Rob I used this method to redo my blade on the Mark2 in O1 I got rid of the chips. I got the DMT in coarse and extra coarse and a fine one then I used the micro mesh strops you're a master at this ! Thank you for the advice
A masterclass in sharpening. Thanks for that. I need to do my wee puuko as I dinked the blade with the end of a strap and took out a tiny chip. I nearly cried. Cheers
6"X2" is big enough for utility knife sharpening and you can make a smaller double sided set for field use. I also carry some in my carving kit with my round strop for sharpening hook knives. It's versatile stuff.
Great vid! I never really strop my scandi knives hard for fear of convexing them. Beautiful job. Nice stones, they put my natural arkansas to shame. #Respectable
Great vid mate,I use DMT a lot myself,I even sell them because I know the Dutch importer personally, can’t beat them especially for scandi grind knives, great tip about the eraser tough, didn’t know that😱
It takes me a quite few hours to do that (sometimes around 4-6) but the stones I am using are small, 1 inch by 6 inches and I go through more stones/grids. Also, I do the strokes more slowly as I am obsessed about keeping the grind line as crisp as possible. I guess with more practice strokes could get faster. But the edge comes out hair whittling sharp and mirror polished at the end, which I think worth it. Nothing feels better than using a VERY sharp knife. I use Naniwa Chosera stones for anything does not have vanadium carbide in it, or else I use the CBN and Diamond stones.

Nice result. Just ordered the 10" EF/F and C/EC plates yesterday. I like the idea of being able to finish on the micro mesh, much better than spending another $75 on a whetstone. Think CBN emulsion on strop would achieve similar results? Or is is more of an in-between step? Looks like this micro mesh may be similar to something like 3M lapping sheets. Havent tried the 3M stuff either, but seems like it may be a good, very similar, option. Not sure what the micro mesh is using for abrasive, but the 3M is aluminum oxide.
What is the reason for not putting a choil on a knife blade? Is it aesthetic preference or is there any other reason not to have it? I can only see benefits, even if it's just a small one. What is your thoughts on this RobEvans?
