Seen him and soilwork live a few times in new orleans. In summer 2005 I traveled abroad for a 10 day trip in Europe and I brought Stabbing the Drama on CD. This was the first Soilwork album featuring Dirk on drums. Their previous drummer was nothing short of incredible, so it took a few listenings for me to appreciate the new sound Dirk and Soilwork came up with. I must have listened to that CD 500 times on that trip. Looking back I can say that's not just in my top 3 soilwork albums, but in my all time metal upper tier list. Amazing production. When I returned home after that trip Hurrican Katrina hit a few weeks later, completely upending my life and setting me on an entirely different course. It was Stabbing the Drama and In Flames' Come Clarity that helped me and many of my friends through that tough rebuilding phase for years after that storm. Music meant more to me then. It feels like in the last 10 years I haven't wanted to listen to music I might enjoy because I'm never doing anything that makes me happy enough to want to bind music to it. I can't even listen to the awesome music I used to listen to for fear of disassociating the memories I have when that music was mine and so many of my friends' soundtrack.
The “Dirk blast” is named after this guy… Also, their replacement after Dirk left is a Danish guy Bastian Thusgaard. He got loads of drum playthrough videos to watch too. A great guy as well!
I know it's been a little over a month but I have to say it again. It's so good to have you back. Huge fan of Dirk. Definitely a drummer I draw inspiration from. Thank you for this awesome content!
Soilwork is probably my favorite metal band and the era with Dirk is their strongest material, imo. I was sad for Soilwork/me when he joined Megadeth, but he's for sure getting paid well in that group so I'm happy for him.
For a future reaction video you should definitely do Computers by Clown Core or Overtime (live band sesh) by Knower. Either's fine since it's Louis Cole drumming on both. Guys a beast!
YUS> DIRK is amazing! He has been one of my favorite drummers since I first found out about Soilwork back in 2005. Sadly he is no longer in Soilwork :C He is too good for Megadeth. This album is one of my favorites too. DIRK BLAST!!!
If anyone on here has not listened to the work that he did with Jeff Loomis guitar player put on a really good set of headphones and listen to it and you will be amazed he's the most progressive drummer and sick beyond explanation when you listen to that you compare him to Dean Casanova back in the day but times 10 do it listen to it reevaluated and then post a comment on it. Thanks enjoy the listing experience you won't regret it
A lot of people talk about his work with Soilwork, but his work with Scarve and Aborted is phenomenal as well. Really recommend Scarve - Irradiant if you are a Devin Townsend, Soilwork and Meshuggah fan (one of the song has even a solo from F. Thordendal himself :) )
Check out his video on how to do his "Dirk Blast" for some shits and giggles... Dirk is a beast. He's kind of wasted in Megadeth...( no shade on 'Deth) but can't fault a guy for wanting to get paid.
Hey man, I’m newish to your channel - really love your stuff and the way you talk about drums. Do you do any hip hop drummer reactions? I’d love to hear your perspective on some guys like Aaron Spears, Anderson Paak, Tony Royster Jr. , Stix, etc. Keep up the good work!
hello.. i think you should see the drummer from one of the brutal death metal bands from Indonesia.. the name of the band is JASAD.. and the drummer names is oky fadlan.. check the youtube channel oky fadlan
Yes all hail Dirk! As someone may have already mentioned. Dirk left Soilwork to go to the ‘deth. He gave his soilwork job to one of his students - Bastian. Well worth checking out. Just my opinion but he is wasted in Megadeth
@@the6ig6adwolf everyone else in soilwork pays theirs I’m sure. Don’t get me wrong because I love megadave but you can’t see him being allowed to do even half the stuff he did with SW in MD. I think it’s a total shame but I’m happy to be proved wrong by an album full of ‘Pittsburg syndrome’s’ 😜
@@Goldie1977 the guys in Soilwork moat likely have day jobs when they aren't on tour.. Megadeth sells out arenas and Soilwork plays clubs, thats pretty big pay bump between the two. Maybe all I'm getting at is most bands haven't played any shows/tours in almost 2 years you've gotta be in one of the top tier bands (Metallica, Megadeth, Slipknot etc) to realistically have that much time off and not need some extra source of income.
@@the6ig6adwolf yes i totally understand what you are saying. David from soilwork is a Dr. Twelve foot Ninja all have day jobs etc etc. My point is on a musical level he is wasted in Megadeth a band I love and have been into for 30 + years but as a drummer I don’t see how he can anywhere near as creative as he was in soilwork. Gotta keep the wolves from the door etc
That's not how they do it. You used your vocal cords. For guttural vocals you use everything in your throat except vocal chords. It's more like the American "R" but much more powerful. It's basically just muscle training. It needs many years to do this correctly without damaging you vocal cords
I love him, but I will never enjoy him in Megadeth, I've been listening to him with Soilwork for twelve years, and from what I've seen of Megadeth it feels like watching an Olympic sprinter just randomly stop and start playing golf in his prime.
All hail the Dirk! His contributions to Devin Townsend Project's Deconstruction is pure insanity!
Dirk Verbeuren is why the Dirk Blast is called the Dirk Blast :D
Yeah I am wondering if Garret knows that?

Dirk was my drum teacher in 2003 when i was at the m.a.i. Music school. So a great drummer and so simple guy
The “Dirk blast” is named after this guy…
Also, their replacement after Dirk left is a Danish guy Bastian Thusgaard. He got loads of drum playthrough videos to watch too. A great guy as well!
He does his signature "Dirk Blast" on Devin Townsend's song "Juular" as well.
He is a VERY musical metal drummer, you hit it right in the center man
Dirk is a straight up beast.
Thanks for doing this Garret. Soilwork has a special place in my heart. 🤘
Dirk is one of my favorite drummers on the planet. Check out the stuff he did in sybreed crazy stuff on drums 🤘🥁😎
Its performance in Scarve is even better !
My favorite drummer!!!! You picked a great song!
Dude I'd love to see you react to Adam Janzi from VOLA. He has a bunch of songs with drum playthrough and he's an absolute beast
I know it's been a little over a month but I have to say it again. It's so good to have you back.
Huge fan of Dirk. Definitely a drummer I draw inspiration from. Thank you for this awesome content!
The first time I heard about Dirk, was in Scarve and Phazm. A top notch drummer
Thank you so much for reviewing Dirk Verbeuren...my favorite metal drummer!!! I always greatly look forward to your videos!!!
Hell yeah! Dynamic off of Antares is some of my favorite Dirk drumming. That shrink and grow section is sooo fucking good.

I see JazzDad upload, I click! Always good to see your content again.
Glad to see you back doing these herr Miller.
At last some Dirk stuff! :)
You should check is work with Scarve 15-20 years ago, one of the best french metal band ever, Irradiant is a masterpiece!
That would be awesome indeed!
Scarve is criminally underrated.
@@hititwithit Their "next" album is criminally delayed.
GLAD TO SEE YOU BACK! 💯💯💯
Welcome back homie! I hope you are doing well and the fam and boys are safe!!
Thanks Dan!
Soilwork!! Soilwork is such an underrated band, and deserves so much more attention. You should check out "Tongues" by Soilwork. It's super sick.
For a future reaction video you should definitely do Computers by Clown Core or Overtime (live band sesh) by Knower. Either's fine since it's Louis Cole drumming on both. Guys a beast!
Some of these cymbal passages got me watching the MGLA reaction you did again.
Oh it's gone :(

This dude has played in everythiiiiing....
Just this morning I tried to play the drums along to a SoilWork song and it was a complete shitshow on my part. This guy is the truth.
Soilwork The Panic Broadcast has some good tracks
El Estepario Siberiano next please 😁
Good hands. Yes indeed!
A lot of people talk about his work with Soilwork, but his work with Scarve and Aborted is phenomenal as well.

Dirk is one of the OGs, and anybody who thinks differently hasn‘t listened to Devin Townsend’s Deconstruction.
BTW listen to Deconstruction
Any plans to see Meshuggah in LA this March?!
I love the sound of Mein MB20's...
React to Matt Garstka’s play through of Monomyth!
What about Mgla - Exercice in futility V drum cam ? Lot of cymbals work, bet youll like it :)

yo u might like Matt Garstka's playthrough of monomyth, animals as leaders most recent single. INSANE
Dirk's grind stuff with Bent Sea is insane. Check it out!
Garret growlssss
you need to react to Chris Turner - Triggered featuring Thomas Lang

dude you should do AUSTIN ARCHY from LORNA SHORE. dude plays some crazy blasts and speed triggers?...)
Levitation 21 - Tigran Hamasyan (Drums session)
Enough said
Please react to Matt Garstka’s playthrough of Monomyth, I liked all of your videos 🤓

Lesson learned lol

Eyyyyyyyy first
3:50
you're a human first
a drummer second
would you teach your kid to slump when playing the drums?
is that the example you want to set?
I really admire the technique and athleticism of metal drummers, but the music is not very musical to me.
