I know I commented here a year ago, but for those curious as to why there’s so many sounds only heard in-game that aren’t found when extracted from the files is because in order to preserve memory for the N64 cartridge, is for SM64’s sound engine to use the many sounds it could only handle in one single cartridge and make different variations of one sound or more or combined into one.
The Boo and Bowser Laugh sample was already debated many times, so I will at least list some sounds that are hardly talked about.
1. Some of the sound effects also use some of the instrument samples.
Like the instrument SFX 9 - 03 at 2:38 which is the Glockenspiel instrument which’s used for several sounds such as the iconic SM64 Gold Coin sound, 1-Up Mushroom get sound, Spinning Heart sound, Goomba alerted by Mario, Goomba, Koopa Troopa or Pokey being stomped, etc.
2. Since SM64 has some sound effects that combine more than one sound, the big example of all the above is the Impact sound effect *(the sound heard in-game when punching the wall, punching an enemy, hitting the ceiling, hitting the map dead end invisible barriers, etc)* is used by three sounds: Cannon Fire sound at 2:30, Cannon Rise sound at 2:26, and the Crystal Rhodes instrument at 1:06
3. Back to what I mentioned about the Yelp sound effect at 2:34. It WAS used in the game, just not the way we hear it here. The Yelp sound was used for lot of sounds such as the Koopa Troopa sounds, normal Goomba dying sound, Big Goomba dying sound, etc. And the Klepto caw sound at 2:35 is used not just for the two sounds that Klepto makes, *BUT IS ALSO USED FOR THE KING BOB-OMB SOUND EFFECTS!!*
I could list more sounds, but this is all I can share on how the sound engine in SM64 works. I give huge shoutout to my friend, @X Dude Awesome on Discord who’s good at recreating the in-game sound effects!
thanks for sharing the info about how some of these sound samples were used, it helps to clear the confusion of the older comments on here, its interesting all of the tricks Nintendo used here to save memory on the game :)
I believe Mario's "Here we GOOOOooo!" Voice clip is also the same sound as the bobomb buddies speaking, but the sound is sped up and distorted in pitch a little?
@@ethanmerrikin1544
Yes exactly.
I can also mention that the Chuckya Dying sound is used by two sounds, being the Thwomp/Whomp grunt pitched a little down to some degree, and Mario’s pain sound pitched several notches up!
Thwomp and Whomp grunt is also used for the Bully grunts in Lethal Lava Land (Bowser In The Lava Sea, and Snowman’s Land for Chilly Bully as well), and used for the Eyerock grunts (Stand Tall On The Four Pillars Boss).
The sound of the Moneybags dying is used by Bowser’s roaring sound, and Dorrie (the giant blue dinosaur in Hazy Maze Cave’s underwater path) and Unagi (the Eel in Jolly Roger Bay) are also used one of Bowser’s sounds!
@@alejandrovelez6358 1st and 3rd paragraphs: Wow, I never knew that, that's very fascinating! The way the SM64 uses sounds is just incredible sound design, especially considering how limited the N64 was, and how good all the music and sound effects are in that game.
2nd paragraph: Lol yeah, I always knew about that, it's not so hard to notice. ;)
Thank you so much for compiling these, I've been looking for sm64 samples for a long time
your welcome :)
man I can recognize so much of the instrument samples. this is crazy, well done
thanks, I'm glad you like it :)
THANK YOU! lol needed like a good handful of these to finish a tune :)
your welcome :)
W I was looking for this for ages thank you
Your welcome :)
1:11 “It’s a box of (orchestral hit)”
its what it sounds like lol
Ah super Mario 64 ONE of the best Mario games
I agree :)
Thank you SO much 😊
your welcome :)
1:51 this sound plays for 1 second during the movie “Fate: Heavens feel 2” I thought I was crazy but I’m right
that's interesting, is there a certain time in the movie it plays?
@@Bentastic64
Around the 50 minute mark, when Sakura is having a dream. The bunny gets off the ground and it uses that sound effect
Thank You So Much!
I hope UA-cam dosen't take this down tho.... :(
your welcome, also I don't see any reason for UA-cam to take this down, there are other videos similar to this so its most unlikely that it would happen
2:27 That might be an unused Mario sound repurposed for the legendary Thwomp.
possibly
Thank you so much for this!!
your welcome :)
2:34 Ive heard that vocal sound effect (taken from a sample cd) is used to make the Koopa Troopa sound. Is that true?
that can be true, as far as I know some of the samples from here sound different compared to in the game either because its pitch is different or the game uses multiple sounds to make one
@@Bentastic64 the majority of these sound effects come from sound ideas ltd, while the instruments come from various keyboards and sample packs
Thanks for the upload
your welcome :)
I like to say that the one that goes "oooooooo~" is a ghost voice, and they sing along with the organs
Goomba Sound Effects still seems to be unknown where they originated from? Same with the Koopa Troopa sounds besides that unused Koopa Troopa Yelp sound effect at 2:34 which was then given to Koopa Troopa in later games and still is today.
some sound effects such as the goomba one are hard to tell where they come from, and the game may play them at a different sample rate than the original files, as well as combining some with others
the koopa Troopa sound comes from a sample cd
Musicos Cinicos doing a 64-bit style for something
idk lol
1:05 thx! I wanted this for my auglur on Ethereal Island stuff!
00:07 My Lecon ----- Jtl | intro
ok
i need only the instruments but in WAV or MP3 what can i do?
please answer
I think the best option to have WAV files of these samples is to use an online converter to get audio files from .AIFF to .WAV, sometime I will do this myself to have as an additional download alongside the AIFF download
Hey, is there any way that you can upload the sound samples for Super Mario Sunshine? I would appreciate it a lot.
somebody else has already made a video about that: ua-cam.com/video/3pMH3ldMJEg/v-deo.html
Thanks a lot!
wheres that one sound effect when you let go of the mario head on the title screen and it goes back to the original form
My favorite sound from Super Mario 64 is the one where he says so long gay Bowser LOL
lol
Which one is the sound of Mario spinning Bowser?
SFX 6 - 04 played at 2:22, but in the game this sound is played on multiple sound channels with different pitches and volumes at the same time for every time mario makes a turn when spinning bowser
Thanks bro
AHA! Thats where NSMB series got the Bah from in 0:07!
yep, from what I know it seemed to have came from this
Hey I can't find the sound of dropping a chuckya/ King bobomb anywhere. Anyone know anything?
If there's a sound from the game you're looking for that's not here it might either be one of the sounds at a different pitch, more than one sound at once, or its from a different source. the sound files used in this video are from the ROM of the game
do you know what sound they use for the voice for sm 64 soundfont videos ?
I'm not sure what soundfont videos to find the similar sounds in, I would quess Course Start - 00 La at 0:07
@@Bentastic64 ok thanks
you can pass them in wav?plis I'm on mobile
sorry for the late reply, but I haven't gotten to converting the audio files from .AIFF to .WAV files yet, but I will eventually and have it as an additional download alongside the AIFF download when I get to it
does anyone have the secret sound effect whenever you would like uncover a star or get all red coins and a star appears
if there's a sound that's related to the game that's not here, it may either come from a different source or doesn't exist. these are all of the sounds that are directly from the game files, or it may sound unfamiliar if the pitch is off.
Where is the sound Play when you open a dialogue box?
I'm not sure which one of these sound files is that sound, it may be played differently In-game than how the file is originally played
@@Bentastic64 ok
do you have the sound effect for when you hit an invisible wall? could really use it
Thanks
your welcome :)
Whatever 1B is, that was always my favorite! ❤
yeah, that sample is often used in the music, so its very recognizable to people who know the soundfont well
@@Bentastic64 Really?? I could only hear it in Bobomb battlefield...
@@ethanmerrikin1544 well, the original game only uses it in a few areas, but I usually hear it often on either Soundfont Remixes or Silvagunner videos
@@Bentastic64 I found out that sound is actually a Korg M1 patch!
0:57 honestly 19 is my favourite.
Ok wheres the sound effect when mario gets a key and it does that sweet music box sound: turudu, turudu, turudu, truuuuuu
that would be considered a song or tune, not just a sound sample, meaning that its made from one or more of the samples at different pitches
do you know what Instrument 29 is called?
I'm not sure, there are a few instruments including that one that don't seem to be used in the game itself
@@Bentastic64 I feel like I have heard it in game before. Thanks for answering though, I really wanna know what it is
3:40
3:47
thank you mario, mario
Where's the swim animation sound?
SFX Water - 02 Swim played at 3:51, but in the game the sound changes pitch every other time its played while mario is swimming
Nice
I'm glad you like it :)
There is a sound I am looking for.
It may be at 2:28 or around there but I'm not sure.
The haunted piano,it sounds off but I saw you said to some other people that the game alters the samples or something
I would think that sound would be one used for the piano, but in game it sounds like its combined with another sound, some of these sound effects are hard to tell where they come from wether its played at a different sample rate or is a part of one
where is the key sound effect without the here we go
that's actually a short song made with some of the sound samples
instrument 30 sounded like among us
it does lol
what sound is instrument 41
it sounds like a flute of some kind
Nice channel
thanks! :)
Was Instrument 21 a Note Block?
Also Instrument 2F was an Sleigh Sound.
and Instruments 2A 2B 2C are Indian Percussions
Where's bully's sound effect?
I'm not exactly sure which one the game uses for the bully, but my guess would be SFX 7 - 0B played at 2:27 except its altered by the game when played
I wish they were spaced out more.
that's something I could've done, but that would've made it more time to make and it would end up being longer video
What is the name of the instrument of #41?
I'm not sure what instrument that sound sample is, my guess is that its some sort of flute
26 is my favorite
that sample is a good one, considering its used in many of the tracks of SM64
Cool
ikr :)
3:48
terrain and water sound effects
@@Bentastic64 I like the metal step sfx
I love this game
same, one of my favorite n64 games :)

la
2F was creepy
since that the pitch of the instruments are set at a certain level (lower than when the game usually plays it), some of them ended up sounding a little creepy
ah ok

instruments - 2F plays at 0:26
Inurstment 2F 💀
