Curtis 1209Motor Controller and Advanced DC motor test

Controller: Curtis 1209B-6402 48-72V 400A
Motor: Advanced DC A00-4009 36VDC Class H 2300RPM 4.15HP cont
Wiring:
S1 to A2 to controller A2
S2 to controller M-
A1 to Controller B+ to circuit breaker to battery + (note: huge spark when contacting could be hard on a contactor)
Controller B- to Battery -
Pin1 to 'ignition' key switch to Battery +
Pin 2 to 5k? potentiometer to pin 3.

Curtis told me never run a series or shunt wound motor without load when I got support for as 1204-001

Do you know if the connections would be the same for a shunt motor. I have a1 and a2 but instead of s1 and s2 mine says f1 and f2. I would greatly appreciate any help

Is the current draw increase linearly with the throttle, or, is it the same as no-load current?

Sorry for this question but how you can change de direction in this same test. Sorry for my ignorance but I like to know and I am a rookie in this field. Thanks a lot. I will aprreciate if you figure me how do it.

I'm not sure exactly how to change directions. I assume it's simply a matter of swapping the leads on one of the fields.

Connect A1 to S2 then S1 to (+) and A2 to (-)

I did this as you explained and it toasted the terminal

Just use 12v to test.
