Carey, you are indeed fortunate. I had what was first diagnosed as indigestion. Turned out my spleen had grown to almost 10 pounds and it was because of Mantle Cell Lymphoma. I had to have it removed, and so far, eight years and three different chemotherapy regimens, I am still here. Like you, I didn't think it was anything serious. I had always been very healthy. Keep an eye on your blood counts sir.

Hi Carey, Good story, the one i tell at work about myself was when i felt "flu" like with hot and cold flushes. I rarely see a doctor ( Australia medical and hospital is 100% free ) anyway after 2 days i was not well and rang the local doctor for a house visit, this was about 2pm he came at 7pm. So after a few questions and poking around he takes my blood pressure, has a bad look on his face, and takes is again, then tells me his machine is broke, i tell him my wife has one from Aldi, so he tries it, makes the same face and says this one is no good, then says he has his old mercury one in the boot of the car and goes gets it.
He take my BP and then takes it again and smiles, he said his machine is not broken, then writes a doctors not and says, you need to go to the hospital, tell the emergency nurse your BP is over 300.
So my wife drives me to the hospital, i tell the nurse and she says "no way" i hand her the doctors note, they send me to one side, another nurse and doctor come and take my BP, they say it is not 300 - i say so what is it , they say 280
Ok work not 300 but 280, the doctor says is is basically x2 normal
What i had was kidney stones, but it happened again, and when they asked me if there was anything unusual about day to day i said nothing, they then asked what about toilet issue, i said nothing, then i got the look, they ask about my no2's colour shape size etc blood, nothing they ask about urine colour and i said the same, then i "got the look" what information are you holding back on
I could not think of anything , i then said ok ho is this , when i pee, it smells like warm honey tea
The nurse started laughing, they send me for tests and it turned out i had some bacteria in the urinal area
And people think PC software and hardware diagnosis is difficult
    Regards
    George

A coworker-friend died in the hospital, age 50, in Feb 1996. He was a healthy person and I never found out why he died. His nephew told me he "Blew up like a balloon" (Sepsis) and the staff was unable to do anything to save him. Why it happened, I will never learn. I am glad Carey survived. One should never take life for granted.

Carey, had a similar brush with death last year. Woke up one morning having fallen out of bed and babbling incoherently. Woke up 2 months later to be told I had luckily survived septic shock, survival rate 18% and had surrendered 2 feet of colon and sundry other bits and pieces to a massive infection.

I almost died from a bad gall bladder in 2002. Had symptoms from the time I was 16, and it took 15 years and seeing a doctor that had just had his removed to recognize it.. I was on a waiting list for 2 months and got a call a month later saying they had an opening due to a cancellation. While this was going on, I was in so much pain I was going to the ER and being shot up with morphine for it.
They get in there, do the surgery, when I wake up, they told me they were glad the opening had come up, because I wouldn't have lived to see the date they had set.. My gall bladder basically fell apart while they were removing it.

I was tearing up thinking I was so close to losing my friend. I've lost one brother and I don't want to lose another. There is something you forgot to mention. Cree (I can't remember if she was a "C" or "K") died from a ruptured spleen. Very odd how dog and owner went thru the same thing...almost.

I can actually relate to your story. But mine was heart. For about 2 weeks didn’t feel up to par. I figure I’m just tired. I owned my own Concrete business. Contractor. I wake up to go to Sunday School and really wanted to sleep in. I stayed home while my family went to church. My wife calls and says they are going to eat Mexican for lunch and celebrate my brother in law birthday. I go and come back and within an hour I’m full blown heart attack but still thinking it’s heartburn. Lol. MEN. I actually don’t go to the hospital because like you I don’t have insurance. The next day I’m feeling fine. I get up and go check on the job before I order the concrete to pour that morning. The driveway was filled with water from it raining the night before. God? I just got off the phone with the concrete company rescheduling the concrete for the next day the doctors office called about some medicine for my wife. I proceeded to tell the about my episode and they tell me to come and get blood pressure checked. Free of charge. That was the last free of charge they did. Blood pressure was HIGH they did an ekg found I had a heart attack. They made an appointment with the hospital cause my wife drove me home. The next day I see the doctor and was scheduled to do a stress test but doctor came in and said she doesn’t the I’ll survive the test. That’s when things got big. A whole team of doctors and nurses came in Im immediately rushed to a heart cath and they find I’m 96% blocked in my main artery and 85% in another. They said I should have died but again...God? Of course they do a 2x bypass and screw it up by cutting my limp duck to get a vein they use for the bypass and needless to say I spend 2 months more in the hospital and having 3 more surgery’s to fix the “Oh s... moment” the doctor did. By the way that’s what the doctor said when he described what had happened.

I can relate to the heart attack. The only difference was I had no pain, just really "heavy" arms and legs. I also would get winded easily when I would walk for a long distance, which I did at work. (3 to 7 mile a night) I went to my family doctor twice in in two weeks before they told me to go to the hospital. It took the hospital 14 hrs to figure out what was going on, most of that was spent in the waiting room, even though I'd given them my EKG results from the doctors office. I wound up having a 90% blockage in the left artery. They inserted a stent to correct the blockage. I've never had any high blood pressure my whole life, they still gave a "full" dose of blood pressure meds about 4 hours after surgery. Needless to say, that almost killed me. My pressure dropped to 64/47. Luckily I never passed out. I had the floor doctor, the cardio doctor and a quite a few other medical personnel, including ones with a crash cart in the room all trying to keep me alive. I just glad to be still.

So, how much was the bill, and how did it get paid?
I had a heart attack (I was 54), and had bypass surgery (quintuple bypass - my arteries were all plugged up). It was about $200,000. Fortunately, I had insurance, but I'm still paying off what the insurance didn't cover, and this was 4 years ago. Like you, I didn't want to go to the ER, and I knew what it probably was. Four minutes after arriving at the ER, I "died". Everything went black, and 10 hours later when I woke up, the doc said I was dead (no heart beat) for three minutes. Had to shock me twice to get me back. Anyway, morals of the story: Don't smoke, and don't ignore chest pain.

Having not had any surgery or anything ever and the only health issue I’ve ever had was having to have breathing treatments as a kid but that’s about it 🤷‍♂️ not looking forward to going under the knife to get my wisdom teeth removed, in fact I’ve put it off for a really long time, but it’s gotta be done

In March 2017, my Dad and I were drafting out a business plan outside my workplace. In June 2017 he started complaining of back pains, In August 2017 he was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer.
He passed away in November 2017.
The plan was to save up as much as possible so that by January 2018 we could open up our own firm.
    Life has just become pointless.

Had a pain in my back around my shoulder blade, thought pulled muscle, next thing stabbing spear across my back between 2 shoulder blades like pingpong razor blades. Told wife I think I'm having heart attack, ambulance, hospital, click click the 3 beats from coding, nurse gives b me a bunch in chest beam back, life flight ( $36,000 8 mile flight) to ER heart hospital 2 catheters ( $3,000 ea) platinum springs later , lost 10% of my heart because I like fried foods and butter. Long story short $350,000 or leave voluntary fat consuming alone, your choice. Still have to have buttered toast with breakfast.
