- Ok greasers in this video I explain what a poser is, how not to be one and how to help others out that are starting off. Don't be so quick to throw around the word poser instead educate and elevate. If your new to the greaser style this one is for you!

A pet peeve of mine is when people assume you're a poser because you put your own twist on the style.

I wear my leather jacket with pins and patches with punk, metal, and other non greaser music bands. I don't think I'm a poser. I do listen to rockabilly.
Sunshine the Greaser Yeah that’s how different styles evolved from people putting there own twist on different looks maybe because they didn’t have the money or certain things available to them or whatever so they integrate different elements.
Question, am I a poser? I don’t dress the style every day but I do take interest in Greaser culture.

It was a big thing when I used to skateboard. Other skaters would call guys posers and it would discourage guys from skating. Which is the wrong thing to do. Good points madman
So true! Even as a 25 going on 26 year old, as my grandpa who was ashamed to admit he was a greaser, always told me, "you're never too old to learn". So I always live by that.

Guys heres a good way to spot a poser if some one calls you a poser for warring a bomber jacket instead of a biker type jacket.
Necklaces rings I look more like a modern greaser then a traditional in my opinion but ya let’s just say I got unlucky with my hair and stuck with a fucking baby face 😒
people don't get it's any kind of leather coat or jacket, bomber, biker, blazer, it can even be flannel or denim, or no jacket at all, people are so judgmental because of dumbass movies like Grease

Another good vid, man. Words of wisdom. What's almost as bad as the poser is the "elitist" that forces the rules on everyone: you HAVE to wear Levis, only use Murray's, etc. For those special people, the magic word is "acceptance". Accept the fact that even though the gear isn't authentic, they at least embrace the culture.
Wise words Mad Man. We all start somewhere when we get into the scene, whether it be rockabilly, ska, ted, goth, skin, punk, or mod. Some of us get into it early, when we were in high school, some of us get into it when we get older and wiser, and our tastes and views change with maturity. Building people up and supporting them in their journey is the best way to go about it. Teaching and mentoring someone about non-conformism, rebelling against the status quo, and individualism are important lessons in life; now join that with a love of alternative music, alternative style, attention to detail, and being true to a lifestyle 100%, that's how we all get into it. The basic foundation is there, and we look, listen and learn and slowly develop into that subculture to where it becomes you.

I've been called a hipster a lot for not being a normal square. I grew up in Colorado, so this place is full of Portland folks and now a lot of California folks (due to pot, yippee whatever I'm straight edge). In a way, hipsters stole a lot of the looks (sailor jerry tattoos, flannel, pompadours) and it's a shame it's bunched together (people who don't know about rockabilly just bunch it as hipster). I grew up in the hot rod scene so plenty of OGs (Original greasers!) had grown beards over the years because it was rebellious in a time where every man was clean shaven. Look at Ed "Big Daddy" Roth, he had a goatee in the 50s and 60s which was pretty different for the time even though he wasn't a greaser, his art is still pretty significant to the culture. Like you, I have some fur on my face (sideburns and a goatee) and I've been called a poser by other greasers and a hipster by non-greasers. I think it's unfair but also rude. I don't have the best face to be clean shaven (the ladies will agree), I have to at least have sideburns and stuff on the chin. I have a fucked up chin from a burn accident,.
Oh yes, another thing that has caused some dickheads to call me a hipster/poser, is my glasses. I wear browline glasses like what James Dean wore. I can't help that I have shitty eyes and I make the best of it to fit my look. Do a video on glasses that greasers can wear! Everyone knows the sunglasses, but not the normal glasses and for the rockabillies who can't afford contacts.
I'm part of this Facebook group called Psychobilly Worldwide and a famous psychobilly musician whom I don't want to name but everyone jerks off to criticized me for being a "fake hipster" despite showing plenty of musical knowledge and also stating my age (16 at the time). Not because I was dumb or because I was a poser, but because I had glasses and a beard.

I can understand about being called a hipster but just remember JD was the original hipster (I wouldn't call him a greaser. He wore more slacks than jeans). Stay loose man
Greasers and hipsters are not the same at all! Greasers do not like hipsters. You make all valid points and know your shit when it comes the style and culture for sure. Shut the idiots down with the facts. I my self have to wear glasses for distance (im not keen on it but..) I sport a beard from time to time, I waer glasses from time to time and I have been on the front lines of the greaser culture. Keep doing what you do cat!
I'm sure glad I know what greasers do and do not do; and I am glad to know what greasers listen to and not listen to. For example: a poser would not know who Muddy Waters was.
Hipsters, Kryptic Art, only go with the flow of ideas. They do not tend to stick with anything long, and they do not know much about what greasers do and listen to. And most of them do not know history of fashion. I've been studying fashion history on my own for over a year, and I know exactly what greasers wear.

I met one guy . me and him talked i find out he was a poser in 7 minutes. I asked him how he does his hair he said idk what its called. I asked how many years he said he was greasing he said 8 years . i looked at his clothes he had red shirt with his black leather jacket then he had skinny jeans and i thought they were boots bc if thr heel they were dress shoes. I tried teaching and he said im the one that needs teaching and then he went to to mess up my hair and thrn i died inside before laying him out completely

Patches can go on the front, back, sleeves it all depends on how you want it to look.

when i started greaseing some of my buddys (that thought that i was a poser) told me do you grease and i said yeah but after i befriended my greaser friends we bring people who grease into our group and some posers see us and when we first talked to them they were really fucking dumb but great video cat

I love the rebel look, and I wear clothes like a rebellious would wear, but I don't grease my hair and I know I am not one(I'm more of a rock n roll guy). Does that still make me a poser ?

I'd like to think that I know a fair amount of my shit (although I'm always willing to be corrected and learn). I tend to lean more towards the psychobilly end of the spectrum because of my punk roots, and I grew up around bikers so I like to incorporate that as well. Thankfully, my Dead Kennedys shirt and long ponytail aren't seen as too egregious by most since I know a fair bit about the traditional style and music and decided to put my own spin on it. I haven't caught the "poser" label yet and I hope it stays that way.

Most people think I'm cool being who i am. Some People ask me how I became who I am and I just respond "I'm not sure. One thing led to another and I ended up on a UA-cam channel called AskGreaser." The next day I came to school and this guy calls me a poser cause tom changed his UA-cam channel name. I told him to get lost, and sure enough, never saw him again. Now I feel bad because he was the only guy willing to even look into the style at my school. Pretty sure he moved. But after watching this video I think this guy falls under madman's term of "stupid". Anyone else?

When I was growing up OG gangster and greaser dress kind the same way and hearing the same music and I like it
I wear a retro moto leather jacket and a lot of other leather jackets, not because I'm trying to be a greaser. Lots of styles are similar. I like your ideas and opinions, but just keep that in mind, sometimes a poser might just be someone rocking a different style that's similar to the greaser one :-)
I’m thirteen but me and my friend want to be greasers however my mom being super strict hates that, but I’m glad I am becoming one cause it’s fun.
I'm interested in properly trying to pull off the greaser style and wanting to learn more about the subculture and style. However as I live in the UK and I know this style originated and is predominantly USA based I don't know where to go to get advice, learn and hang out with others. I’ve always liked greaser stuff when I was little I was absolutely obsessed with crybaby and me and my older sister would not play as the characters but like we were drapes I want to try greasing but I also kind of feel dorky bc I’m like the only kid I’m pretty sure who wants to wear leather jackets grease up my hair I also really want a motorcycle I’ve always liked them and I like the music I also really like the 50's it was cool era not politically but some of the social stuff going on
Do what you want for you bud, lifes to short to care what others think or to care if your the only one in the area greasing. If your the only greaser in town the so be it along as your happy with who YOU are.
some people were thrown into that style because it's all we could afford to wear you no poor white boy clothes. I've had to wear my step dads old work boots. shit had to wear trench coats from the thrift store it's all we had. really just the working class dress. shit I got made fun of I couldn't buy Dr Martin's so I bought combat boots from the army surplus. so punks from nicer hoods tried to fuck wit me an my boys. but when you don't drop hundreds on boots you can buy knuckle dusters and switchblades.

Yep 2011 I started with cuffing up my pants and shirts and using gel, so that's how I started and only problem were shoes I did get called poser but ey I'm still a greaser till today I learned and I keep learning more the ones who called me poser aren't greasers idk why lol but karma's a bitch

Im all late on this video but yeah i had a group of friends who are greasers and i love that style so little by little i was getting into it but as time went by and they were calling me posers and all this bs.
