Triathlete here- cut my toe during a race yesterday and needed stitches. My biggest race of the year is in two weeks and I'm needing to get creative while the stitches are in this week so looking at aqua jogging for the run cross training. Thank you for the great info!

Thank you so much for this! I’ve got very important races coming up in less than 8 weeks and just got a nasty case of tibialis posterior tendinitis, and this is exactly the information that I need

How did it go? I have the same issue with the London Marathon 11 weeks away.

Don't want to nitpick and you've probably fixed it by now, but the belt is threaded through the floating device incorrectly and could be the reason it's coming up so far off your hips. The last part with the buckles should go over the floating device, not under. It will keep them on your hip

Aren't you overextending your knees? That could worsen any hamstring or calf issues that sidelined you out from running in the first place

If you have a hamstring or calf issue, you'll likely want to use a more up-and-down motion instead of the sweeping motion shown here. However, many people use aqua jogging to recover from things like stress fractures, and this technique creates more power for driving into the grown under you with more glute involvement needed to reduce overstriding and, thus, hamstring and calf issues.

I'm an injured triathlete and I only have access to a shallow pool that I touch the bottom. My foot injury only hurts when I run, and does not hurt when I run in the shallow water. My question is: will the shallow pool running help me maintain running fitness? Also, my calf were SUPER sore after the one 25 minute shallow pool running I did. Is that normal?

    • @teamfloridatrackclub3383

Hey Rae, sorry to hear about your injury. Shallow pool running is a great way to maintain fitness if that's your only option. Just be careful with the impact even though it's reduced. It's hard to say if it's ok or not with your current injury but lack of pain or discomfort seems like a good sign. Your calf soreness was likely due to the fact that you were running more on your toes and using your calves way more than normal running where your foot acts as a spring instead of pushing off. You might try running in the shallow end with some very light minimal shoes to further reduce the impact on your feet and lower legs. Also, doing slow pool walking before and after can be a great warm-up and is also therapeutic! Good luck and I hope you're back to running soon!
