#1 Gear: Most of us have cameras that are better than our skills. Most of us are not able to use the full potential of our cameras. As soon as I reach my camera's level I will upgrade my gear. The most difficult part in filmmaking is making films.
these are spot on, I think the biggest one people need to realize is COLLABORATE - competition is good, but winning together is even better.
Nicely said.
Good stuff, I'd also say, for most people, the difference between a $1k camera and a $10k camera can be minimal if you understand lighting.
And another thing that tends to get overlooked is audio. People will overlook average image quality if the audio is good. But give them poor audio and they wont watch your perfectly shot footage from your expensive red camera.
I love it, "gear doesn't matter" like money doesn't buy happiness... I've never seen an unhappy person on a jet ski. Gear matters! as you put it so well
Meal Deals vs Reel Deals. Love that haha. This video is facts!
That was one of my biggest take aways from last year!
@@bwashmedia This was a really USEFUL video. Thank you for sharing those points.
Right that was a Bar!
Just found your channel. You seem really genuine. Too many film makers on UA-cam try to play along with these lies because they sell and get clicks. Keep it up!
You’ve got a new subscriber! Hello from Munich/Germany. Awesome video! Will definitely the Monday business series.
Subscribed ! Thanks bro look forward to watching everything
Thank you for talking about the business section. This was the whole inspiration of my channel! Keep up the great content🤙🏼
So glad I found this channel. You are awesome!
I love this video. this really opens up the business side of film making for me. thanks!
You're so welcome!
I just got a bmpcc 6k and once I used it for the first time I truly realized that what people were saying about gear not mattering was total BS. I mean how can a iPhone or old canon rebel truly compete with something that has log or raw? It’s good to finally hear someone tell the truth. Great video
Easy creativity wins all the time, a film shot on an Arri with pro audio gear can be terrible.
This was actually really real info. A lot of it I fully agree like the importance of understanding the business side of filmmaking. That's something I'm trying to learn as our production company goes from part-time to full-time.
Great video bro. Really insightful
Thank you for sharing all of this knowledge!! We highly appreciate it 🙏🏻
Your channel has a huge future ahead
No, Thank You
What a great video!! Soo wise!! Thanks a lot Brandon! Greetings from Madrid!!
Love it! This was so much honesty...I appreciate it brother.
Your content is ridiculously in depth and valuable. Keep up the good work!! 👏🏽🔥
Brandon how in the world did I not connect with you and you're in Houston??!! Amazing information. Thanks for debunking alot of the lies being told that hold aspiring filmmakers from scaling and getting better.
Loved this video. Love the real honest talk.
I love this! Your content is amazing!
Top to bottom, this video was legit your best. Very well done and that information is on point.
Skill + Good Gear = Quality Results; Case in point: shooting in low ight with a cheap video camera will get you much more noise than a more expensive camera that features 14-15 stops of dynamic range.
Period 👊🏾
Invest in lighting first. Take low light out of the equation.
Not necessarily, but I see where you’re coming from.
@@nealhope8922 Right? A cheap camera with a good lighting setup will create a much better image than a super expensive camera with no lighting. Or at least open up a larger number of high quality images types to the videographer.
You hit the nail on the head with every point! Thanks for the knowledge!!
Way to keep it 100. I've saying it for the past 20+ years...gear does actually matter. My audio/recording background taught me that years ago. There's a reason why some gear is so incredibly expensive.
Exactly!
Dude, the meal deals and reel deals thing is amazing! You really are an amazing person! You have to know that!
This was most helpful.....Thanks a million......
Dang this was a dope video. Subscribed 🔥🔥
Thanks brother and thanks for the shout out on Clubhouse
Excellent Information!!! Thank you Brandon!
Super valuable information, appreciate it!
Hey man very helpful, thanks!
Amazing information. Spot on.
Man you continued to feed out the good knowledge! Filmmakers need to hear this.
Great overdub at the 11:57 mark! Lol. It was so seamless that I almost missed it. Love the videos.
Dude, I have this same video in my que to make. Especially the part about the "gear doesn't matter" After finally getting some higher end equipment for my professional work I have come to realize gear matters...like, matters a lot. Especially if you are getting paid for your work. Thanks for saying this.
No Problem!
@@bwashmedia sup🔥🔥
This was refreshing. Great content.
Great video, bro. I'm glad you made video for the audience to learn something about the industry.
Great video, love your content Brandon!
This is EXTREMELY Helpful! Wow, Thanks for Openning the Back Door and Letting us In
Thanks man! Big help!
The business side of film making is very important to create a sustainable career. Well said Brandon. Also, gear do matter when one focuses on developing the skills to leverage the gear. Keep up the awesome work Brandon!
Brave, contributing & committed - to the mass. Well done man! Best wishes for your successes.
Needed to hear this, great video!!
Brandon I totally appreciate your videos I’ve learned so much from. I’m an amateur videographer so thx you.
Depends on who you are asking. If it's an art-house director, story and creative direction matters most, gear can come second if not third or fourth. If it's the DP of a big budget studio film, gear matters. Some of my favorite movies were shot on bare minimum (Clerks, Tangerine) so to me it doesn't matter. Problem is is that people tend to get gear obsessed instead of focusing on the basics of story telling and film making.
I am a big fan of this video. Been at this a while already but it's always nice to hear well-thought inspiring words.
Another great video brother!
You're anointed Brother! Keep up the great work!!!
Wow , wonderful video, could you please make a video of your settings and how you shoot this kind of video? Awesome video tips !!
What room are you in. I have gotten great gems in the Videographers!!! Club. I do wish in could have you as a mentor. I have been following you for the past year. You have helped me tremendously.
Appreciate for sharing, I am just getting started and I agree with you that we need to learn more about the business side of things.
thank you for this!
Great content! Easy follow
Dude this was fire!!!!
ur videos are great! Cheers from Brazil
Crazy honest video the gear does matter really hit me. I can relate to it once you start getting better you need to upgrade pieces of gear to keep growing.
I love this video. Your hitting things spot on. This makes me excited to start!
Do you go over the business side of real estate in your class by the way??
Thanks so much for sharing! Impactful and super invaluable information that I can make practical use of everyday 👍🏽💯
Always love your content!
I appreciate that!
Nicely said my friend!
I rarely agree on literally everything in a video but man this is all so damn true! Especially the first point that gear does matter definitely resonates. I can honestly tell that the biggest jumps in quality and knowledge I made were when I committed on buying a mirrorless and later on a cinema camera. I once read an article that it is way more effective for you to grow into your gear than the other way around and I can wholeheartedly say that this has been 100% the case for me.
Don't get me wrong, learning and understanding the equipment you got definitely makes all the difference but it's way more difficult to learn about something you've probably already outgrown than to learn about something that is "above" your skill-level lol
Great video !
Great video bro! Everything is so on point here. ✌
Great Video! And so true . . .
Great video and point on.
I love this Brandon. I agree with all your points. Keep it up.

I think many people say gear doesn't matter because they don't want to discourage people who don't have a big budget to get started. Alot of gear is expensive and starting out many wont have the network to borrow or or don't know about renting equipment. Great video 👌🏽.
Thanks for helping me justify my past gear purchases (with which I made no films with.. yet) /s ;) 😃 Great video!
Love this vid so much I double smashed the Like button 😉
You are so right.!
Thanks
As someone trying to transition from hobby to jobby, this video was inspiring thank you, subbed
Very good points brother. I agree. Thanks for standing with me against the “gear doesn’t matter” myth. Although, I’ve seen people with more expensive gear that produce lower quality products, which means, like you said, it’s important to understand your gear. If you don’t, you could have the best gear in the world and still not produce quality content.
Well said!
Thanks for all the advice, actually just starting. I have a solid buisness backround, so lets see if i can make the Video and photo thing work. Yr so right about the cost and the tech coming so long way, its actually possible to start this busieness. Some years ago, i thought maybe Photography one day, but video seemed out of scope. Now the cost is reasonable, all the tutorials and practice for the last year etc. But hey, here we go.
Great advice💪🏽
Great thoughts for sure. I resonated the most with the first and last "lies"/tips. Gear definitely can make a difference in both usability and final image. I run with the GH5 on projects I have to be fast and nimble because getting the shot matters more at a lot of events than straight up image quality. Narrative and commercial projects I'm grabbing the FX9 because the raw image output and usability of the camera is suited to those jobs. If I was a bigger fish I'd be reaching for the Arri. And very true about charging. I'm working on a project now that I really low balled that has taken SOOO much time I'm probably making $2 an hour on it. I knew I should've billed more or walked on it, but I didn't, and now I'm paying the price. And definitely agree about collaborating. I've got a few go to guys that I call in when I need more people on set, and visa versa.
Per * pet * u* ated. Great job on your vids man.
Video quality of this looks nice man! 👍👍
Definitely! The gear doesn't matter really cracks me up!
Yea, your not walking out of Walmart with a chinese knock-off handy cam and go shoot live sets at the local rave or dance club. 1st beam or screemer lights goes off.... the hud is gonna look like a blizzard!!
But just in the same, buying a $50,000 camera and not even knowing how or where to import content for editing can be daunting too!
thanks for this tutorial amazing bro
Soooooo many big facts spoken here! 🙌🏾
Excellent!
Thank you so much, honest opinion

Agree on all fronts man, great video!
Appreciate it!
Great video
I love you Brandon ❤️ all of these is very true man.
this was great knowledge man... do you ever think about doing internship programs, I would love to collaborate with you in Dallas or any other city.
Amen Preach -Preacher! 🙌🏾Great Video! "Jump in & Get into It!"
I learned a lot from this video!
Spot onnn!
Great vid. Very basic. Fundamental points often missed
Well said!!!
Was just in your clubhouse group and I wanted to say ima big fan I would love to know how to get started doing gear videos
He speaks the truth, back in the day I was commissioned to do a safety film for a wind farm and I quoted £1500 because I was young, as the person in charge of producing the film was a friend he told me his bosses will expect a larger amount so we settled on £6000, lesson learned. Great video man.
If you have a project that pays the bills and looks really good on your reel, and it is a food product that you're filming, would that be a Real Meal Reel Meal Deal? 🤔
Haha 😆 😂
Awesome video
Thanks ! 👌🏿
Broooo the lighting in this vid is siiiiiick howwwww?
