What a great song - as a Scotsman it still give's me a buzz after 30 plus years of listening to it. I'm surprised it has never been used in a Hollywood movie.
Abolute perfection from a band that taught a master-class on heartbreaking, beautiful meloncholy over the course of four brilliant albums. I've never stopped listening to this track, and all their music, ever. This is a band you really would love everyone to know about.....be into.. but on the other hand there is amongst us diehards, to keep it somewhat of a secret. That's it's our own party, and The Blue Nile is the house band.
@@Jonni1027 Thank you for your response. Like many fans, I have awaited a fifth album (I still proudly use that word) from Paul & the boys, but (sigh), nothing. I check periodically across the web to see if any band activity is popping up. And for me, I would love to see all 3 return. I have no idea what the state of their friendships are like (if they are friends). I know that Paul is considered the heart of the band... if not THE band. That's why I was so excited several years ago about his solo album. As far as I was concerned, it would have to be, in a way, the 5th BN album. Although it had some great moments, I wasn't entirely captivated by it, as I thought I would be. Nonetheless, he remains a truly brilliant and gifted artist. He knows our pain.
Aaron Segal Totally agree about Paul Buchanan, and even his solo songs that I’m not as thrilled with are still a 100 times better than most artists are capable of writing and singing. Just have to add that I recently discovered that several songs were added to the 2014 remastered version of the album Peace At Last. One of those songs is called There Was A Girl, and I can’t stop listening to it. Do you know it? I can’t understand why it wasn’t included on the original (perhaps it was only written more recently?).
@@Jonni1027 Hey thank you, and I had no idea there were unused tracks from Peace at Last (one of my faves), so I'm going to go listen right now. I'm quite excited, based on your review! BTW although many know TBN for their overall melancholy songs, Peace at Last has one of their best "upbeat" songs in Sentimental Man, a delightfully fun track.
Wow Jonni. My goodness. You just made my day, seriously. Just listened to There Was a Girl, and it's quite beautiful, and sounds right off the Peace at Last album (for some reason that album had an overall unique feel the 3 others don't have ... not better, just different). And there's 5 other tracks? I haven't closely looked but are the other 5 "new" as well? It is almost like having a new album.
@Roland cherry or on the first dance with my husband 37 years ago on the 18 th January at a disco. Best song ever and by god there are plenty brilliant songs out there. This has summed up my beautiful husband and I. Little did we know it would be our song.
Yep the bass is killing it in this song, such a strong melody and groove. The bassist's technique is also unique, I'd normally thumb that line, but he's striking the strings with his fingers to slap!!
I emailed jools, not to take the credit, but the gest of my message was bring back one of the best live performances of all time. a week later it came back. somebody had a heart
This is one of those hidden gems you forget all aboand then something jogs your memories and you just fall in love with it all over again, an amazing song and even better the first time I saw them play it live
I discovered this amazing band back in 1984 when i bought " A walk across the rooftops " on vinyl of course. I have loved them ever since. Masterful musicians and amazing songwriting stands tall throughout the decades. Great bands like this will always stick in our heads and hearts.
sincerely this song is such a masterpiece, its like the best of synth pop with the early 90s rock. i don't know why i just get to know this great song on 2019. i mean, this is good as the greatest hits from duran duran or depeche mode, why the radios don't respect this peace of art and play more often.
the biggest problem with paul and the blue nile is that theres never enough. i can appreciate the dearth of albums, but my god youtube needs 10x the number of live performances
I've watched this any number of times, but this time I paid closer attention to the parts instead of the whole. Good Lord, that bass line.....holy cow!
If this video was a property it would be Grade 1 listed to preserve it in all it's glory and perfection for all time. Thank you so much for allowing everyone to appreciate this exceptional performance.
Just so good. How were they not more revered? I remember seeing them in Georgetown in 1989, and Paul Buchanan was just so humble....almost embarrassed by the adulation of the 800 or so people there, all of whom were just spellbound and then effusive in appreciation. Magical.
When I saw them at the dominion theatre London , I remember paul saying he was nervous singing live , back came the reply Dont be nervous! It was just an amazing concert
One of my favourite ever songs. What a grooooooove. Such an underrated band. Used to watch this once a week. Was gutted when it disappeared. Thanks for reposting. They’re on fire! Sooooo tight.
I APOLOGIZE I HAVE IM NOW 53 YRS OLD FROM BALTIMORE MD COPPER COLORED MAN / BROWN MAN HAIR LIKE WOOL , THIS IS MY FAVORITE SONG ITS BEAUTIFUL A CLASSIC I REMEMBER THIS FROM THE 80'S STILL LOVE IT STILL GET THE SAME LOVING FEELING AS BEFORE ..ITS AMAZING
Always a guilty pleasure. I usually hate all the synth and string pop of the time, but Paul Buchanan's voice and writing are a rare mix of depression, melancholy, hopes, dreams, and sadness. Love it.
Must be the best live performance, I,ve ever heard!
Was at university in 1984, now aged 57 it still brings tears to my eyes .... magnificent, really
WOW ...YES I WAS JUST GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL AND CAME ACROSS BLUE NILE YES..BRINGS TEARS TO MY EYES ALSO
@@fiyahyisrael5117 thanks for sharing that … some music is timeless

A Masterpiece. Just improves with age.
What a song. What a band. Criminally underrated.
Blue Nile, the best band in the world that nobody has ever heard of. Fantastic
Preach brother
But let’s keep it like that eh!!!
Beyond doubt.
Word
37 years ago on January 18 th my now husband asked me to dance to this song and it has been treasured ever since. What an amazing live version.
My favorite song for about 37 years. Sooner or later something will knock it off, but not yet. This live version is incredible.
"Due north" is an other one
I very much doubt it Roger as this is a timeless classic from a timeless quality band❤
That is the very definition of a perfect bass line.
Paul Buchanan has such a haunting, memorable voice.
I always read the comments on blue nile videos, to feel i'm not alone in this world... :)
Fucking brilliant
Correct 👍🏴
Zé Tó Cocteau twins ?
If you like the Blue Nile ur never alone 👍
There are just a few of us who do listen to T B N; a marvelous performance; Paul's singing, great.Never Alone; as said,a few of....
This song is a gem that everyone needs to hear!
one of the greatest songs ever
What a great song - as a Scotsman it still give's me a buzz after 30 plus years of listening to it. I'm surprised it has never been used in a Hollywood movie.
It should be a Hollywood Movie
No question, one of the best songs ever written/ performed. This gent has a heartbreaking voice. Mr Buchanan’s solo work is also masterful/ beautiful.
Love the band, and the man. Walk across the rooftops could be the best album of all time

One of the most underrated bands ever, just never got the recognition they deserved
These men were complete perfectionists in their craft
A staggering performance of my favourite ever song.
Best live Performance EVER.
It Reeks of Perfection
What an absolutely brilliant live version of an already perfect track.
Just....... the best song from Scotland x
And that's how you make your hit song so much better, just by tweaking it for such a vibrant live version. What a gem 💜
Flawless, I had the good fortune to see them in concert,, a class act. 🏴
My favourite tune of all time.
Will surely stand the test of time when we're all gone.
Brendan O Brien mine to👌
Simply perfect. Never gets old. Loved it the first time I heard it, and love it even more all these years on. Do I love you? Yes I love you.
I listen to this song at least once a week. Just love it
That guitar solo is genuinely one of the most hard hitting i’ve ever heard, just resonates with me for some reason
How can 11 people give this stunning stunning performance a thumbs down? #shameful
Moronic philistines, probably like Cowell's manufactured auto-tuned drivel!!
I found them on Spotify last year and fell in love with the deep mesmerizing melodies. Listening over and over as my first album if the 2022.
Still remember first time I heard it... Loved it then and still sounds fresh great version from the sublime Blue Nile
It's hypnotic watching these guys perform.
Amazing version of an amazing song.
There is more talent on that stage than in every episode of the X Factory combined lol!!
Talent, or good taste? Both?
Such a fantastic track. Meant to be played very loud in your favourite car on your favourite road!
In your favourite moment of your favourite life
With your favourite person
Magical
Amen to that brother!!!

Just sublime. The Blue Nile are a gem of a band. So good.
At times like this I wish there was a 'love' button you could click on, rather than just 'like'.
For me as a drummer, the bass made this song. Love this song.
Yep the bass is killing it in this song, such a strong melody and groove. The bassist's technique is also unique, I'd normally thumb that line, but he's striking the strings with his fingers to slap!!
@@kiwibass6207 Yes, somewhere between tapping a slap, how awesome is that?! (And left-handed at that!) ^^'

Hope your doing OK

Hang in there brother…life happens…it gets better…I promise
Hope you are ok Sean.
Yeah but it's ok cause the other man probably doesn't know The Blue Nile. You win, mate! :-)
What a brilliant band... I wish they would get themselves together again...
Thank you for putting this back up. I watched this dozens of times only to have it disappear. Magnificent version of this song.
Same here, mate! ;)

It was a sad day when I couldn't find this video.
Glad that has been remedied.

I've watched this any number of times, but this time I paid closer attention to the parts instead of the whole. Good Lord, that bass line.....holy cow!
