Great honest review. I have been wanting to switch from iPhone 11 to a less expensive android device and this is the first review I’ve seen that gave really honest pros and cons. I’ll be waiting to see what the 4a 5G or perhaps the pixel 5 (depending on the final price) later this year to decide on making the big leap to android. Nice work.

As of Nov 4, it's only $216 with Google Fi if you finance it for 2 years. That's only $9/month, or $15/month with device protection. Felt like it's a great deal and ordered one for my mom. Arriving in a month, lol
I just picked this up yesterday. For $350 this is the best phone you can buy. The 3 year update support, google assistant, amazing camera, smooth and clean Android experience.
What I dont see reviewed is the usability of this phone as a "phone" as in making and receiving calls. Quite frankly this phone is a pain. Receiving calls is difficult if you are looking at the screen say on google or fb. Sometimes when it rings there is no answer pop up or it appears and you touch the screen elsewhere and I havent worked out how to get it back. I swipe up I swipe left but everything but answer the phone pops up. Its not clear either if its a mobile call or messenger for example and you look around trying to find the answer button the call ends and its hard to find the missed call to call back. My iPhone was so so easy to answer and call back. Really lets the phone down. Secondly, for some reason, Hey Google has stopped working. It did work then no more. Ive tried this and that and several fixes mentioned online but no joy, I no longer have Hey google. Notifications are also quite flaky. Some notifications stay on home screen for days despite tapping and reading them. Sometimes it beeps to advise of a notification but darned if I can see what notification was for. Maybe its me not used to the android way and I will perservere but google is hoping this will convert ios people to android , well nah!!
I never had any performance issues or lag at all when I had the 4a. The 730g while not the fastest processor feels very smooth when paired with stock android. The main things I didn’t like was the brightness being dim unless cranked all the way up and I was lucky to get 5 hours of screen on time if that. I did however love the plastic back because i never had to use a case and the small size made it very comfortable in the hand or pocket.

In some videos the Pixel shows rolling black bands up the screen, yours doesn't?! Would this suggests issues? people say has great screen but it's off white when change angle only a bit. This processor lag thing is just bizarre to me. I have a 4a running Android 11 and I haven't seen it at all. And why would I - the 730g is still way faster than flagships even a few years ago. And why would the menus in stock Android be maxing out the processor, that doesn't even make sense!

@@KevinToine /s means he meant it sarcastically. And I think it looks unnatural because of the lack of motion blur
I'm so confused. Do people actually sit and watch shows on their phones? For the price difference between this and a galaxy I could buy a decent 4k 60" tv.
Can you bring your 4k 60'' tv with you while you are commuting to work?
@@quiCksilvieZzz Do you really need super resolution while staring at a tiny ass screen while sitting on a train/bus? Who the hell cares? It's not like you're more immersed in your phone movie because of the resolution; you're on a train looking at a tiny ass screen just hoping the weirdo doesn't sit next to you.
It's nice to see a critical review that does not fawn over a device like everyone does.
I guess these guys aren’t paid enough to do so.
Comparing items these days is basically comparing either biased overwhelming love, or biased overwhelming hate.
No one lists out objective points with comparability anymore.
Then again they all get paid to simp on these products.
Crazy times when oneplus falls into the flagship names. Lol
I remember buying the very original OnePlus 1. So yeah, hearing it in the list of flagship phones is crazy
What's the Wednesday widget
anyone knows the widget?

Been almost a month im using 4A, works like charm no issues!
"Sure i wanna use a galaxy s20 ultra"
ah yes, comparing a $1400 phone to a $350 phone.
Do I buy a $1400 phone to kill time/text/make calls/ watch tv on a little screen OR buy a cheap phone to kill time/text/make calls AND buy a 70" 4k tv to watch tv for the same total cost? The cost of phones has gotten out of hand for the most minor upgrades that make no actual difference.
@@whitey211 I'll take the 2nd option
My favorite low midrange phone of the year.
Wished they kept the squeeze feature. I'm keeping my 3a XL another year, but would get this if I needed a phone today.

Nice work.
Why are you switching from iPhone 11?
i had never seen your channel but looking into joining the google family, this video review was extremely well put, amazing work
These guys are following MKBHD on UA-cam section 😂
I'm using the 4a right now. It is phenomenal.
What do you like about it?? I’m currently using an iPhone 7 but I’m reaching out on buying the 4A but I’m not sure what to expect. I need a good battery, good pictures and won’t die like the iphone does haha
What about battery bro, please let me know? I wanna buy.
Hows compare with iphone se
ONLY 150$ more 😂😂
As of Nov 4, it's only $216 with Google Fi if you finance it for 2 years.
The Pixel 4a looks great 😍
still rocking my og pixel xl and still loving it
I have been looking for a review that tested battery with a smartwatch always connected. Thanks a lot, finally found one. Great video, great review.
By the time they actually ship the 4a nobody will want it anymore
0:57 "automatic screen calling"? Call screening?
Yes it has the feature
@@4jup4ter4 lol! I know. It was mentioned in the video at around 0:57 in fact!
What widget are you using?
Eagerly waiting for this to arrive in India
I never had any performance issues or lag at all when I had the 4a. The 730g while not the fastest processor feels very smooth when paired with stock android. The main things I didn’t like was the brightness being dim unless cranked all the way up and I was lucky to get 5 hours of screen on time if that. I did however love the plastic back because i never had to use a case and the small size made it very comfortable in the hand or pocket.
Thanks for the update
I got a Pixel 4a a couple weeks back and upgraded to Android 11 almost right out of the box. Chat bubbles and the new media controls are not working for me. 😒
Anybody else having this problem?
Check settings to enable chat bubble for that specific app, if there's none then developer haven't pushed update to support chat bubbles...
@@mrincognito8355 Thanks. I appreciate the response. I did know that developer needed to implement the feature but it is Google's own Messages app I am having the issue with. I did some checking on the various Google forums after posting my comment and found this is an issue known to Google. It seems people who had installed the Android 11 beta can do it, but others will have to wait a bit for it to come supposedly soon. 😒
I really wanna upgrade my phone to a pixel phone but they sell out really fast and aren't available in the Philippines yet. Hope they target Asian countries more.
No one else in public has it yet
Once in a blue 🌕, this one is yellow an OEM hits a home run. Well, this 4a is it? It gets all the basics very right. At this price and what's offered is definitely a no-brainer. Average consumers rejoice this phone is for you. A flagship 📷 for cheap. You can't go wrong with this offering. Very good in depth review!
Great review overall, however,...
No face unlock is a notable con ??? while the 4 XL doesn't have the accurate and fast FP scanner, but no one complains about that...
Plenty of people complained about that. You must have very selective reading
@@tldr365 not in this video, it's painted as a con
Yeah should've added face unlock...
@@nishant_senapati what are you saying ?
@@YounesLayachi not having face unlock is a con... Atleast for me because i am now using a phone with rear fingerprint and I face problems. . Mostly while studying I tend to keep my phone on desk. Anyways I am looking to upgrade to 4a once it becomes available in India
It took me quite a while to figure out what automatic screen calling was.......
A have made the experience that even without IP rating, at least when used with a case, water damage happens very rarely. So for me this is far from the biggest downside here.
Same, you know someone is going to make a waterproof case eventually. With the phone already being small adding a waterproof case won't be the phone bulky at all.
I have heard that the ringtone volume is pretty low in Pixel 4a. Please provide your review on that point. Besides how about the quality of music through the headphone jack. I also heard that it is really sub-standard. Waiting for your response. Cheers!
7 series chips have finally made mid range Androids as desirable as old gen iPhones available in the price range. Upcoming 2021 7 series chips are rumoured to take huge step ahead in performance which is good for consumers.
In some videos the Pixel shows rolling black bands up the screen, yours doesn't?! Would this suggests issues? people say has great screen but it's off white when change angle only a bit.
My Pixel 4a also has a shimmery rainbow effect when I am viewing a white screen background at slight angle, my iPhone 6 and Nokia 1020 didn't have this? Is this normal on Pixel 4a screen? It is making reading webpages uncomfortable' I just brought it and wondering if I should return it? :(
what's that police chase game called? 3:08
Smashy Road 2
Whole 8 minutes video and my man's focus on a 3 sec clip. Respect +
This is perfect phone for average consumer who wants a solid phone that just works and at great price, i.e. solid battery life and a great camera. Throw in the pixel software experience and OS updates for 3 yrs and they're getting a great value.
Loving my Pixel 4a... Great value. The only thing I miss a bit is the IP water proof rating, but time will tell if it gets water damage.
This review is good, didn't feel like a pixel fanboy explaining.
I just bought a used one on Ebay. So excited.
Is 128gb really not enough for most people?
Literally the only thing this thing misses out on imo is an SD card. Googles free high quality storage ends in june next year so as of then we'll have a max of 15GB storage. So expandable memory for when that happens would be nice

Currently using the Pixel 3a XL and I really like it.
I use the 4xl & S10+, but at this price I'm adding to my stable, why the hell not!
Can you please tell me what widget do you have on the home screen? The one with the weekday! Thanks!
What's that date widget on your home screen?
I'm waiting for this to be available in my country
just got one (though kinda overpriced because i live in southeast asia because of tax). 1 week using it and it feels more premium than my last xiaomi phone. i feels very clean and smooth, no ads, i like the simplicity of it. very small and cute, but also capable. it's very stable, doesn't jitter much, unlike my last xiaomi phone.
overall it feels premium for me, because i've never use any midtier phone like this. my last 2 are budget phones. this phone doesn't make me wanna use it all day because it is very simple and minimal, almost feels boring to me, which is not really a bad thing.
7/10 (from your average college student)
Performance hasn't been an issue with everyday tasks like web browsing, UA-cam, Twitch, and Messenger. I've only had it for 2 days though. It is however world's different from my OnePlus 3, despite both using dual 2.2 GHz performance cores.
Hm. How come you didn't go for the nord? Is it not in your region or did you want to try a pixel? Just curious
Oh my that’s a phone great case!! Love the muted pastel colors!!!
Ppl reporting that phone overheating, and battery getting really hot, staying with my honor 10 that has better spec, baterry and is from 2018 cost half price now, pixel is a joke
Lol mate your software is trash, pixel software is the best on the market
One month and five days later my Pixel4a was unable to boot up, could not factory reset, basically a bricked phone. I liked it a lot up until then. Nice replacement for my 2XL until it stopped working. Not a heavy user either, no gaming, video streaming, or much navigation use, just mostly phone calls, photography, texting, music streaming, and average social media and news access. Replacement coming soon.
I think pixel phones are currently in a league of their own
Agreed
everyone's saying that the back looks unexciting and boring and "not so good" but that's exactly what i like, it looks sooo nice and smooth and i love the black colour
watching these reviews is so weird to me because i don't even know what half of the "missing" features are. i'm thinking of switching to this phone... from an iphone 6s+. the only reviews on youtube are from people who are used to "flagships" and other stuff like that so it just feels like i'm watching the wrong thing lmao
Hi great review...is there any noticeable heating issue ??
It may have been 3 months since this video was released but i just got the pixel 4a and while i was scrolling through instagram reels and one of the videos were glitching.. it wasn't part of the video though.. so i pressed the comments button and exit the comments button and the video stopped glitching.. is there something wrong???
This is seriously the best phone on the market at the price. Screw spending 900 plus

Hi, I am Kapil, I bought a new pixel 4a device in India via Flipkart (Big Billion Day). My pixel 4a smartphone could not connect to the network service. I am using VIL SIM with VoLTE. It shows no service even after trying it out with different carriers like JIO. Awaiting for your response.
This processor lag thing is just bizarre to me. I have a 4a running Android 11 and I haven't seen it at all. And why would I - the 730g is still way faster than flagships even a few years ago. And why would the menus in stock Android be maxing out the processor, that doesn't even make sense!
Yes, dude, some friends of mine are using phones with 710, 712, 675, I use ROG 2 with 855+ with 120hz, but frankly, I don't see a huge gap in day to day tasks, like browsing, switching between apps etc , only when the difference is obvious is, when we game, that's it, mobile chips have evolved, the difference between a flagship one and a midrange or upper midrange chips have became narrow.
I love my Pixel more then my S10
Reason? Just curious :)
@@applepro3317 it's hard to explain. I went from oneplus to pixel then back to oneplus and the amazing software and camera on the pixel is just such a big win

My OnePlus 5T uses a SD835 it does not lag at all & is supposed to be slower than 730G when seen on Antutu Benchmark, maybe poor optimization or buggy software patch?
Nice review, but why do u consider ip rating, wireless charging and motion sensor to be a con at this price point. At 350$ it is a really good deal. Btw, I have used my phone for so long but never dropped it in water so up rating doesnt bother me.
