I’m a fishing outfitter and guide in Idaho. It’s been 100% of my income since 2013. It’s been a wild ride, but it took an incredible amount of work and sacrifice. Most people don’t understand that I rarely fish for “fun” and my job has more to do with website management, social media marketing, personal management, and customer service. This life is a ton of work and definitely isn’t for everyone.

If I was younger, man…. But honestly, I have been hunting since I was 12, and I am 62 now. My husband and I took up Bowhunting in 1982 and we’ve been in the woods ever since. Bowhunting deer in Wisconsin is our absolute passion. Teaching grandkids in it now too. Nothing sweeter than November Rut in Wisconsin. But I love the whole season. We were the husband/wife hunting team long before we saw the up and comers on tv or you tube. Nothing better than spending our lives bowhunting deer in Wisconsin with my very best friend and partner. We love your channel too. And enjoy when Jake heads back to Wisconsin during gun season. Here’s to continued success for you all in 2024!

I've also learned over the past few years that very few people who are in the hunting industry only have 1 job! So many folks I've met may be writers, videographers, etc., but they also have another job - related or unrelated to the hunting industry. I can think of realtors, contractors, fire fighters, biologists, engineers, ranchers, and many more. It's definitely the joy of doing something you love that makes it fun!
I do love that you guys are constantly improving your craft! You have a great following, but you haven't become complacent. Your authenticity and desire to create quality content is quite evident. Thank you for your hard work.

Great video and it explains a lot. Like why I get up at 3am to walk through the dark woods in the spring lol. It’s a big miss conception that people get paid to hunt. I will say you do what you love and if you love helping other people you will video your ups and downs and share them. You make your money the best way you know how, that could be repairing roofs when it comes down to it hunting is a love and if you’re willing to share it with someone else, they love you for it. I can remember when I was first telling people about THP and what they do and how they do it, they were just normal guys like us. They are still normal guys like us. They just have great skills at sucking us into the videos and holding us down while we watch them lol. Great thanks Arron for an understanding for those people that think you were just lucky and became a social media star over night. Love you guys keep up the great work

Aaron, I stumbled across THP this early spring as I was watching turkey hunting videos and getting wound up for Missouri spring season (hunt all day this year). I told a lot of my friends about your videos and channel. I said these guys are cool and I like how you’d “go after” turkeys (reminds me of how we hunted in early 80's at Mark Twain Lake) and rarely rarely use decoys (which you later addressed in a video). I thought you were from the east. I about fell out of my chair when you showed the video taking Cody out in youth season and you showed in the video you were from Paris MO. Then I really couldn’t believe it when you said you worked with Marvin, Beau and Garret at Bob's appliance. I've know those guys for years and have bought every single appliance from them. I had a profession in Mexico MO that had me out and about all the time and I quite often would stop right in the middle of Promenade street and ask Marvin how everyone was doing during whatever season was in. I was always amazed at how year in and year out they always harvested quality animals. Last time I saw Marvin was at Grafs and we were talking the best wads to use for clay birds. I'm gonna need new kitchen appliances soon and I see that Bob's appliance is no longer. Bummer.
Anyway super cool to know that about you. Keep up the good work.

15yrs ago a bunch of friends and I had a tv show and biggest thing we learned over 5-6yrs was truly to make a living in this industry was needing to have a “Real” job which was very flexible or have a product used in the industry that you produced. Using the tv show as advertising opportunity or not relying on the show to pay the bills. We got out just as UA-cam was becoming a thing so it’s a little different now. Then it was all about sponsors and getting them to pay the bills, editing and then filming quality footage which was super tough!!! When your beholden to a sponsor it can be tough too. They are like a boss so you have to run you show like a commercial which isn’t always the best thing. UA-cam makes choices a little easier as you can focus more on editing, hunting and do it on your time not on a tv stations time clock and schedule. We also had to pay the tv station thousands of dollars per episode and you had to provide so many episodes so pressure was insane!!! Luv the UA-cam medium as you can control your own fait better. For me turning my escape from the real world and making a job almost ruined hunting for me in the end so you have to be ever mindful of that aspect to and always keep it in the right lane and don’t lose the Luv for it!!!

Excellent video on an important topic that is relevant to most of us.
I already knew that most people who we see on TV and now on UA-cam don’t get paid one cent to just hunt. They provide a marketable skill or service that either a brand manufacturer pays them for or they get paid partially from views by advertising agencies etc… many people also have other jobs that they do but are able to work their schedule around hunting seasons like you mentioned.
I would love to figure out something so that I can get into the woods or on the lake or stream and follow my passions instead of being stuck away from my family at a soulless retail store 🏬

Great insight into the industry Aaron. We had a archery business for a shot time and I can tell you first hand, If you love to hunt........don't try getting a job in the hunting industry. Then hunting becomes WORK. You end up at the ATA and other trade shows pimping products like a used car salesman. Living out of a suitcase traveling from one show to the next. On the video production, The pressure to get the shot on video, the simple pressure of finding something worth getting on video will ruin your love of the sport. I am super lucky. I love to bowhunt and my job is a 7 days on and 7 days off job. I get 16 days a year of vacation. In November I only work about 6 days out of the entire month and then take week off in December which gives me 3 weeks straight of hunting in December. When it is all said and done I get to deer hunt about 60 days a year out of our 100 day season. 5 more years until retirement and then I will have the entire time to myself.

Good military experience and leadership is very desirable at almost all companies…you must’ve been reaching for positions that you were not qualified for or something else triggered the no response. 20 years in the Marines is almost a given 6 figure civilian job these days if you’re worth a damn

@@TimHollis3006 you would think so. The company that brought me in is mostly retired military, so they know the value. Most companies affiliated with the DOD Skillbridge program treat it like another job posting site looking for specific college degrees and years of experience in the field. For context I was looking for an internship in instructional design, building computer based educational programs, which I've spent years doing at the Marine Corps University.

Great points made in this video! It’s not easy at all! Videography is very challenging! High end cameras are not just hit record and point! Most have a steep learning curve! Editing software has a a big learning curve. Also editing videos is tedious, time consuming and can be boring. I’m a weekend warrior, if I go out fishing and the fish aren’t biting, no video. Same for hunting, if conditions are tough and no game animals show, no video! Nobody starts at the top especially in the outdoors industry! I’m sure THP didn’t generate thousands of dollars of revenue in its first month or year! So you have to be willing to put in a lot of work for little to no reward to build it up. Takes time! Often takes time away from a 9-5 job, away from family or friends events! Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither was THP or Whitetail Magazine or Mossy Oak and on and on!
Success in anything is built on the backbone of hard work. Without that most don’t achieve a high level of success. Again, you made a lot of really great points here! Keep on keeping on brother! 👍

Thank you, for being completely honest Aaron. Probably saved a couple thousand people from thinking they could be, Jo UA-cam Hunter. You did get the quality truth out there. It's why I respect You guys sight, one reason, many, why respect you site. Along with the Beast Site. Two of the very best outfits/sites there are. Hands down, in my opinion. Couple more I keep track of, but, not up to the quality or reality of both sites I mentioned. Keep putting out quality my friend, keep putting it out! Real, sells over everything else. I know you've learned that. Appreciate all you guys put out 😮😊🤔😉

Healthcare can be a good way to get out more. Many hospital positions are 3 12 hour shifts a week. That’s 4 days a week to go hunting year round. And if you volunteer for weekends that’s more days during the week to hunt while a lot of others are working.

I am an extremely passionate hunter and I have been so for as long as I remember.
I am 57 years old now and have hunted VERY much, both with bows and guns.
When I was in my mid 20s after leaving the military, I got offered a job as a hunting guide and I was totally sure that I had struck gold and got my dream job.
After two years as a hunting guide, I realized that the job was very far from what I thought it was.
Yes, I was able to be a lot outdoors and I loved that, and I sort of hunted, but I had very little time to really hunt myself, and I also had to deal with many frustrating clients and at times obnoxious clients.
And rather many were poor shots where they either missed their only chance to shoot their trophy animal and some even tried to blame me for that.
Or they wounded an animal that was not always the safest to track when wounded.
And the job was extremely poorly paid as well.
So I decided to stop being a hunting guide and get a proper education where I could get a good income that could make me able to take many weeks off every year to hunt all sorts of animals and afford the hunting as well.
That choice was for sure the right one for me.

I have my own landscaping business just so I can scout and hunt when I feel I need to. I don’t take very many mowing job because that takes the most time and get paid the least. I do bigger jobs that make much more but the trade off is, I work my butt off and do what I call two a days. Taken from football practice. I do two days of work in one day and that gives me extra time and extra money. Instead of filling my schedule up with routine lawn mows, I take jobs like doing “soft” or “hard” patio areas. Stuff like that. A two week job sets me up for two months of free time. So I work my butt off during summer and I have all the free time from duck/pheasant/deer/turkey in the fall all the way to spring turkey! If I still worked a day job I wouldn’t have the time or money.

Archery manufacturing and engineering positions don't give you more time to hunt...all it does is give you a burned out 50-70 hour a week job you are tied down to just like any other job outside of the hunting industry. Speaking from ample personal experience. Working in the industry doesn't mean you have time to enjoy more hunting. On the contrary, most hunting companies are super busy come Fall, launching new products & fulfilling big dealer orders, etc, and the only way they can do that is to have everyone working overtime overtime overtime. Self-employed content creation is about the only role I can think of that actually allows you to hunt more, because you are literally required to be in the field producing content to bring home the bacon, which is how THP is "paid to hunt".

Appreciate this and all your videos! I feel if you like hunting, set your life up to hunt. I'm a home inspector and set my own schedule. So I can take time off to turkey hunt and work is slow in fall during deer season. So I work when I want and hunt when I want. Guys like Dan Infalt work early mornings and hunt in the afternoon. Just find a way to make it work, without hurting your family.

    Good video Aaron.
I sent real tree bill jordan my resume when I was 23 years old. Never heard nothing. lol. I came from a farm of cuttin tobacco and hauling hay every summer and working cattle and just working for farmers here in Ky. From when I was 12 to when I was 23. Worked at welding shop for 5 years to. Now I’m a factory worker for 21 years. I weld SS pipe carbon pipe or steel structure. Been welding for years now.
I love hunting. But at 42 years old I figure I’d never hunt for a living. Just not practical. I make good money.
But at one time I wanted to get payed to hunt. Not joking. But more I think about it. Nah. I don’t. I’ve killed the world slam and I’ve killed a few good bucks.
I think the hidden truth bout guys that hunt for a living has either got a wife that makes dang good money and carries the INS Or inherited a bunch money and said hell with a normal job lol.
Ya never know somebody’s circumstances. Kuddos to people that do it. But that was years ago before social media.
Now you get paid to be on UA-cam. Idk how much and it’s irrelevant to me cause at this point I’m guessing I won’t find out. I just like to hunt and I kill stuff and I’m a factory worker with 401k. lol.

Affordable cameras put out garbage video back in the day. Their sound was bad too and you could hear the camera's motor, beeping sounds, clicking noises and so on. Back in the 80's we had VHS tapes before digital came in. They were big as a shoe box, cost a thousand bucks (back then!) and had their own level of terrible resolution, over exposure, poor low light video, etc.. Camera technology has been quite amazing and affordable over the last fifteen years or so. I remember not that long ago that 720p was considered HD. Now you have 4k and super slo frame rates up to 240 frames and beyond.
