- This video covers the fifteenth chapter of the Openstax Psychology textbook - Psychological Disorders. Presented by Dr. Mark Hatala, Professor of Psychology at Truman State University, the video covers topics such as definitions of psychological disorders, the DSM-5, the IDC-10, the diathesis-stress model, anxiety disorders, phobias, social anxiety, panic disorders, OCD, PTSD, depression, bipolar disorder, hopelessness, rumination, schizophrenia, dissociative disorders, personality disorders, ADHD, and autism.
My students and I have shot discussion videos on all the chapters. The video for the Psychological Disorders chapter is called Supernatural and Unexplainable Events (which is how our ancestors often described psychological disorders)! The videos are vastly more interesting and engaging than these Powerpoints! Check it out here: • Supernatural and Unexp...

I get panic attacks that are typically triggered by health-related things, even anxiety and panic as topics of discussion. It has taken me all day to watch this 30 minute video, and even still, I couldn't "listen" to it (compared to your other uploads) - I only read the slides. My heartrate has also been high 90s the entire day... now that I have finally finished looking, it has remained low 80s - hopefully it'll go back to my normal 60-70 range soon. 🤐
Like everyone else, I truly appreciate these uploads!
You're very welcome for the videos. I'm glad you were able to find a way to learn the material in a way that didn't cause too much anxiety.
I appreciate you so much! Thank you so much for these videos!
You're very welcome! Thanks for taking the time to comment and best of luck in your studies!
I actually find this useful personally
That's great David! Best of luck with your studies!
@@hatalatesting6476 Thank you!

You're very welcome! Good luck with your classes!
I'm afraid of heights. Even now, as I write this word, my legs are aching. I cannot stand on the balcony, I feel bad even when I imagine that I am looking down. It seems to me that the handrail will break and I will fall. But at the same time, I calmly endure the flight.
I understand Olivia - I hate heights too, but flights are okay.
Thank you!
I have a form of Thalassophobia. (fear of deep water) Thalassophobia covers seas and oceans, but my fear is beyond that. I cannot swim (nor do I love the dark associated with deep water), so even the 10-foot area of a pool is scary to me. I have experienced being in pools, but not in seas or oceans. I show signs of panic attacks over pools, but for lakes/oceans/seas, I think it would be much worse. I can't even watch underwater TV documentaries. It's kinda crazy!
Also, PTSD is more than just from experiencing things like auto accidents and combat. People can develop PSTD from being sick. My mother is often very sick and I have flashbacks to it all the time.
It isn't the same PTSD as a veteran's, but it is still valid and still exists.
If it's not too personal Belle, are you able to fly over bodies of water?
@@hatalatesting6476 I have not flown before. I'm also nervous about that.
I almost drown at 9 years old and I was never able to learn to swim after that, I do fear water the same way you do, I wonder if I will ever get over my fear.
When I was 8 or 9 a huge wave from the Atlantic crashed over me and knocked me over - I inhaled a bunch of salt water, couldn't breathe, etc. It was my last time in the ocean and I've only been to beach birthday parties of little cousins since. I also never learned to swim!
I have arachnophobia that spider omg
Spiders look strange, and their moves are sudden and unpredictable, so arachnophobia makes all kinds of sense.
👍👍👍👍👍
Me watching this the day of the final 👁️👄👁️
Good luck!
