    Thanks Gert. As one of those who recently asked you this question I now understand your frustration a bit better. To a beginner who is used to training for various other activities it seemed like there should be a formula for static training to maximize improvement before a trip to a water location. I think your high volume, low intensity suggestion is a good approach to doing what you can wherever you are. Getting more efficient in the water will have to wait till I hit the water, but for doing what I can beforehand on the breath part will put me a bit farther ahead. I appreciated your quick reply to my question and how you’re addressing it in your videos. Thank you. Best wishes.

      thank you Ted ! these kind of questions are very welcome and make me understand what people rerally wanna see on this channel. So thank you for that. In terms of dry training: nothing beats the water, but you can do apnea walks, static and stretching. Please watch my playlist on stretching for freediving. Also pay attenton to nose breathing when you're exercising, and i also have a vdeo on co2 training when swimming. cheers

    Thanks Gert. I am a 55 year old masters swimmer and a beginner freediver. I use dynamic apnea to help me train my 50 yard freestyle. Just a 25 sec breath hold but swimming as fast as possible and as streamlined as possible.
    I will try the first contraction mindset here to see if it works because I have been taking one breath these days

      hi Steve. theres many ways to train and do tables. what you're doing are sprints. that's a valid method. e. g. 8x25m sprints (or whatever the length of the pool is) with a certain number of breaths in between. all though I do not consider this as beginners level anymore. another is sweet 16: 16 laps with undefined rest and you try to make the total time as less then the training before. all of this is not for beginners. or you might do a couple of dives at 80% of your maximum with undefined rest. cheers 🙏 please also watch this video on Co2 while swimming : ua-cam.com/video/Pl7__qLFV08/v-deo.html

    Very good video, touching on a lot of topics. As a beginner it’s hard to know what information is reliable or not and who to listen to. Your point on anticipating contractions is an interesting psychological point.. it’s very plausible you start associating ‘pain’ with freediving which may do the opposite of relaxation beforehand.

    • @gertleroy
      @gertleroy  2 роки тому +1

      exactly. beginners seems to skip to learning phase and acquiring skills, and jump straight into training programs which are meant for more experienced divers.

    Hey Gert, hope you’re well. I have a question regarding breathe hold. I often do your 10x60 and beyond for relaxation and it helps with breathing skills in running (funnily enough!). I also do various other trainings specifically for freediving (the best thing in the world!) such as 4 min breathe hold, apnea walking ect. However, I took just under a month off breathe training and found now I can barley do your 10x45 and 3 min breathe holds ect, with a co2 build up occurring much quicker. Is this normal? How do I come back to where I was previously with breathing? Thanks

    • @gertleroy
      @gertleroy  2 роки тому

      hi Myles. there can be various reasons. a month is not long. allthough it might be true you just need to get back to your previous routines, it might also very well be there are other reasons. slowly give yourself time to come back to your previous breathholds. peace 🙏

    I do 10 x 1min20s with one exhale, one inhale in between. Sometimes 1min30s on my good days. It works on my co2 tolerance, on me at least.

    • @gertleroy

    8 dives to 20 meters is not a problem for intermidiate freediver I guess. The question is what 2 do at this depth? Dynamic swim along something or just hang on the rope relaxed for some time?

    • @gertleroy
      @gertleroy  2 роки тому +1

      it's advanced believe me. if rest interval is small enough. you don't do anything once you reach the bottom. you just turn and go back up. you will see that Co2 will accumulate that much you won't be able to even reach 20m anymore because of EQ problems. Everything is related.

    Seems to me you glided over the most critical point: does CO2 Table training actually work either by reducing negative physical or emotional reactions (i.e., increasing "tolerance")? Putting aside the relative importance of technique etc, does CO2 table training have value? It wasn't clear to me that you adequately addressed this. 🤷‍♂️😊

    • @gertleroy
      @gertleroy  2 роки тому

      hi Mark. I briefly touched upon this in the video. I think I asked something like "does Co2 tolerance actually exist?" it's a question that has been brought up many times in freediving groups and as far as I know there is no hard proof for this. at least not physical Co2 tolerance. Mentally that's another thing. But then again how you're gonna measure mental tolerance to CO2.. So basically we don't know. There's still a lot we have to learn in freediving, but we're getting there 🙏 Hope this is what you were referring to.

    Started freediving 3 months ago, so I‘m definitely beginner, but I can hold my breath up to 3:30min and never felt a contraction, at what time they usually start?

    • @gertleroy

    • @laurentyves9538

      So is your table helping with Co2 resistance and also O2 intake? I am hesitating about which style to use, with the aim of achieving a controlled relaxed 4-5 min static hold? Any thoughts? and thank you for replying so fast, very impressive@@gertleroy
