    A viewer, by the name of Susan, commented on my Joyo Zombie take 2 video, asking about the difference between the Zombie and the Hotone micro amps. So I decided to make a quick little demo of the Hotone Heart Attack Micro Head using the exact same settings from the Zombie video. The Precision Drive (on all the time) from Horizon Devices is set the exact same, as well as the settings on Impulsive by 3 Sigma Audio (single Ola Englund IR). Again, I'm playing "The Deceived" by Trivium.

    After comparing the 2 amps, I noticed a significant shift in the mid range voicing between the 2. I also noticed that the Heart Attack, although having arguably more gain than the Joyo Zombie, is much more "squishy". The low end is much looser EVEN WITH the Precision Drive engaged, however for the sake of comparison I did NOT adjust the PD's settings to compensate. Even without the PD on, the Heart Attack is a very "small" sounding head. Where the Zombie is indeed a little bigger in physical size, it's tone has more dynamic range compared to the Heart Attack.
    That being said, check out this video from Lasse Lammert getting a pretty ridiculous mic'd capture of the Heart Attack using a 2 4x12 cabs • HoTone Heart Attack De...
    As a buyer, for the current difference of $30, the Zombie, in my opinion, is the better option. It just offers more. BUT I've been using the Heart Attack as a power amp for my Line 6 Helix for over a year and it's awesome for that. So if you need a smaller pedalboard mounted power amp for your modeler, I'd consider the Heart Attack for that instead of your rig's main tone source.
    Thanks for watchin!

    Thanks so much for this video. It definitely helped a lot in making a decision.
    I went with the zombie, but I'm sure I'll probably pick up the Heart Attack as well sometime soon. They both just seem pretty cool and at that price point, why not? haha

      Susan B you're very welcome! After playing them both and listening to the a/b comparison, I personally like the zombie's tone more. It's just a well-rounded, chunky tone for chugging but is also a more versatile head. Hope you love when it arrives! \m/

    I own this little fella and mine is not that muddy. Looks like highs were lost somewhere along the way.

      "The Tone King" is such false advertising for that guy.

      Clint Norwood I actually unsubscribed him because I couldn’t take listening to his tone anymore lol. Nothing he played was pleasant to my ears. He has a lot of good content still

      Dan Capeau he seems like an ok guy but him and that Eric "Shreds" kid should spend money on lessons over getting a ton of gear. You will never get the sound your looking for with bad technique

    There was another guitar track playing along right? Something sounds weird at first

    How are you digging the Precision Drive so far?

      It's great! Been using it with several different amplifiers and they all react well with it. The best thing is the stepped attack knob, which allows you to precisely control the tightness from amp to amp, guitar to guitar. It's pretty damn cool lol

    This little monster sounds way better than this demo run bone dry through a 412 cab with a single coil strat or himbucker Ibanez hotrod screamer

    Wow, why did you murder the mids?

    • @DanCapeau
      @DanCapeau  7 років тому +1

      ?? I tried to save them! Haha I felt I needed to add more mids cuz the unedited tone was getting lost in the mix

    • @Millweed
      @Millweed 7 років тому

      I noticed that in the video the mids knob is all the way down. I also watched the video about the Zombie hoping to use it as reference but there you had the mids cranked. I want to get one of the two but I'll test them thoroughly after this

      YetiGarbh This is true but the heart attack's mid knob frequency adjustment is mostly in the upper mids, so if I turned them up, I got a very old school, 80's metal, hollow tone which I didn't like. Believe me, you can scoop it much more than how I had it with the post-eq bypassed haha. check out Lasse Lammert's vid for a high quality demo. He's using a 4x12 stack and mic'ing it

      One thing I learned over the past 20+ years that I've been recording and doing live sound is that while super-scooped mids playing heavy metal sounds great playing alone, when playing live and recording in a mix, the rhythm guitar will often get lost and lose its presence in the mix. So I've learned that it's always better to not scoop the mids too much as its easier to cut more mids during mixdown then it is to boost the mids back up.

      haha Thanks very much. Yeah the Heart Attack is a little difficult to find a really solid tone for recording.
