Dude, one month ago I bought an L322, 2010, 5.0 V8. I got it from an auction house in USA. Now I'm doing the same thing you did - repairing it, one issue after another one (and there's still A LOT). Nice that we have people like you sharing what and how to fix things.
Damn, I've seen engine swaps that needed less work. Great work with the install and with showing people how labor intensive it is. Hopefully guys won't total their cars while trying to install this device. 😆
Looking forward to your verdict. Seriously considering a 09-12 L322 and if I do get one I will want to get CarPlay on it asap. The install looks relatively straightforward, doesn’t panic me too much! There’s a channel called Overlanding 4WD I watch and he’s had the Naviplus thing installed in his L322.
I just had an old blackberry music gateway dongle. I power it with a usb cable from car lighter charger and the sound is just plugged into the AUX. It works amazing!
I have a 2010 L322 and use a BOVEE1000 Bluetooth connector that uses the old iPod connector in the centre console. Cost about £100 on Amazon and works great.
A couple of years ago I installed the Naviplus system in my 2012 L322, which requires the same process of opening the screen to tap into the touch circuitry and LVDS feed. I must say yours is a much neater solution - mine had 3 external boxes (instead of your all-in-1 box) and the in-screen circuitry required protective tape everywhere to avoid short circuits when closing up the screen, rather than the neat standoffs you had. Aside from (maybe) the folded over ribbon cable yours looks extremely well implemented! :) Either way, it's well worth the hassle installing these things - love the integration.
Hi, great video showing that it's still quite a job to do, do the same company do anything similar for the L322 2006 - 2009 as from what I've seen there are units that do the earlier 2002 - 2005 and 2009 - 2012 but not for the model in between....???? Thanks
Thank you so much for uploading this video! It's been super helpful for me disconnecting the dodgy CD player in my L322 which was blowing its fuse and killing the whole infotainment system.
Great video Sam as always, and glad you are liking the unit. I fitted the same unit to my Discovery 4 a few weekends ago and it’s brilliant, brings the infotainment right up to date. I’m using an iPhone for Apple CarPlay and the wireless connection and steering wheel controls have been faultless so far, sound quality is also great with no issues 👍
I'm impressed. I'd propapbly manage to take all that stuff apart, but there's not way I'd manage to put it together again. I'd have a meltdown. Great video and looks like a fabulous result.
A few tips if you install this: (1) if your head unit goes totally dark after install, it's not fried - it just needs a reset/reboot. I did it by disconnecting the negative battery cable for a few minutes and reconnecting. (2) if you don't plug your CD changer back in when testing, the Range Rover logo will stay up on screen with the flashing light, and you won't be able to test the standard functions, and (3) if you don't put in the aux terminator plug (or wire the IDCORE directly to the aux jack,) you won't have audio -- even if everything else is connected. All of these issues drove me crazy during my install and aren't mentioned in the installation instructions! On the plus side, I got it working, and became quite an expert at removing, disassembling, reassembling, and installing the head unit into the car!
I hate pulling out trim, especially as you say, any damage is going to be noticeable. Looks like a good job done. If I wanted car play I might just slap in one of those external units, much easier.
I have managed to fit a Chromecast to my ‘11. Works on rear screens including headphones, also on the front screen and via speakers. Involved a lot of trial and error and wire chopping.
Good God man ! That is cool. I bought a blutooth dongle made by Invery. Plugs into the apple plug in the console. Streams very well. Maybe when i get my supercharger coupling job done i will do this. Cheers brother 👍
Like others have said, that is one darn technical update that I am surprised that you did not break any clips taking things off. Looks very frustrating to do yourself and a fortune to pay someone to do it.
deffo on me bucket list to fit ...but sadly need sort out me trans or gearbox first lol.. great vids Sam ..looking forward to Friday for review ...cheers
Seriously wouldn’t attempt that. I sold my Range Rover Vogue SE (2012) 4.4 TDV8 last summer but I still follow you mate. I was more than happy with my Bovee ViseeO Tune2air WMA1000. It was perfect for my needs and iPhone compatibility. All I wanted was wireless streaming from my phone for music etc.. This product looks great for the younger generation who want CarPlay or android but for me the bovee updated my RR sufficiently. It’s a cracking little thing actually. I will watch the follow up to see what you think.
Really interesting bit of kit. Obviously interesting to see how this works out. Even without this the last evolution of the L322 is a great machine in many ways.
Having been inspired by your review I took the plunge and have just finished installing it in my 2010 L320 RRS. The install was a bit easier in the L320 as it doesn’t require taking so much of the dash out. Great bit of kit and great content. Thanks, Sam!
Quick update regarding 1:48-2:05. I just got a L322 and have been looking to add carplay. Currently, there are full replacement screens that have all the standard / built-in screens like the 4x4 info. They don't look exactly the same, but the replacement unit does read and display the same info as the original one, on top of being able to show you carplay / android auto, and even run native apps. Basically, the only question is do you want to keep the dash looking stock or you want a bigger screen.
Nice job Sam. I installed the same kit on my D4. It’s a walk in the park compared to this thankfully! It’s still worth doing though and if I get my L322 I will definitely be adding this. Top work as always.
When you say D4, do you mean a Discovery 4 with the Denso style head unit - the orange and black rectangular graphics? I have that unit and was balking at how much work this was but if the D4 is far less I could be tempted to do it myself
@@logcabingaming3710 I posted that a long time ago! Had to re read thru….. lol Yes the discovery 4 is plug and play and very easy. There are different versions for the denso and the Bosch so make sure you choose the correct one. 🙂👍

I have one of these but don't have the nerve to fit it and after seeing your video even more so now wouldn't trust myself! Need someone like you to fit it for me😉 Great video by the way look forward to your L322 content.
Very nice Sam , mines a 2002 so no upgrade for me , my screen has a mind of its own , it comes on when it when it wants and off again , need to get round to finding out the problem
Been watching Your videos for a good while now and just subscribed. Very informative, relaxed and "down to earth" kind of way to fix Range Rovers. Very nice. As an owner of a Jaguar XJR and two 90's Maseratis I've always wanted a Range Rover...Nearly bought a Classic 3,9 couple of years ago but a L322 is what I am looking at the moment. There is a pretty good stock for sale, here in Finland and I am probably going to end up with one...as they are tremendous cars to cover the 7 months of darkness, cold, snow and slippy conditions.....Keep up the good work!
XJR and 90s Maseratis... that is a hell of a garage! Yes, can't think of many other cars I'd rather have over an L322 in the winter months. Remote diesel heater, heated screen, heated seats, happy days! Cheers for watching.
@@SamsMotors Just so. The summer months I can enjoy My Quattroporte IV , BiTurbo 222 and X308 XJR. But it is quite a different world when the Winter hits You. Almost not ending darkness and extreme cold! Last winter I was at my Lapland cottage in late November with my trusty Saab 9-5 and it was -37' celsius at mornings! So one needs a very reliable winter transport. A L322, well sorted, is what I need at the moment. With a diesel pre-heater and 4x4 capabilities. Automatic, air conditioned and keeping warm. And of course driving something unusual! You have given Me a good deal of extra information abaut these vehicles which is probably the reason You started this from the beginning?? Anyway. I will stay tuned! Cheers!
I have a 2012 Range Rover hse which is considered the 3rd generation. Looks identical to your Range Rover. Has same head unit. Whole vehicle looks identical. Do you think this will work for it? Only difference is I don’t have a dvd player.
Well done buddy ,I’m getting it done to my x5 where they are upgrading the system other places wanted to fit a floating screen but I would have lost most of my controls on the dash ,they are also putting new woofers under the front seats and a hd camera at the back Thanks 😊
Probably a bit late now but I would recommend putting a little loctite on the WiFi aerial threads...they like to come loose and fall off over time 🙈 big job that, hate to think what an audio tech would charge to do the fitting 🤷
Looking forward to the proper review. Many people on a Freelander 2 owners group I’m on favour an Xtrons unit as a replacement to the standard unit. My personal mobile, an iPhone, and my work phone, a Samsung, are both paired to my FL2 and works fine for hands free calling. Yes, can’t play Spotify wirelessly but find the aux cable works a treat. Bought an updated map cd for the sat nav and so now the car knows most new roads built since 2012. Have found though that with aux selected on the car unit, it will play the google map route instructions over the top of Spotify. Long story short, think I’ll stick with the aux socket, much cheaper 😂
I've been looking for an infotainment swap like these for my 2011 Discovery 4 and I wish I could bring this module to Latin America. I'm gonna research a little more. The Chinese ones are not for this Harman/Kardon stereo on my D4.
Great video. So tempted to try this on mine. Does the aux input still work as normal? And the mode button on the steering wheel for switching between audio sources?
Very impressive product it seems and a tremendous job installing it. I have a habit of following your advice on these things, but can’t muster up the nerve to do it myself. I have to find professionals in the states to do the work. Maybe someday I’ll get some nerve, eh!
Yet another great video. I have a 2012 L322 and was thinking of doing this but I have been waiting to see what is available as plug and play. This looks like a fair bit of work but worth doing. Looking forward to your conclusion.
When taking things out of your glove box you said a yellow tool was inportant to have if you were a L322 owner. I don't know what it is or does. Could you please explain it?
Nice information on installation stero upgraded video, may i do the same depending on head unit price lokks oem for me i like original equipment on somethings that doesn't stop functions from working, but they do make Bluetooth adapter that will work from your cell phone that what i did on my 07 land rover lr3 hse im sure a 10th of price you paid 😊
Hi Sam. Video loims great Im also thinking of doing this but have a single view screen. I purchased a dual view screen but not sure if i can first convert to dual screen and then orssr dual screen conversion. Do you know if i can pkug and play.
Hi Sam, great video. I am waiting to get another Range Range. this was one of the jobs I wanted to do. I am only down the road from you in Cork. I will let you know when I need you to fit my one....😜. Looking forward to what you think of the new installation. 🤔.
Great video Sam, need to stop watching, all these mods are getting expensive 😂 think this one will have to wait. Was looking at naviplus previously, await your 2nd video!! Just done oil service on mine and removed the plastic side sills for a clean and applying rust remover and then paint. Refit tomorrow when all dry 👍
@@SamsMotors do you have a dual view screen in yours, be good to see if you can watch TV while using carplay. Last year I had the rear arches out took care of any rust patches and then Lanoguard over the top and did underside of it too, but never got round to the sills. Luckily I did, rear section of sill had started to go, and a lot of mud fell out of the front section of the sill but pretty rust free at the front. Good to get on top of it👍
Yep, Dualview fitted and still works fine and at the same time as carplay/android auto. Think I'm going to order up some stuff to sort my sills and arches too before winter comes around again!
@@SamsMotors Very cool. Will see how things go. Always need a slush fund for a RR, and it's not that full atm!! I went with Aquasteel rust convertor and then once dried, Lanoguard over the top. Where I needed black I used Hammerite paint before Lanoguard. Also bought black exhaust paint for the rear back box to finish it off. Be interested to know which way you go :)
@@tristanboler2782 fair enough - as that your post about a starter motor I saw this morning? Just had a conversation with someone at Lanoguard, looks like they want to do a video 👌, happy days. Yeah I was thinking rub back, red oxide + paint but a rust converter might work also. Will do a bit of research!
I don't think that an integration kit like this would work with the P38's antiquated screen - but you could probably fit a complete replacement Android head unit in its place.
Was the placement of the unit on the floor an issue ever? Did it overheat at all? I live i south florida and I'm thinking about going this route but heat is a huge problem down here and I'd want to make certain that the ventilation is sufficient
Hasn’t been an issue yet, but I’d venture to say our weather in Ireland is significantly cooler than Florida. Even so I think it should be fine in that position.
Anything after the first facelift should have Bluetooth handsfree?, I just use the auxiliary for music... the satnav on my 2007 seems to be remarkable for its time, my map is now 12 years old though!
Hands free phone but not music. I wouldn't call the 2011 Sat Nav remarkable but it would do the job in a pinch. Not tried to update it but I expect there's a way!
Awesome video Sam.. I did look for bens comments on your Facebook but realised I’d been deleted 😂 I totally understand sir,.. looking forward to the part 2 review!.. puts my audio install to shame! Jim.
Sam, I have and am spoilt by the sound, DVD, internet equipment on my Audi Q7. That said I want to do similar to what you have done with my 2006 L322. For example a head unit that will also connect to the internet and I can use the head unit to connect to google maps, and receive emails, etc with a sim card in the unit which all comes with my 'Audi Connect' system. It also takes memory cards, USB and of course connect to my phone by blue tooth. does this system you have installed do this or is that a stretch too far. Does something like this come from your downer company. You may ask why I need google maps on the head unit as currently I have to use a tablet. Well the standard navigation is 2D and does not have satellite images. The reason I need the satellite imaging is because I am a hot air balloonist and retriever. As such with google maps it allows me to see obscure farm tracks and off road tracks around farms and forest roads to get to the balloon once it's landed. I also want the DVD player as the 2006 only has a CD player the 6CD changer and all my music is now on DVD's and the balance is on 32GB SD card. SO.......... Sam or Sam's followers if you and give me some ideas I'd be most grateful. And yes, I've used my Q7 to retrieve the balloon with the balloon trailer down country green lanes and farm tracks and at £280 a tyre per side wall puncture and massive scratches I've stopped using it and am happy to scratch the hell out of a L322 with no worries.
Not sure if you monitor comments given age of this video but…do you recall at time 18:14 if you had to reconnect CD player to test? My screen didn’t come back on during test…damn those ribbons are a pain!
Hi, I can't remember, although looking at the video it looks like the harness is connected. Give that a try - it may be that the CANbus loop isn't complete and therefore the head unit won't work correctly.
@ thank you for the response. I did get audio once I plugged in CD player but still no LCD display. I'll probably return to original ribbon cables and ensure I didn't bork anything in LCD and if that still works I'll try again. There's an awful lot of insured connectors on the new part that feel unuaed so hoping this works. If so I'll probably try routing the speaker phone and then probably open up console and pull the aux inside and terminate internally (have special needs kids that will not leave that plugged in!).
3rd time putting it together worked. Then I had to watch the end of your video to learn the AUX INPUT setting...bugs me they don't document. So then I got greedy and tried the car phone mode, but it was super echo'g. Will do some research on that. But between your video and their support video, it answers all questions. In retrospect it wasn't bad...but it was definitely a good 4 hour install...for me, 8 :)
ended up removing gear shifter and everything and realized I didn't need to. The vent screen in rear seats pops off, then you can disconnect that AUX port by pulling the plug to it (was green on mine) and popping the vent back on. Yay, no Aux terminator needed...now where did those dash screws go...sigh
Installation is very similar - this looks a little more polished, with better made connectors and standoffs to mount the board, rather than tape used on the NaviPlus. The end result looks basically the same though and works in the same way, as far as I can see from Sams video!
I’m curious if this works with US-spec L322’s. I haven’t found anything yet on their website to tell one way or another. Anyone else find anything on that?
To get the android navigation would be great. As for music, a simple bluetooth FM music player plugged into the charging lighter plug works fantastic and they come now with USB chargers, so it is nice as you can charge your phone as well.
I think with the early models the best bet is a complete Android based head unit replacement like I mentioned at the start of the video, as the original screen is even lower resolution/quality than what I have here in my 2011.
All that integration and to get the audio into the headunit you have to plug that thing into the aux port? I'm sure there is a reason but seems odd. That would annoy me having that sticking out keeping the cover open
It is a bit annoying, you can fit the connector internally if you wanted to clean it up, but you'd sacrifice the use of the AUX port. This way keeps everything easily revertable to standard functionality!
It’s the fuel filler reset tool. If you try to put the wrong nozzle into your L322 (so a petrol nozzle into my diesel car), a flap will deploy inside the filler neck and prevent you from misfuelling. The yellow tool I was referring to is the tool you need to reset the flap so you can fill up normally. 👍👍

Great job sir! Is there anyway to connect this with a subwoofer upgrade?
Sure is, check my later videos, I've done a subwoofer build recently.
New L322 owner here (2007 4.2 V8 Supercharged petrol) will this head unit not work on the 2007? Great video +1 subscriber.
Hey, thanks for the sub! I don’t think it will unfortunately, but it would be worth checking UAD’s website for any other options.
I hope this product is better than NavTool. Customer feedback for that company is not very good 😬 (2005 LR3 owner here)
Yet another great video.
Does anyone know of anything like this for the 2006 model? Or any sort of upgrade for the multi media?
Hi Sam, great video. I am waiting to get another Range Range. this was one of the jobs I wanted to do. I am only down the road from you in Cork. I will let you know when I need you to fit my one....😜. Looking forward to what you think of the new installation. 🤔.
Well done, Sam!
Cheers Tristan! Yeah it's a big old chunk of change this one.
That's a job I definitely need to do too - good effort!
Have you looked into a unit for the p38? In the cubby on the upper dash, some models had a sat nav in that spot
I don't think that an integration kit like this would work with the P38's antiquated screen - but you could probably fit a complete replacement Android head unit in its place.
hi
how much does this thing cost?
Anything like that work for a 2006 L322 HSE?
Wow, great video. Hopefully, there's a version that works with the 10-15MY Jaguar XK since the factory head units should be similar.
Did you find a solution for your XK?
@@carlickio Not as of now. Tempted to just do a "start from scratch" re-wire. Can't believe how over engineered an "infotainment system" had to be.
@@carlickio not yet? I'm slowly working on it.
most people would not attempt fitting that, and to get it done by a Garage will cost a fortune.
@@SamsMotors great how its linked to fuel/steering angle, let me down today with outdated map though. Mersey gateway is nowhere to be seen
Hi Sam I bought deferent from eBay and I installed .it is no sond can you help me please to fix it? Thanks
Awesome video Sam.. I did look for bens comments on your Facebook but realised I’d been deleted 😂 I totally understand sir,.. looking forward to the part 2 review!.. puts my audio install to shame! Jim.
Looks good Sam, looking forward to review 👍👍
What an awesome channel!
Hi Sam would this head unit fit in a 2004 vogue ? Thankyou in advance
How about a unit for the 2004 l322?
579.99 for this and you need to do it all your self i think ill just use my usb to listen to music think its crazy expensive
Or buy it and pay 4 times more for all the installation labor. Is a great unit in my opinion.
You buy this for Car Play or Android Auto, not just for playing music.
Got a 405 with everything now
Just curious dose the car play system Still allow the backup camera to work?
Yeah it does, the screen automatically flips back to the reverse cam when you put it into R.
@@SamsMotors sweet thanks this unit fits the 2013 model too right?
@@SamsMotors does the system uses the original microphone or a new one from the unique is needed?
Hi Sam would work for a 05 Range Rover L322 in if so how much for this kit
Great job! Thanks for the video!
Great Video Sam, curious if this could be fitted to the US version of the L322.
How is the image quality? Sharp or washed out?
Really want to find a head unit for my 2003 4.4 V8
Anything out there for the 2005/2006 Mk2 L322 (the BMW 4.4 V8) ??
Great mod, Sam - would be interesting to do a comparison with the Naviplus system (installation, functionality etc).
I tried to get them to send me one - no luck unfortunately!
I can't see that it would be any different - the steering wheel being on the wrong side shouldn't affect anything 😜
Does it work with the dual view screen ?
Well done, I would have had had to paid someone to do that !
What is the actual link to this exact one
Hi Sam as usual great videos. One question do you know if it fits a Range Rover Sport 2011
Hi Ed - thanks
Yes they do, check their website at unique-ad.co.uk
To get the android navigation would be great. As for music, a simple bluetooth FM music player plugged into the charging lighter plug works fantastic and they come now with USB chargers, so it is nice as you can charge your phone as well.
Does it work with the 2004 version of l322 ? Than k you
I have a 2004 model would this work or is there an alternative?
I think with the early models the best bet is a complete Android based head unit replacement like I mentioned at the start of the video, as the original screen is even lower resolution/quality than what I have here in my 2011.
Hi! What's the music at the end?
I don't recall if you mentioned it in the video..but what was the approximate total time to install?
Probably about 3-4hrs in total if I wasn't filming. I reckon I could do it a bit quicker the 2nd time around.
Top choice on the podcasts 🤣
Was hoping someone would notice them 😜
Are you going to do similar with your P38 range rover?
Probably not. I like the retro look of the dash in the P38. We might look at doing a "stealth" Bluetooth music installation though!
Sam have you updated the sat nav (can it be updated)
All that integration and to get the audio into the headunit you have to plug that thing into the aux port? I'm sure there is a reason but seems odd. That would annoy me having that sticking out keeping the cover open
It is a bit annoying, you can fit the connector internally if you wanted to clean it up, but you'd sacrifice the use of the AUX port. This way keeps everything easily revertable to standard functionality!
What's the item in the glove box that is important to carry around if uou are an L322 owner?
The all important Gap IID tool!
I used invery - plug and play to use Bluetooth to play all my music - about £60
Will this work on the Disco's or is there a similar one?
Yeah various kits available on their website (link in the description).
Anyone know what that yellow tool Sam's referring to at 7:15 is? As a new L322 owner....I'll take all the help I can get!
@@SamsMotors you rock! Thanks for the quick response :) love the content!
