@@sharlainjapan they are called university potatoes because the sweet potatoes were filling and cheap, they became a popular snack at universities in Tokyo during the early 1900s.
i can't wait to be able to visit Japan, i am a photographer and i really want to take so many amazng photos , but i am in love with japan and everything about it's culture. also, i LOVE your Jumper, where can i find one?
The 雪塩 is from my home town Miyakojima in Okinawa! it’s super powdery and known for the purity and mineral content. You can find them in normal supermarkets all over Japan, but they seem to be struggling from the lack of tourists. If ya’ll have a dime to spare, consider picking up a bag (or some treats) and support a small business:)
I can see how discussions must go before these trips lol Sharla: "Hey, you wanna come to this cool new place with me? It's got awesome stuff I've never seen before!" Collaborator: "You just want to go because there's a pokemon manhole there, don't you?" Sharla: "... maybe"
the video ended too soon!!!! LOL This was such a wonderful video to wake up to! Omg so much fun. I cannot stop thinking about the apples in your last video! You are giving me so many places I want to visit if I ever get a chance to go there one day! I'm especially interested in North Japan so it's fun getting to see you show us some of their highlights!!
Yeah I agree so many interesting places in Japan other than the most popular places there. Yeah the Apple video was interesting loved the process how they do its
The old owner in the izakaya was so cute! Bless him, he seems to love what he does too. I love outside onsens, they always look gorgeous, my biggest regret was not going to an onsen when I went over in 2019. Also, those Pokemon plushies? That wingull plushie had NO RIGHT being that ADORABLE
Super cute video, love the Pokémon park! Thank you for the agedashi tofu recipe link, I love having it at restaurants but never tried making it before. Those back massager always remind me of a British comedy called Black Books where Bill Bailey pretends to be a robot using one!
Thank you so much for linking the Agedashi recipie!!! It's my favorite dish, but it's pretty expensive to get in a restaurant where I live. I can't wait to make it at home 😍
I’m so happy I watch your videos. I’m disabled and poor on money. I’d never be able to go to Japan. I wish I could have someone send me snacks to try from there.
Daigaku Imo literally means “college potato.” The name comes from the fact that the dish was sold and popular among people in college areas in Tokyo in the early 1900s.
From what I was able to find, the "university potatoes" are currently sold at university festivals around Japan. They were originally sold as an inexpensive snack for cash strapped college students. They originate in Chinese cuisine.
I didn't know Chancey's name was Lucky in Japanese. I've always found their name to be kind of odd, since the Pokedex just says how rare they are and they bring happiness, but I guess you're _Lucky_ to have a _Chancey_ at catching one.
I hate how they call vaporeon there -.- Umbreon name despite how I do not like that pokemon, its japanese name is acceptable And espeon name is just horrible Glaceon had the same name if I remember well??
I guess the pokemon manhole hunt continues! The pokemon park looks so cute!! The big chansey looks really fun to go up on and I guess yeah, it's for kids so everything is too small for adults. There should be ones for grownups cause we love pokemon, too. XD The cat-related items are adorable!!
Definitely on my bucket list now!! I literally just finished binge watching your videos all of them! I wish I could sit on the floor and be able to get up because some of these places look really awesome.
I'm not into Pokémon at all YET THAT PARK WAS FUN, FUNNY AND You guys were Hysterical! 🤣😂🤣🤍🧡🤍 The Area looks neat and the Onsen looks very nice. The 120°F water aside. 😳😆😂
I agree on the tofu. It has a bad reputation in the west, but good quality tofu prepared right is SO good. You do not have to be a vegetarian to enjoy tofu. 💞
I was expecting a theme park and then it was that adorable little park, which is honestly better. I couldn't stop laughing at Sharla inside that one shaking and then trying to get out of it 🤣 I think I just woke up my neighbors laughing.
Sharla and the Chansey made my day :) I'm surprised that it took this long for Japan to have a park dedicated only to Pokemon. I absolutely loved the hotel you were staying at had a picture of The Real Ghostbusters :)
Stay forever young Sharla! I discovered your videos only a year ago and they are some of my UA-cam favorites. I love seeing all your adventures and hope you (plus friends & family) are doing well. 💖
Man oh man... it is so breathtakingly beautiful there. It's not nice to feel jealous, but I can't helppp itttt!!! 😂❤ Thank you for sharing! Oh, and I hope you and Taylor get to visit soon so you can meet the new baby!
I'm really glad I decided to watch both videos after seeing one side of the story, it's really interesting to see what each of you decided to keep in the final edit.
Hello. thanks, was a useful and informative video. quite glad, that Fukushima seems to have recovered from the tsunami,. also, saw the recent earthquake video by Chris, today Sunday morning. reminds me that, pluto is not a planet. Best wishes, with travels, involving towel day (May 25th). OK, bye.
also, thought that you would buy the blueberry jam. myself, ate a freshly made blueberry cupcake once, in usa, about 12 years ago. And remember, that it was quite delicious. OK, bye.
I wish the united states had pokemon themed attractions…yeah, we have a Pokemon Center in NYC, but thats really IT. This is a pokemon world now, people LOVE IT and it isnt going anywhere, just embrace it 🥰. Lol 😂
The Pokémon park alone is reason enough for me to go to Japan! Love your videos Sharla! So glad you had fun. Thanks for bringing us along on your adventure!
I never used to like Tofu until a friend of mine introduced me to Adegashi Tofu. It's such a great introduction to Tofu and sometimes i do make it at home. Nothing beats the restaurant ones though.
I started watching Emma's video on a laptop, came home, opened a browser on the desktop, click on "pokemon park," and say "Oh, this is Sharla's channel," I watched both of them
This was so much fun to see! It looks like you two had a really great trip. The Pokemon park was adorable. The only thing I noticed was that it was a park celebrating pink Pokemon, and I didn't see Jigglypuff, though they did have the preevolution baby Igglybuff. Plus, Jugglypuff does get a decent amount of attention, and you need to give time to all of them, so I can't really complain. Jigglypuff's just my favorite. Igglybuff was there at least. Anyway, it's really cool that that area has so much Pokemon theming and that more Pokemon parks are on the way. Side Note: Yea it was mean of them to leave poor Lickitung out of the plushy group :( I just heard about the earthquake and saw that your house got messed up. I'm sorry you have to deal with that now, but I'm happy you and the kitty are okay. Take care of yourself.
UA-cam just recommended your videos, and I have to say I love that they are kinda chill, not to much music, but when it fits very nice. Perfekt to watch and learn something or see new places
I just watched Emma's version.. and it is nice to notice, which points are chosen from the same day. It's like in the game, where you play different character in the same day. Funny how Ghost Buster appears. Do not run in the washing space :-) Foot massage looks interesting! Living my best life :-)
Looked like such a fun trip! Thanks for bringing us along :) i was just thinking ..living in Japan would probably be annoying for anyone who hates Pokemon ahah, they're literally everywhere :D
Very enjoyable video of your visit with Emma. The two of you have somewhat similar styles of capturing your visit and it is interesting to compare how the two of you saw things just a little differently, even when going to same places together. I especially liked your inclusion of the recipe for fried tofu and the additional information (chapters) to the video. Your approach is just a bit more narrative and fact driven than Emma's and I like that you focus a little more on the architecture, context, sequence... more like a travel log. Thanks for keeping your camera going during the visit to the shrine and the private bath. 7:15 "This is so weird." looking down the foreboding tunnel to the baths. 10:25 "OK, I'm going to try the creepy back massager now... oh !" 16:39 *singing* "Please don't be super hot... Hi Sharla! Amazing video as always 🥰 I wanted to ask, I was wondering what happens with Maro when you go away for a night or two? ✨🐱
Looks amazing :0
Pokemon manhole hype! You made it sound like the last video was going to be the end
Amazing! Thank You for this video
Such a cool adventure. 👍😊👏🇨🇦
is the Super Mario themed amusement park open yet?
i saw some clips and looks interesting

get ready.. this video bout to blow the f up
This place is amazing, but you know if this was in America it would get vandalized within the first week.
Any idea what those massagers would generally cost?
Good question! This one was priced at 30,000 yen ;)

A lot of Gen1 pokemon's japanese names are basically just english words haha. For example, Moltres is Fire, Zapdos is Thunder, Articuno is Freezer.
