    I love how i'm finding this years later for running tech tips, and realize that I was in that show! Thanks so much for running the sound for Hunchback!!!

    Thanks for this. Did a show last summer and wish I’d thought of the ensemble and principle busses. I also am slapping my forehead because I didn’t think to sidechain the vox into a compressor on the music even though it’s something I so frequently do in studio work.

      Charlie Hoyt thank you! I’m happy some of this helped you! Mixing theater can be some of the most challenging work yet what a payoff!

    I've been doing so much m32/x32 work recently, its nice to look at m7cl in a video cause thats the first board I ever worked on. My community college is probably gonna replace it with a tf5 soon but I'd still love to get on it a few more times before they do.

      Thanks for the comment! I always enjoyed the fader layout of the m7. I could see everything so easily. Best to you on your next show!

    Thanks for the tips! Setting the ensemble instead of snapshotting every scene seems like the perfect technique for what im doing. I love it!

    Enjoyed top about compressor on the music to stay below the vocals . Just finished a show and that was one of my complaints to try and improve for next time.

    • @NicholasRadina

      Wonderful! Yes, it can be tricky! Additionally, making a broad EQ cut from 2-6k on the "music" can help the actors pop through. Let us know how it worked for your next show!

      Thanks! For these shows, usually 1 or 2 days. Maybe 1 real chance at running the entire show before opening night. Very tight!

    What’s the Routing for your microphone groups. I’m interested to set mine up the same way. Are your stereo and mono on matrix’s?

    I'm thinking of doing this when I leave school (I'm leaning towards sound for theater, concerts, basically live performances.) Do you have any tips on it (like what school to go to, how to get a job, etc)

      Might not apply to you now but you can join your local IATSE union. Let them know that you’re experienced/interested in sound and you’ll start getting mixing gigs.

    Hey Nicholas, what exactly is the Wireless Workbench app for? Does it let you troubleshoot RF problems as they occur? Reason asking is I've recently worked a local high school that has 23 Sennheiser G3 evolution wireless mics, and quite a few of them were peaking at the board even with the transmitters off! So i spent a few hours scanning for fresh clean frequencies. Even after getting clean frequencies, I STILL had pops and sharp static noises from some of the actors's mics which absolutely SUCKED because it could be heard during the opening night. Why do wireless mic systems such as the Sennheiser NOT mute any static or pop noises BEFORE they can be heard through the PA?? I'm very much interested in knowing how to combat this type of situation. Thanks!

    • @NicholasRadina
      @NicholasRadina  4 роки тому +3

      Hi! Thanks for your question! In a nutshell, scanning with one wireless mic and choosing whatever it returns is generally safe. YET, when adding a second mic/transmitting freq things get more complicated. Letting computers do what they do best and handle the math required to calculate compatible frequencies that wil not interfere with one another is essential. With you application, you were probably experiencing intermod issues. Using softare such as WWB will help you mitigate these issues. I'm happy to take a look at your frequencies to try and help you. Do you mix the actors line by line on their channels or just on the groups?

    • @NicholasRadina
      @NicholasRadina  2 роки тому

      Hi Rob! Line by line on the actor channels...unless a complicated move and I may go to groups. Really depends on the show. With not much time to rehearse, this gives me the best chance at success! Thanks for watching!
