You can hook up a monitor and the audio stuff via Lightning, and you can read an SSD with an adapter, but you can’t record to an SSD. Have to have a 15 Pro series or later phone with USB-C.
Hi BlackMagic on iPhone 15 pro, can I shoot in 1080p H264 in the same time storing in the SSD drive ? because on iPhone 15 pro apps It is limited to Pro Res.
I’ve connected a Rode mic to the white triple port adaptor. The SSD works only when alone, after connecting also the mic my IPhone 15 doesn’t see the SSD. What can I do?
If you’re connecting the Rode mic via analog that won’t affect the USB ports, so that would be odd and it might be bad. If it’s all USB ports, then guessing you only have one data transfer port that’s working or the other are for charging only.
What am I doing wrong? I tried using an apple hub adapter on the iphone 15 pro max so that I could link a USB Hub that has an as card. However, it says that the phone can not power it?
Very important to stress: the Apple cables are “2” NOT USB 3 data transfer. Was concerned about data to SSD before you introduced the hubs. While you’ve shown very affordable solutions(!), its time to find a rig- or print a container.
Sure. I use one a lot. But having this as an option or B camera is great. Also too you can’t shoot 4K 60 Apple Log without going to an SSD with the native app.
What you have to be careful when using the hub with a microphone and sSD. The audio will pick up robotic signals whenever the SSD is reading or writing. I'm trying to find a fix.
one issue i have is when i have the SSD plugged into the hub, the battery doesn't charge the phone. i also trued it with a regular y-splut usb-c cable and it still doesn't charge the phone. is there any way to overcome this and have it charge the phone at the same time? I tried to put a magsafe power charger on the back, but after a bit the phone got too hot and i got a "system pressure high" warning & it stops recording.
Are you using an “Advanced“ style hub like I showed? The pass-through for charging should work if so. But remember, some ports are for charging and some are for data transfer, but they’re not the same. And yeah, MagSafe can get hot but also so can regular charging, especially if you’re shooting 4K and higher frame rate or in log. The phone definitely heats up.
@@iphoneographers i used the Belkin fast multi-port usb-c hub from your gear list. it seems i should be using the advanced one that you suggested. I just ordered it so will try it out. Thanks!
I have an iPhone 12 pro max and I shoot in the Filmic Pro app with 10 Bit log. I noticed that when I add the footages in premier pro, the videos are lagging really bad even after rendering the videos. Do you think that it’s my laptop that cannot perform the tasks that I am asking it to do or is there something wrong that I am doing. Your advice would be great, thank you.
Premiere doesn’t handle the VFR footage from phones very well, especially on older machines. But rendering should solve that, though make sure you choose to render to ProRes 422 or similar- not HEVC as that really taxes a system. The other options are to do a proxy workflow or transcode the iPhone shots to ProRes.

USB C HUB for iPad Pro 9-in-1 Adapter is work for iphone 14 pro ?
Can’t say I’ve tried that, but maybe with a Lightning adapter and then for some accessories, but not SSD recording. That’s only on the 15 Pro.
But can this setup record 24bit audio? Not just 16bit?
Sure, just depends on what app you’re using.
Hi BlackMagic on iPhone 15 pro, can I shoot in 1080p H264 in the same time storing in the SSD drive ? because on iPhone 15 pro apps It is limited to Pro Res.
Yes you can do h264,h265 or several options for ProRes to an ssd
What camera app are you using ?
Mainly Blackmagic Camera app… ua-cam.com/video/WKDfRsRNjns/v-deo.htmlsi=6MTpwyFVK6vf1qjQ
Is it possible to use USB 2.0 speed for external recording? Highest I will do is ProRes Log in 4K30. Thanks in advance!
You mean via Lightning? If so, no you can’t do that.
@@iphoneographers No, I mean USB C. I want to buy a hub, like you suggested, with a 3.5mm jack, USB C, for charging and a USB A 2.0 port.
Ok sure, the Advanced hub I demo will do that. But it’s USB 3 speed (with USB A and C). Link for it in the video description.
Anyone figured out how to monitor audio as well? Ideally with Bluetooth?
Please tell me about the tripod and ball head.
Believe there’s a link in the description, it’s from smallrig and it’s really great.
@@iphoneographers I've clicked on all the links and there's no information link for those little tripods and ballheads at the start of the video??
@zergwave Oh ok, we’ll take a look. Is it this one you’re looking for? amzn.to/3PZFkqY
@@iphoneographers Oh right. That's it. The link is not in the description. Thanks for the information
What am I doing wrong? I tried using an apple hub adapter on the iphone 15 pro max so that I could link a USB Hub that has an as card. However, it says that the phone can not power it?
Sounds like that particular hub pulls too much wattage.
Sounds like that particular hub pulls too much wattage?
Very important to stress: the Apple cables are “2” NOT USB 3 data transfer.
Was concerned about data to SSD before you introduced the hubs.
While you’ve shown very affordable solutions(!), its time to find a rig- or print a container.
The Pro models are definitely USB 3 speed.
@@iphoneographersbut the supplied cables are not- test them and see!
When you reach a “rig” level and external mic as well as recording log to an external SSD …etc , why not use a real camera like Blackmagic pocket?
Planning to do a shoot with SSD and microphone as well. How bad is the audio? Let me know if you found a workaround for it
Interesting. Haven’t noticed that, but will definitely look (or listen) for it now. Thx
I have a T7 if that helps . It could depend on the ssd but I would definitely look out for it.
@@iphoneographersits an easy fix make sure it’s a high quality usb to headphone adapter.
I cant find my ex. SSD when looking at files?
Make sure you have it formatted in exFAT before connecting. Or APFS.
one issue i have is when i have the SSD plugged into the hub, the battery doesn't charge the phone. i also trued it with a regular y-splut usb-c cable and it still doesn't charge the phone. is there any way to overcome this and have it charge the phone at the same time?
Thanks!
@dispophoto Ok, let me know if it works for you.
… if Heath Robinson designed I phone rigs 😵💫
@@iphoneographers I know how to render a sequence or a video when it on the timeline, but how do you render a video from HEVC to Pro Res? I tried looking for videos on youtube and I can't seem to find any that shows how to do so.
The best way is to transcode it before you use your editing app, so use Adobe Media Encoder for example or Compressor.
@@iphoneographers Thank you so much for your reply. I will definitely try what u said. I am a big fan of your LUTS btw. Purchased some couple months ago
Awesome, thanks!
5:26 just use samsung evo plus micro sd + c type sdcard reader
All of that to shoot high quality pictures and those lenses are filthy😂😂😂
High quality pictures 👍🏻
😮
Buuut how are you *monitoring audio?
