Bishop was usually the singer, but he's the guitar player in this song. Bishop let band member Mickey Thompson sing this song for the band, and it was a good decision.
Mickey Thomas not Thompson 😊
It's a great song and performance
Besides being an amazing guitar player, Elvin Bishop studied physics at the University of Chicago
@AnthonyL0401 What was the gals name. I've never heard her discussed.
@@AnthonyL0401 Mickey Thompson is the tire guy.
All I can say is…how very blessed we all were to have grown up in the 70’s…we had it ALL…no autotone …just pure talent 👍❤️❤️
AND if you screwed up you did the whole song over again.
Mickey Thomas one of the greatest voices who went on to join Jefferson Starship. He is credited with saving Jefferson Starship.
He sings effortlessly, what a talent. ❤🎶
A person commented on another of this same video. He said his band used to open for Elvin Bishop when this was popular. He called Mickey Thomas's voice "bulletproof". He was in awe of it, and he heard it live quite a bit back then.
Most songs from the before times, were about love in one way or another.
Mickey Thomas, he went on to join Jefferson Starship, is the singer and his voice is legendary.
I was around 10 when this came out and I remember wanting my hair to look like his. My Mom wouldn't let me grow it out that long. My life was crushed at 10 yrs old.
No one compliments the lady singer for her voice. She was Great
Her name is Reni Simon ... she sounds like Ann Wilson if you look up her singing lead vocals (see Reni Simon Original Omega, on youtube)
You enjoyed every second of this. It was so cool to watch a young person fall in love with this song. I was a teenager when it first came on the radio, and the first time I heard it I was thrilled too.
As Charlie Daniels sang, “Elvin Bishop sittin on a bale of hay, he ain’t good lookin but he sure can play”!
I never get tired of hearing this! Awesome!
Elvin Bishop is the guitarist and Mickey Thomas sang. I saw this live at The Aquarius in Seattle in 1976, they saved it for last and brought the house down. Elvin Bishop was a member of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and then formed his own band and toured for decades, one of Americas' best guitarists. Check out Joe Cocker live at Woodstock doing The Beatles song "With a Little Help from My Friends", it's next level. You have a good personality, new sub, thumbs up! God Bless you!
I saw him with the great Paul Butterfield at the Monterey Pop Fest. What a show.
The 70s produced the best music ever.
When music was actually music and the singer's voice was an instrument ✌️
That sound you can’t identify is Elvin’s guitar. He’s still playing world wide, all blues now.
Fire the way you reviewed it. It became a major hit instantly. Every teen knew this song back in the day.
I'm so glad you enjoyed Micky Thomas & Elvin Bishop. It's my favorite song. It became "our song" when my late husband and fell in love and got married. I ❤️ it.
Love this song! Elvin Bishop is not the singer ! Guitar solo is Elvin Bishop! An amazing performer!
Mickey Thomas singing.
Mickey Thompson from Cairo Georgia is singing. He was recruited by a black performer to do some vocal work. His influences were blues and gospel. This was a dead song that did not get recorded till he was introduced to Bishop and they recorded the song with him singing. Thompson went on the be the front man for Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship.
Mickey Thomas's voice made this a Major Hit topping Charts all over!
You will not find music like this today. The 70's were defined by musical talent, singers, musicians, writers.
The 70's music was inspired by the 60's.
X out disco and i will agree with you
Yo ! Young fella, you have been picking some of the greatest music ever. This 70 yr old man loves it,btw this dude has got pipes for days!
First of all, I want to thank you for the shoutout. I loved watching you and how much you loved this song. It gave me joy. Just so you know, the guitarist is actually Elvin Bishop. He asked his backup singer, Mickey Thomas to sing the lead vocals in order to do the song justice. And Mickey DELIVERED! I love his voice on this! Great vocals ! He later went on to be the lead singer of Jefferson Airship and probably their best song is one called, JANE. I love him singing this, tho, the best.
So now I’d like to ask you to react to a singer who played many of the same venues as Jimi Hendrix. And like Hendrix, she also died young of a drug overdose. She has one of the most distinguishable voices and makes you FEEL the words she’s singing That would be Janis Joplin. Try listening to her song CRYBABY. Probably best just to react to her recorded version to start. Thanks…..
Janis was absolutely amazing.
One of the greatest voices in rock
that sound is the guitar with a fun effect. layers baby. people playing instruments stacking sounds that unite at the core.
Elvin is the guitarist. Mickey Thomas is the backup singer who performs the lead vocals on this song.
Mickey is also known for tunes like Jane, when he was with Jefferson Starship.
Actually, it’s Mickey Thomas on lead vocals. Elvin Bishop is the guitarist in the brown suit. 🥰🎶
Funny how many people that think Mickey Thomas is Elvin Bishop. Love, love, love this some since the day it released. And Mickey Thomas is sooo handsome!!
Third vote for *Baby Come Back* by *Player* 🔥
Elvin B. Wrote the song and played the guitar. The guys singing was actually a background singer for the band and Elvin ask him to perform this song cuz he has some chops!!!! The singer actually went on to stardom in the band Jefferson Starship.
Mickey Thomas was the lead singer on this song. He was a part of Elvin Bishop's band at the time. He went on to show off his vocal chops with Jefferson Starship -- providing the ridiculous vocals in their song, "Jane". You should check THAT one out if you think Mickey's amazing on this one!
He can sing for sure ❤
Excellent reaction! Shon, you have the infectious charisma of an A list movie star. Natural on-screen talent combined with deep passion and sharp intellect. Thanks for all of the dedication and positive vibes that you put into your channel.
I call him “ The Naked Reactor”!❤
Once again check out Baby come back by Player
I was 13 when this song came out have loved it all my life! So glad you're enjoying it the 70's were the SHIT!!!
This song came out when I was in late elementary school. Loved it then and still love it now.
Awesome reaction!! This is such a great song. I love it when the drum drops that beat! If you like love songs, you need to listen to "The Air That I Breathe" by The Hollies!
The Hollies did have a lot of great songs. Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress was one of my favorites, but "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" is definitely my favorite.
@@evangelina3541 yes! 👍 You beat me to responding the exact same thought! Lol
Elvin Bishop guitar 🎸 player 🎸 wrote this but didn't think is gravelly voice suited the song, so he had backup singer Mickey Thomas sing it. Love how Mickey just walks away at the end. Elvin grew up in Tulsa OK.
A killer song by Elvin Bishop, the live version of Juke Joint Jump.
Micky Thomas is the singer. Listen to him sing “Jane” with Jefferson Starship. I think the group name was Elvin Bishop.
Great reaction!!! Definitely a lot of soul in this one.
🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Love your reaction ♥️ 👏👏👏
Elvin Bishop is the guitarist
If you want to see another great performance by
Elvin Bishop tried the video with
>George
Thorogood <
And Elvin
>> LIVE.
Mickey Thomas is singing, the guy in the yellow suit is Elvin Bishop!
Elvin was a great guitarist.
There are some videos of Elvin and George Thorogood. (One Burbon, One Scotch, and one Beer) shows off his playing. Take a listen to that
Dude, thank you for the nostalgia.I almost forgot you was reacting to this too..Thanks, man.
That flute sound you hear brah, is just the organ. They make a lot of sounds. Every band from these ole blues to Rock & then NWA, rap, anyone & everyone does it. But now Elvin Bishop like my man there says was the Guitar player. He was a blues player & he wrote this & had Mickey Thomas sing it. I DON'T KNOW IF YOU KNOW IT BUT MICKEY THOMAS WAS THE LEAD SINGER IN THE GROUP CALLED ( STARSHIP ). THEY HAD A BIG HIT YOU HEAR EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE ,THIS SONG BEING USED IN COMMERCIALS NOW & THEN. (( WE BUILT THIS CITY ))
Sad Eyes by Robert John..... I love that you are delving into the 70's
Thanks for the great reaction. I saw this band perform this song February 1977 at Disney World and saw Thomas again in 82-83ish with Starship. Man I'm getting old.
This is a great song! Thanks for bringing back the memories
I'm with you..this entire song, musicians, Elvin Bishop's guitar solo & the vocals were on fire in this performance. Elvin Bishop is still touring & so is Mickey Thompson on tour with Starship. Here's 2 brothers & their band you're going love, altho it's not a love song, "Tobacco Road" done by Edgar & Johnny Winters is also 🔥 ua-cam.com/video/af0rV6dli_o/v-deo.html
The source of the "flute" is a guitar through a volume pedal (specifically, the guy with the white stetson hat). The player rocks his foot back and forth on the pedal to increase and decrease the volume and in this case he is removing the sound of the pick hitting the strings, creating that softer, airy tone.
The guy going crazy on the guitar is Elvin Bishop. The singer is another band member named Mickey Thomas.
Singer is from ga the young lady signing backup passed at an early age. She was from the north east
Then I request "Baby come back" by Player for you. ❤️✌️
My FAVORITE reaction video... EVER!!
Shon, you are digging this because Elvin is an incredible blues guitarist and Mickey Thomas learned to sing in gospel groups. This performance is just oozing with soul. Its off the damn charts.
Love your reaction! Just subscribed.
I just love your passion. Keeps me coming back over and over. Honestly, its going to take you some time to become a really excellent reviewer and understand all the nuances.....but your laugh and enthusiasm can not be beat!
Another awesome reaction...
This Shon dude got the music in him! Lovin' your reactions and musical taste.
If you like this one try reacting to The Marshall Tucker Band "Can't You See".
Great reaction to this great song!
This is one of my favorites. Another great love song is "I love you" by the Climax Blues Band
If you like this you need to do Player - Baby Come Back. Another 70s classic. Trust me, you will REALLY REALLY love it brotha! 💯
I am so glad you enjoyed this song, i love it. ALVIN BISHOP, LEAD GUITAR WROTE IT, but felt Mickey Thomas could really bring the fire to singing it. And did he ever. I was also impressed that the were live on the MIDNIGHT SPECIAL. A COUPLE different areas in the song that i felt a chill, it was so intense
The big guy with the suit is Elvin Bishop. That awesome singer is Mickey Thomas, now in Jefferson Starship. Performing in Vegas! YEP!
Loved your reaction to one of my all time favorite songs! I subscribed.
If you haven't already, you should definitely check out the song "Cult of Personality" by the band, Living Colour. You won't be disappointed.
Except in their outfits... not even "cool" for the 90s. 😅
Mickey Thomas on vocals who also sang with Jefferson Starship/Starship. Elvin is the dude in brown playing the guitar!
Dude, Elvin is the guitarist with the red guitar that wrote it. Mackey Thomas is the singer.
You need to dive into the Bob Seger rabbit hole: "Turn the Page", "Roll Me Away", "Main Street", "Fire Lake", "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man", many, many, many more ...
Thank God he took up choir in high school when you were a nerd. What a gift to all of us.
Good music has no boundaries
great reaction!!!! keep the mind and ears open friend. love surprise around every corner
Elvin bishop is lead guitar and author of song
The 60’s and 70’s had all the talent.
Elvin Bishop is actually the Guitar player but he did vocals most of the time, the Guy singing this is Mickey Thompson a good friend of Elvin.
Great reaction!!! ❤❤❤️✌️
Lead singer is Mickey Thomas born and raised in Cairo, Georgia. Bishop is the lead guitar
Elvin played guitar. Mickey Thomas is the singer. He's the singer on Jane for Jefferson Starship, too.
Music of my generation. None better.
If you want to hear some good guitar playing, check out "Black Betty" from Ram Jam, but make sure it's the one where they are playing in a backyard. Here is a link.
ua-cam.com/video/I_2D8Eo15wE/v-deo.html
That sounds you're referring to is coming from the guitar using an effect pedal called a volume control pedal.
My exact favorite part too!!!
When this was a huge hit, everyone (including the radio stations) thought it was actually Elvin Bishop singing.... the Radio DJ's should have made it known to the music listeners that the singer was actually Mickey Thomas, even though it's released as 'Elvin Bishop'.... unless of course the DJ's themselves were fooled too.
At this time Alvin is the guitar player and At this time Micky Thomas was a back up singer and then his career kicked off and is now the voice of Jefferson Starship
I was at that concert. It was great.
I think the full name of his group is Elvin Bishop and the 4 Pawns 😜
Bro you are a great music story teller
Love your reaction man
The drums!
Mickey Thomas is singing Alvin Bishop wrote it and played guitar
Elaine Bishop is the guitar player
Mickeey thomas is singing and elvin bishop is in the briwn suit playing lead guitar
Just discovered you and throughly enjoy. Elvin is from Tulsa OK. There is another gentleman from Tulsa you should try if your into layer back Rock, JJ Cale is under appreciated but he had a major impact on music in the seventies . Check out crazy mama, Cajun moon, magnolia..
The intro sound you like is the guy playing the white guitar with his foot on the Wa-wa pedal, which distorts the sound.
Elvin is the guitarist
Micky Thomas, Jefferson Starship (as in Jefferson Airship fame, formerly)
Love Mickie Thomas ❤
I LOVE that you are so into the musicianship. I am a bass player and the whole purpose is to make you happy, see women's asses shake left and right, and let you go home with a smile on your face after a two hour escape from the world. You are a true music fan.
Buddy Holly story at the Appolo theater historic first white entertainment at APPOLO THEATER.
Elvis just had the band..he played lead...Hickey Thomas was the singer..
Bishop is the crazy-looking guerilla gee-tar-ist wearing a sheriff's badge from the planet of the "Did you just say Yutes"
