The mighty lil 4.6L Fords are one of a kind.. One guy once told me my/the 4.6L 281ci sounds like it has 100 more cubic inches.. To which i replied, "yes it does (sound like it..)"

We drive a quarter mile and he looked over and said if this it racing I’m quitting. I’ve also drove the car a few times and it is fun

We took our 1973 Mach 1 to a benefit car show in Kinston, NC, for Colby Clayton, a 2 year old with aggressive eye cancer, to help him and his family out with expenses. To watch you rowing the gearbox is so beautiful. I wish I could still do it but my time is past. It is only what stick guy's know. I wish there were stick and auto classes like the old days. If the car had a bit more wheel speed in first gear along with stopping the bouncing, I'll guess there's 3 tenths you can get. --- I envy your package especially since you did it right with a Ford. Good luck.
So rad to see the modular Fords FINALLY getting the love they deserve. Im a die hard 2v guy. But as long as its FMC, its good enough for me. Cams over heads, leaving them for dead.
It's not making 630-640 at the crank. He said 540whp....that with a race tranny that uses less power than a oe tranny. Plus lightweight brakes that also frees up power. The diff likely has both lightened spool, gears and hollow axles. All reduces parasitic losses. It might make 600hp crank.
You should try to interview Andrew Lavender. He's got a nice 4.6 single turbo new edge white. It's crazy fast! He builds the engine's himself, minus the machining.
Another great one Evan. Answered a big question for me. On a small budget can make a 4.6 respectable for my sons first strip car. Much more affordable to acquire one and just wasnt sure about the " room to improve" . I now have my answer. Super informative piece. As always, your epic.

I’ve built a stock cube (.020 over) 4.6 4V that made 494/368 rear wheel on 93 octane (DJ) - and it wasn’t even a dedicated N/A build. The details would be interesting. There lots of potential in these 4-valve Modulars once you ditch the factory ECU - odd thing is only a handful of people have taken advantage of it
I remember reading back in the late 70's that carburetors made more power than the Hillborn direct port injectors of the day.... Could that still hold true today?
