@SHAWN TUBBS: I LISTEN TO THIS DAILY TO GET INSPIRED. THE "OUTSIDE" LEAD PLAYING MELTS MY FACE AND MAKES MY HEAD EXPLODE IN THE BEST POSSIBLE WAY. THANK YOU!
Once again, another ST demo knocked out of the park! Your playing is such a joy to listen to and watch; still waiting for that solo album! Maybe one of these days...
Love this video and your amazing tasty tone! This is my current top Favorite amp for worship! I have it modeled on my Fractal AX8 and it sounds exactly as yours! I used a built in Inpulse Response in AX-8 2×12 30 watt blues Cab. So tasty and clean tones really a joy to hear and play.
Shawn, great demo as always. I was hoping to get the MVP23 in Singapore but the dealer is all out. They have the AC20 though. Which do you think would make a better pedal platform, and does one have more clean headroom than the other?
Another excellent video, Shawn. Have you ever posted a video in which you discuss your usual signal chain for recording your guitar (mic(s), preamp, etc)?
Thanks, Jesse, I've not done a signal chain demo but I have done a demo about the mics I use and the placement. ua-cam.com/video/gcBKmaL65Ys/v-deo.html
Amazing demo as always Shawn! Off topic question - How are the Port City cabinets? Was thinking about getting one. Do you have opinion on 1x12 vs. 2x12 for recording? Thanks.
Suhr Badger 18 has a really good fx loop and uses power scaling.....is there something different about how the MVP/AC20 works that I'm missing? I've never heard complaints about the Badger 18"s fx loop......any Badger owners out there care to weigh in? Just curious......a good loop could be very useful to run a noise gate through when your stuck with ground noise/dirty power situations......
Auen73 I have the 18 head. No noise issues. You can scale it down to around half a watt. I mainly use it for a pedal platform for distortion, OD, fuzz and that’s about it. I’m not into ambient FX. Not that you asked but I tell it like I see it and I won’t touch a Morgan amp due to Joe’s stealing money from customers prior to boutique amps distribution getting involved to help him. If u buy direct u got screwed. So if ur going to buy make sure it’s from a reputable distributor. I don’t care who jumps on me it is the truth. It’s been all over the gear page, other forums and utube that video was taken down because after the bids at boutique involved he got his amp after publicizing the issue. Only took a couple of years and I think close to 3 grand. Plus, he used fake stuff in his pedals. And it seems it’s been forgotten. Unbelievable.
Shawn can you give an opinion on how this is similar and different vs the MVP? Also, do you think this is different enough to use as a two amp setup with the MVP or would you go with 6V6 or 6L6 to pair with the MVP?
I think the MVP has more of a Marshall kind of thing going. The AC20 is much more like a Vox. Not sure how well the two would pair. If I had an MVP I might be more apt to look at 6v6 or 6l6 amps.
Shawn Tubbs thinking of saving the money and just getting a non deluxe version like this. What do you think? Is it worth getting a deluxe model instead?
Shawn Tubbs I would say if not on a budget I’d just get a deluxe but saving around $600-$700 sounds like for now, I could do without having that option
I know that might sounds crazy, but I'd love a Morgan Amp head that would have both AC20 Deluxe and MVP23 circuit... not specially as a multi channel, I think a single channel amp with a circuit selector would make it. I know, I could just get both AC20 Deluxe and MVP23, but it's it would be easier to only carry one and have access to both tones. As said, it might sound crazy, but it would be fun to have this kind of amp.... My 2¢ PS: Of course, a Loop would be the icing on the cake... but I know Joe doesn't like Loops!
I think part of the problem concerning an FX loop in a low wattage amp is a lot of the overdrive comes from the power section. If the return side of an FX loop is hitting the input of an overdriven power section it's not going to sound good. In my opinion FX loops only work well on amps that derive the majority of overdrive from the preamp section.
I fully understand, and even talked about it with Joe Morgan over Instagram, but I disagree... not because it's wrong, because you (and Joe) are completely right about the Loop having an effect (pun intended) on the tone... but I disagree because I see many great amps such my Two-Rock, or other such Friedman, etc... that have a good Loop that can be used and is very transparent to the signal. And worse case scenario, it could always be done with a bypass switch to take it out of the circuit for the purists that don't want any loop. And it will be up to everyone to understand that the loop could change the tone because it wouldn't come to the power section with the appropriate signal. For me, the Loop is really important, not only to have effect post-preamp, but also to mixmatch preamps and amps... As said, I understand the reason why it's not done, I just see it differently.
If the return side of an FX loop is distorted or overdriven, you're not going to like how your delays and reverbs sound. I have a Friedman DS 40 watt and I love it and the FX loop is great and I definitely use it because I get most of the overdrive from the preamp. I've got zero problems with an FX loop but on a low wattage amp if that power section is overdriven, it's not about being a purist for me it's about having your effects sound distorted.
I know what you mean (and you're right) but I'm absolutely not a fan of the Synergy system... like NOT AT ALL! In that case, I will just completely pass on the offer and will stick to a single AC20 Deluxe... if that's the amp I will go with. Now to be completely honest and transparent, AC tones are really not a priority on my wish list right now, so I still have plenty of time before to decide and many things can still change by then. We'll see...
Yep I think Shawn is spot on. You need headroom in your power section to maintain the benefit of your loop otherwise you most likely experience the same sort of issues you have hitting the front end of an amp with your delays or other full preamp type of devices of too much saturation. I suspect your Two Rock is not cathode bias higher headroom etc and therefore has a fair bit more headroom than most Morgan models.
Cool Shawn your demos sound good what are the tricks you're using on the amp to get a good sound while recording? Do you have any acoustic setup going on the amp?
Love the Power control sample on this amp. Much better than a basic Master Volume. Impressive feature ! I wish My Matchless C 30 had that !
@@chiknpickr1 I love my sc30
Another great demo. 0:44 is classic Shawn Tubbs. So very fun and creative.
First off....wow. Great playing and great sounds as usual. Very impressed by what this simple layout can do.
This guy is so rad! Such original leads!! So rare these days!

Great playing as always Shawn. Production is superb too
Stella demo Shawn ! Great lines great tracks and Joe's amps ... fantastic !
Amazing review, Shawn. Keep up the awesome work!
Demo track has so much attitude!!!!! Love it
Great tones with awesome playing as usual! Love your vdeos!
Just ordered a Morgan Pr12 today. Next on the list is a Suhr! Great demos!
Aaron M how do you like the pr12?
As always Shawn, sounds amazing!
Most excellent demo as usual.
Sounds wonderful Shawn. I reckon' that LsL with the filtertron always sounds excellent.
Grant Ferstat
Indeed.
this guy could make a broomstick with elastic bands sound killer.
Good demo- the talking to playing/sound demonstration ratio is perf

Great playing. Subscribed!! Such a great amp, but I wish it had an effects loop! I don’t like running delay/reverb through the front!
Thanks so much for Subscribing!!
How is this amp for Led Zeppelin and AC/DC kind of stuff?
Shawn, what is this Suhr Tele model you are playing?
Awesome demo.

super informative, thanks
Pete Thorn and Tim Pierce all in one .. Nice job .. Any tabs on some of those runs??? Thanks . JG
Shawn is a Monster player with his own style just the way I like him🎸😍
Amazing demo as always Shawn! Off topic question - How are the Port City cabinets? Was thinking about getting one. Do you have opinion on 1x12 vs. 2x12 for recording? Thanks.
The Port City cabs sound great. The 1x12 would be perfectly fine to record.

Which amp would have more clean headroom in your experience, AC 20 or MVP 23?
The MVP 23 in my humble opinion.
I'm not sure I understand this amp. Aren't the two tone switches and the cut knob redundant?
Those switches are based more on specific vox style circuits. Think "top boost" or "non-top boost".
@@ShawnTubbs Ah ok! Gotcha
What mode of scales are you playing besides pentatonic? Great chops and tone :)
You're very kind. I don't really know modes or scales. I just play based on shapes.
@@ShawnTubbs Trapezoids, pentagons lol
How do you think the SS rectifier would stack up against the deluxe model with the tube rectifier? trying to decide between the two
I tend to lean toward a tube rectified platform for the most part because it just feels better to me.
Are you demoing the sw50 too? Would love to hear it...
I'll be demoing the JS12 next. Not sure about the SW50.

It doesn't have an FX loop.
Cool tones & wicked licks. However, the MVP23 is (a bit) more my cup of tea.
Thanks!
Any post recording eq or compressors added or is this straight up amp?
That's all amp! Thanks for watching.
Shawn Tubbs thinking of saving the money and just getting a non deluxe version like this. What do you think? Is it worth getting a deluxe model instead?
I've not played the deluxe model yet. I like the idea of being able to choose the EF86 or 12ax7.

D'addario NYXL 10-46.

@@TheSevag10 Thanks very much! No tricks. The mics you see are the mics I'm using into my Chandler TG2 mic preamp. No post-compression or EQ.
@@ShawnTubbs thanks for the info brother
How loud is it sitting next to you when dimed? Is the amp loud enough for gigging with a band?
There's a good amount of air moving when it's all the way up for sure. I think it would be fine on small stages.
Isn’t there a switch to change the tubes? Or is that just the deluxe version?
That is the deluxe version.
what speaker was in this amp?
Celestion G12H75 Creamback.
Oh boy. Here we go credit card. Sorry to be so tough on you these days! lol.......and then Origin puts out that RevivalDrive!!!! Dude.....
mvp or this?...
I prefer the MVP but they're both great amps. I just prefer a little bit of that American meets British thing that the MVP does.
Wow...
Fuck me you can play Mr T.
Hate seeing one of my favorite players demo an amp made by a guy that ripped me off (and countless others). Morgan su***
