      Just a heads up, it's going to be a bummer being away from your spouse during BMT and it's going to suck for him too. My wife and I send letters back and forth all the time, but it's not fun being apart. Just know that it's only temporary and you'll both be fine. Good luck at basic, ma'am!

      (02:29)
      Did she just say that they make the men and women get butt naked together? I have a military spouse in basic training right now and if that’s the case, there’s going to be an issue (between me and the administration in charge, not between me and my wife) when she graduates. That’s sexual harassment and law suit worthy. I hope i’m misunderstanding this, please someone let me know. Im already sceptic of the military and how trustworthy they are (look at our veterans and all the stories attached to the military), so this obviously doesn’t help me as a now military spouse waiting for my wife to get done.

    I’m not really scared of waking up early or the exercise, I’m just scared of being screamed at all day and making a mistake. I’m just sensitive. If there wasn’t screaming and intimidation involved, I’d be more likely to enlist...

    • @thesmileshow9651

      The screaming and constant stress is a must for recruiters to do their absolute best. Personally, I don't want them to get soft. I have to get tough.

      It’s that much stuff because you’ll likely be in a plane on radio with people being shot down and making sure you follow orders and not instinct
      War is really bad, I once was there, and boot camp seems like kindergarten compared to war
      Lots of yelling to do stuff without hesitation

      Don’t let your fears stop you. I’m most likely gonna enlist and I’m scared of the same thing you are but you can’t let your fear run you. Bc you will have an experience that you will never have again and will never forget! Life is short do something you want to do and don’t let anything stop you.

    Thank you so much Miranda . My daughters just arrived last night at 6pm at Lackland ! She was nervous and so was I (dad). She is the 5th generation of soldier in my family and Extremely proud of her. I remember Army boot camp 20 yrs ago and feared it would be hard for her as it was for me . I was a Combat Engineer so they had to be tough on us but have been preying not so for her. Got the phone call just 3 hrs ago from her that she was there and safe but it was so short and sounded staged (pre-written ) it kinda got me worried .
    After watching your video I'm very relieved and happy knowing its not like the Hell we went through but enjoyed so many years ago .She a very strong and healthly young woman and now know she will do well !!Cannot thank you enough !!

      They're just people..... all they want is to know you have the endurance to be used and abused by the government (which as a white doesn't work for your interests these days). They look for people with next to no dignity honestly.

    • @mirandagollnick
      @mirandagollnick  7 років тому +12

      Mary Hicks don't be scared! You hair just needs to be a natural color, and minus PT time (which is so early it'll still be dark out) you will be in full uniform so they most likely won't see your tattoos!

    • @drieka951

      Just do your best, listen (that's why they're yelling). And enjoy how simple life is while you're there, it will never be that way again lol. But def try your best. I didn't put myself out there but MTIs do notice leadership qualities in people and what you do in BMT CAN help you later in your career. One of the main reasons I won BTZ was because I had leadership roles in each level I'd been in since I joined.

    It's only easy if you do the minimums.
    Males is 33 pushups, 44 situps, 13:37 for the 1 mile and a half.
    Those are minimums.
    She already told you the minimums for females.
    Overall if your a female its literally a walk through the park for you. 18 push ups in 1 minute... situps are the same bit than the run they get 3 minutes more.
    ....utilizing the latrines you dont need a wingman anymore unless if you are outside. If you're outside you need a wingman to escort upstairs or to a porta potty.
    I got to ask, since you made sound like a vacation. An that is what squadron were you a part of? Disneyland or Alcatraz (new school and old school)?

    I'm 35 :) I've lost 84 lbs less than 6 months. Only have 19 lbs left to go and I can join the airforce :) I was curious how bad is the running at bmt ?? I know for my age I need to run a mile in a half less than 16 min. Just was curious how often you run... is it pretty hard core ? that's my only concern about bmt lol.. any advice will be greatly appreciated :) thank you !!

      I'm 25 and thinking about going. But first I have to lose 55 pounds before I can be considered. What are you doing to lose weight? Have you talked to a recruiter? Did the recruiters help you lose weight?

    • @michelles7531
      @michelles7531 6 років тому +5

      Miranda Lorton Hi Miranda I've lost 110 lbs total. I'm finally meeting with the recruiter on Halloween day :) No unfortunately I didn't have ANY recruiters wanting to help me with losing weight. They basically said come back and we'll talk once your at the weight requirement.
      It's been a HUGE motivation for me to lose weight to be able to join the military. What I have been doing to lose weight ? it's been pretty intense... NO soda... no bad carbs such as brrad, rice, pasta, chips, crackers. I kept my carbs, sugars and sodium really low. Lots of water. I also didn't eat past 5:00 pm. That really helps. I also have been walking 2-4 miles everyday. You can do it !!!! Only you can be your biggest motivation... you can do it if you want it bad enough :)

    • @mirandalorton2054
      @mirandalorton2054 6 років тому

      Thank you. I was figuring they wouldn't want to bother unless you were actually at the requirement. My weight gain came from the nexplanon birth control implant I got a year ago. I gained 50 pounds and no change in diet or activity. I think my first step would be to remove the birth control and continue going to the gym. Thank you for replying to me! I am motivated. I need to support my family and have money for college. And go you! Such an amazing accomplishment losing the weight.

    It can be fun or can be not so fun - it is up to the person!
    7 weeks of training and one week of enjoyment from all your hard work!
    If you make this choice prepare - check you self and any attitudes towards authority figure crap. This is not the place for childish non-sense!
    Best approach is this is a personal challenge and you will succeed!
    Upper body prep goes a long way and start way before leaving - delayed enlistment can help serve you in this transition.
    Also you get paid for that period retro active and any college goes toward a stripe with pay on the get go!
    BMT Broken down to Intro to military life - yelling at you and pressure to perform is kids play so don't get worked up and play the game with speed and confidence.
    Week 2 you begin getting into the actual training and physical fitness while still processing.
    Week 3 - ramps up and start education and warrior training.
    Week 4 - TI's relax and you should be getting the hang of it.
    Week 5 - Real training kicks in - chemical warfare, range, marching skills and of course PT.
    Week 6 - Ramps up some more - history class and first aid as well as combat stuff to get ready for BEAST week - confidence course REAL FUN!
    Week 7 - BEAST WEEK. Deploy to the annex for the week and train like combat and defense skills. Exhausting but fun. Team work and cool stuff! This is the real graduation!
    Week 8 - Airman' week - TI's cool and helpful - get awards and do the Airman's Run, parade and Town pass!
    Congratulations You did it!

      Homosexuality isn't allowed in the military. Not saying there are not homosexuals there, they just aren't allowed to make it known without the possibility of getting in trouble (kicked out, reprimanded, ranks lowered, etc) I've been told. They don't ask about ur sexuality but you aren't allowed to marry the same sex while in the military, and anything else you can think of. It's really sad to me considering our sexuality has nothing to do with how productive we can be

    Regardless if you went to BMTS in 1962 or 2022. It is basically the same game. Bring you up to the minimal fitness standards, bring you up to mental standards and bring you up to the educational standards.. It is also to weed out those who exhibit a failure to adapt, dont want to uncover that in a wartime situation when other peoples lives hing on you doing your job. Go into it knowing it is a mind game. Do what they say to the best of your ability and dont give the TI's an attitude. Once you make it through its behind you. The real USAF is more relaxed. But everything you learn in basic is a building block for you moving forward. Dont give your leaders noise, I know there is some poo NCO and O's.. I have worked with some.. I have also worked with some great ones.. In today's USAF it is easier to get a bad apple out of the military than it is to keep a good one in. Very hard to justify a 5 EPR, no questions asked on giving someone a 4. Evals count for promotions.. If you plan to do 4 years and eject ok do 4 years eject.. But if you are undecided pretend you are staying and do what it takes to get hte good eval. If you plan to reach Chief aka E9. you need to start planning for it at E3.. Making BTZ, Making Staff Sergeant first time. The longer you take on anything puts you behind. Anytime any schooling or training is tasked of you such as 5 or 7 level training or PME.. GET IT DONE ASAP, push your boss to get you in it. Volunteer for jobs outside your specific trained job. Volunteer for special duty assignments. The key is move move move.. I bucked the system, did it my way, stayed at bases too long.. But in year 1 when the super intendent asked 12 airman in my work center, where do you see yourself in 20 years. All the folks around me said Chief E9. I knew most wouldnt make Staff. I said E7 Master Sergeant. I pinned on at my 19 year mark. I was not a bad troop, I didnt kiss ass, I didnt do the extra's. I did what I did the best i could.. did 24 years. If I just played the game a bit more, and listened ot the folks who tried the mentor me when I was young I could have for sure made E8.. In short if someone takes interest in you and tries tell you do this, do that, (personal growth stuff) listen to them.. Senior folks will pick a few junior folks to groom and mentor to grow. Seek out a mentor even if not your boss. I lost some jobs in my senior years due to me fighting for young troops who were problems, which I saw their boss was poor leaders. I won a few I lost a few. Integrity, service before self though a core values is a rare thing. You have to decide what is best for you and your moral compass. Take all the college courses you can on uncle sam's dime, when you get out use your GI bill why the benefits are there (time limit).Thanks for serving in my Air Force.. Good Luck!!
