdest* Lovecraft movie adaptation ever, from Stuart Gordon. The same director who made Reanimator. That was a nice touch! I probably would've missed it weren't for the pineal gland mention
The last game I played on the unreal engine was vampyr and it’s super cool to see how different the style of this game is. It looks amazing and Im excited for a new lovecraft game!
Kostas Apostolou is a Greek name it's so fun hearing your pronunciation when you where reading his passport! 😂
The musical cue at 31:16 gave me strong John Williams vibes! Particularly from what he composed for the climax of Raiders of the Lost Ark when the Nazis open the Ark...
42:05 “Giddy as a schoolboy!” Now I’m getting Last Crusade vibes! The dev must really love Indiana Jones!
💚😃😃💚
Hai Gab :DD I’m a new fan.
I just finished one of the most iconic series’s and is moving to the less known but still entertaining ones! Keep up the good work! Omg this channel is beyond amazing and I’ve only first tuned in like a month ago or so . . . I wish you all the best from my apartment building 💖✨🥺🤚✨💖
I love how excited you get about a hatch.
Incredible! Very Alice-y vibes as well as the classic Lovecraftian strangeness!
I’m so glad you’re playing this one! I LOVE the aesthetic, the art and color really make me happy, even in some of the more somber points, just well done! I really appreciate you playing smaller games like this! Especially with a good story, lore, and beautiful visuals! I wish I was in one of those hammocks 🤣
Also, the struggle with cat hair is real, I feel like anytime there’s hair in my mouth it is ALWAYS a cat hair! 🙀
First I thought this gotta be full gameplay of *The Shore*
Would love that, the demo was amazing
This makes me think of the game firewatch and it makes me feel a lil nostalgic because I really loved Sean’s playthrough of it and it’s so pretty to look at.
The art direction in this game is fantastic.
Ima simple guy, I see Lovecraft games i click. I see gab playing them i click faster
You're a guy of taste
@@WraythSkitzofrenik why thank you
I am pretty sure one of the reason why those are called "Unu" is because the word itself is a palindrome (spelled the name forward and backwards) just like the faces she pointed out: they are the same from the front or behind.
Your gameplays bring me peace...thank you for doing what you love ❤️
even after 3 years I just love this game even though i slightly wish we had a shot at seeing what she looks like in her mer form, like you swim by a shattered mirror or something to hint more at what you possibly look like in the face
It's so crazy because the bright shade of the trees in the game was the shade of the trees in Vilcabamba Ecuador. It was gorgeous there!!
I love that i get recommended this on my Xbox Game Pass today, and then see Gab playing it!!!
That is so bright for a Lovecraftian game.
this game is packed with Lovecraft references! I love it.
coming back to this in 2023 after watching the american arciadia playthrough... 1:22:21 has the coolest easter egg!!!!
It may be just the similar time period, but the artwork reminds me so much of June's Journey :DDD
Omg!! I just played this whole game earlier this week. It was so good! I can't wait to watch Gabby play it
Yaaaaaay more Lovecraft content, thank you, Gab 🥰 I LOVE this so far and can’t wait for the next part! The art style is awesome.
I watched the whole stream and I fell in love for the game. Can't wait to see the rest of it!! Thank you so much
This is the second time you've started playing a game a few weeks after I started playing it ^-^
I never came around to watching this but after loving American Arcadia, I am intrigued if I will like this just as much. (:
41:03 "Look at this little fella"
Me watching in 2024 "HE'S JUST A LITTLE GUY"
Thank you for playing these type of games and sharing them with all of us watching ♥️ A calming reprieve from the crazy days. Sending much love!
Definitely would have enjoyed hearing the game's efforts to make enigmatic melodies on the Erich Zahn LP. It was a fairly creepy story, especially his disappearance into a black void 'portal' of screaming cosmic beings, from his apartment window. The Tales From Beyond is playing on the Weird Tales magazine and Lovecraft's From Beyond.
So glad you're playing this Gab! Just finished it and it was amazing. :)
Nice one, Gab :-)
The colour palette in this game reminds me a lot of 'Rime', which I highly recommend if you've not yet played it!
This game really stuck with me after i finished it a while back. Absolutely loved it, can't wait to watch this
Thank you @Gab
I bought and played in a single sitting! It can be simplistically tedious w/ the puzzles but the art, story and meaning are amazingly true. 💜
the art style and colors in this game is so beautiful!
Can't wait to see how this continues- love the art style! Hope BB is better x
This was so interesting to watch🙂 Looking forward to the second half of the game!
Gab: Clock!
Me: Clock in the rock!
I like this. Nice art style to mix with Lovecraft. The pages being blinding tho...
0:50 I started singing “unda da sea, darlin’ it’s betta down where it’s wetta unda da sea 🌊 “ crab 🦀
Thanks for streaming this I really enjoyed watching.
2:53 That timing xD
I’m so happy you’re playing this. This is great!
I love these Lovecraftian type games, I in fact just recently discovered your video on the last door.
The animation is so lovely! Big fan of Lovecraft, will have to check this out.
Your videos are always so fun and chill I love it ✨
Whatching Gab play something its like having your bestie around, trying out a game you played as i just do chores around the house.
Its kind of relaxing.
I loved playing this game and i cannot belive she played it YESS!
this seems like a realy cool game ^_^ looking forward to see more of this
This is SUCH a cool game. Cant wait for the next part!!
I’m like 7 minutes in and this “strange disease” and “going to weird island to search for questions from ancient dreams” is giving me BIG Shadows over Insmouth and Call of Cthulhu vibes
Edit: like an hour 20 in and I am feeling very insmouthy, loving all that’s happening to our poor protagonist 🥳
AWESOME! Can't wait for the second part.
That WTH moment at 1:40:29 got me laughing so hard I cried 😂
Loved this! Looking forward to the rest!
Oh my goodness! There's a German version of the lullaby she sang in another game, Rise of Nightmares for XBOX ONE
The full dutch song: Slaap kindje slaap, daar buiten loopt een schaap. Een schaap met witte voetjes die drinkt zijn melk zo zoetjes. Slaap kindje slaap, daar buiten loopt een schaap. Literal translation: Sleep little child sleep, out there walks a sheep. A sheep with white feet who drinks it's milk so sweet. Sleep little child sleep, out there walks a sheep. It's really old and doesn't make much sense but boy did it work wonders on me when my mom sang it to me. I translated with little child instead of child because the translation for child in dutch would be kind. However adding the ''je'' to kind means it's (the word ''kind'') made smaller. There is not a comparable way to say that in english so little child is closest to that as far as I can come up with.
Beautiful game and such an interesting story! Can't wait to see where this takes us!
What a beautiful game! Can't wait to see more
The game looks quite marvelous. I can't wait to see all the lore and what will happen to Norah.
GAB I LOVE YOU AND I WILL COME BACK AND WATCH THIS AFTER I PLAY IT OKAY? OKAY.
EDIT: I finished it, and I loved it. It's so great watching you do it now.
Man I can't wait for the rest of this game
Such a neat game! Can't wait to see more (or i could just go to twitch lol)
5:18 The only "CW" I can think of from the Cthulhu Mythos is Charles (Dexter) Ward. Interesting ...
Nice gameplay, Gab! Can't wait for the next one, hope you go "Deep" in it more... ;)
vibrancy from the word Go, very kool art direction/style
This game is one of (if not THE) best games of this type I played.... I finished it few times now and I am planing on playing it again.... game is phenomenal. Just play it...
i tried this game through gamepass and got stuck really early on, i'm glad you're playing it so i can get the full experience!
This game is so beautiful
I still need to go through your Soma playthrough, but this is awesome! The main character's voice is super pleasant to listen to, tho I do feel she sometimes may sound a little too amused by things that should probably be making her worry haha.
Also, random, but I do really like to hear you speak Dutch. I don't know a bit of the language but I think it makes it almost easier to appreciate the sound of it. It just sounds so flowy and... Airy? Light? Dunno how to describe it. But anyway it's also a pleasant sound to listen to haha.
Great channel so relaxing!
Love these lovecraftian games 🥰
That organ sound was perfection!
this is a really good game i can't wait to watch more
Hodgson might be a reference to a William Hope Hodgson who inspired Lovecraft and was an English seaman as well as one of the first cosmic horror authors.
I love watching your content!❤
Wow them using the emblem as a headstone for Roy's graves does feel incredibly disrespectful
