I took a girl for a ride back then, and we celebrated our 61st wedding anniversary last year, Mine had the big buddy seat on it. Long live flat heads. Just plane cool to the max.
when I was 15 in 1962 I had an Indian Chout - Chief engine-Scout Frame - chromed leaf spring front end - I bought it off an older gent who said he used it as a dirt track racer - suicide clutch of course and 3 speed on the left/same side. I could slide my crotch forward to go to 2nd and 3rd. It hauled ass - so it seemed - all over Massachusetts and never a problem - always started easily. I was a kid and I was told it was a 47 and for $200 I was a happy rider.
I love it. Suicide shifter, with the throttle on the left side. I heard the throttle was designed that way to enable cops and soldiers to shoot and accelerate at the same time. Pretty cool. That hand shifter shifter though... beats me. ha ha ha -Peace from PA :DDD
Great bike! Excellent video footage and editing. Really nice job. Are those 19" wheels? I recently took the 16's off my UL and laced up 19" rims and installed big Avon tires, and the handling is 100% better. A rock solid and smoother ride at 70 mph and corners much tighter and faster, and without the footboard scraping noises.

back then, you could get indians pretty cheap around the boston area. we had four of them with two running at any given time. 1968 boston area...

Old myth. Indians had the left throttle from the very early years. There was no standard layout back then
