Hi everyone! Let me know if you have any questions about this process, OR if there are other SketchUp/Blender tutorials you'd like to see in the comments below! :)
Thank you soo soo much you are my dear brother😍😍 ill wait for your step by step more videos in blinder. i shared this video in UAE and in UK. pakistan loves you😍
Lol - they're a bit tough because there's SO much Blender knowledge needed, and every SketchUp model is different - still, will try to figure out an easy to follow way to do more :)
FBX is a good format as it retains hierarchy and provides texture accuracy. However the version that sketchup spits out is ASCII which Blender doesn't read. To make it work we can just get the free Autodesk FBX conversion tool that converts the file to an object based autodesk standard fbx 2013 or 15 ( you can flip axes there and select from a lot of other options) After that blender imports it like a charm.
Great video thanks! I'd love to see how you would render an architecture/interior model in Blender. Since exporting to .OBJ doesn't let you affect the materials independently and exploding a large architecture model in Sketchup to export in .DAE didn't really work in my case.
Hi, ima beginner, why on my blender, either in light or mesh/plane there's no axis to move the object like yours, i google it everywhere and cant get how to enable it, so when i move plane or light its just randomly move on 3d space. thank you so much
Please can u help me? I make a 3d astrounatut at sketch up and i want to create from that 3d model , layers in blender for head and equipements what to do?
Hi! Thanks for the video. I only have one question, I've googled it but I can't find a solution. When I swich from eevee to cycles the model turns black. Any idea why that happens? Thanks.
Great job and great tutorials!!! You're my fav sketchup and blender teacher :) I've got a problem uploading a file from Sketchup on Blender, I saved it as a collada file and also as a obj file but when I try to open it on Blender it doesn't work... any idea? I'm using the sketchup trial but I've already uploaded a obj file from skp without any problem...
Hi mate is it possible that can you show us how to render in ONLINE ONLY VERSION of Sketchup. I cannot find any information on that on web.... Downloadable version of sketchup is not free anymore...
Hello, Importing & exporting works great! :) But i have problems with the matierials. At min 4.20 you suggest to make a video about this topic. Can you make one please. Thanks a lot :)
Hello. I recently tried to model human head and other sophisticated models in sketchup and I would really need some tool that could pull a face from already existing face. If you could help me with this feature I would be really happy.
@@Thesketchupessentials What I am basically trying to do is to seal a head that I tried to model. I made it into half of the head leaving me with only human face and now I ran out of faces to do back of the head and I don't know how to seal it or how to create some faces to continue model rest of the back.
Hello! This video is awesome! Would love to see the adding textures and more photorealisme tutorials from sketchup inputs, blender has such a high learning curve, it makes my head hurt! Also i've had 1 problem where i wanted to move the plane a bit and my whole model split apart... i re-exported the sketchup file and problem was fixd... but what do you think that causes this problem?
I'm don't think I'm going to learn blender shortcuts... I'm afraid to forget the Sketchup ones 😂 Edit: I learned Blender shortcuts. And every single time I open another app, either it's Sketchup or File Manager, I get frustrated when "X" doesn't delete 😂
Hello! Quick question, how do I resize my toolbar icons on SketchUp Web? I don't know what I might have done. They take up most of my workspace. Thanks in advance!
@@Thesketchupessentials I've gone into settings, but there's nothing that helps. Everything else on my browser is fine, except when I open SkethUp Web. Well, I guess it is what it is... I appreciate your help. Thanks again!
Update!! I found out how. While you're in your work space, press and hold Ctrl, while holding Ctrl scroll (IN / OUT) with mouse wheel. It's like zooming in, but instead, it makes your icons smaller or larger. I hope this will help everyone or anyone in the near future. (Note: This applies to SketchUp Web)
Hey, anyone knows why my model gets imported into blender with an incorrect scale?... like I make a box 2m x 2m x 1m in sketchup, export it to COLLADA, and then why I import it to blender it imports as a GIANT mother of all boxes - seems like 100 times bigger. Anyoner faced this kind of behavior? Using sketchup 2021 and just downloaded blender 3.2.something - the latest Many thanks for your help!!!
Yes thanks. It looks like free users are going to be squeezed out of SU in the near future and Blender would be one of the switch alternatives. IMHO the learning curve is very steep, I estimate twice that of SU.
Blender is much more powerful than SU, without a doubt. But Sketchup has its advantages over Blender. One of them being that is much easier to learn. For someone with a little bit of experience in 3d modeling, you could probably learn SketchUp in a couple of days. With Blender, that is impossible.
it's not that hard mate, and Blender is much much easier now to learn after new updates... you should take some time to learn it... i bet you'll love it... i used SU for about 5 years, and been playing with Blender for last last few months (Quarantine days) and i'm loving it..
It's definitely more complicated - I don't see this as an either/or situation though - I think SketchUp is great for some things, and Blender is great for some things - if you can learn to use them together, then you've got 2 great tools :)
@@Thesketchupessentials Agreed, as i am a student and SU is paid right now, so Blender, right now is the best solution for some people (i guess) but SU is much more user friendly...
@@Thesketchupessentials that s da point. using both is the key. dont forget SUlayout. i create architecture plans(defined scales) with it. you can t do it with blender. but you can import the house or whatefer as a colada or obj is working also, and put a sun in blender, light strength on 6.0 and check if the glas is transparent and you could render it. further go to mixamo, take the rapper character, choose a action, download the fbx, import in your blender-scene. add a camera and set some keyframes on your camerapositions, then render your video and your done great. :-)
Hey. I exported the project as obj and only thing i have in blender is the guy standing. I don't know what is this, looks like some sort of protection to me. Any help?
Hardly - I've started a Fusion 360 channel and a Rendering channel too. More a clear sign that I want to grow and develop both as a 3D modeler and an instructor. Architects learn SketchUp, Revit, AutoCad, and much more - that way they have multiple tools in their toolbox - why should I be any different?

and 1 more thing 1 wanna ask. is evee plug in? or this is already in blender?
Eevee is built into every version of Blender 2.8 and above

when i am importing the collada file from sketchup, my materials are not importing :( what to do ??
Sir can you help to find out that which site provide 3d models of less memory in SketchUp
Because if the memory is more the file size increase a lot & because of that SketchUp get very slow

No need to explode your model in SketchUp if uncheck box 'Preserve components hierarchies' in export settings
