Citation M2 - Impressive runway performance

  • Recently I was fortunate enough to demo Cessna's new Citation M2.
    Beyond the standard demo program, I got to experience something a little different. The factory pilots offered to prove me wrong on my
    claim that a particular airport I often fly to/from was not a suitable
    place to fly a Citation into.
    This is one impressive airplane...

    I love that there is no music, just the sound of the airplane, which I love. (If you want music, mute the sound and play your favorite tune). Awesome video, especially with the inset showing present time progress of the flight.

    Excellent performance and executed. What makes the M2 even more exceptional is that these factory pilots couldn't believe it themselves. This clip should be a promo clip for the M2. Well done sirs!

    And that afternoon, the jet got a brake job.

    • @patricksawyer9779
      @patricksawyer9779 4 роки тому +3

      Not really. The brakes are carbon-carbon, just like an airliner, and are actually somewhat over-engineered for that plane. Combine them with the ground flap setting, and you get the stopping performance you just saw.

      Get one that's a few years old and you'll save yourself a million +. However, you do need to figure on $75k to $100k for maintenance every year and a half or so.

    Awesome there a video here in youtube of a citation 560 I believe is the encore landing and taking off in Blakely Island WA 38WA. runway length only 2200ft there's no doubt in my mind that the M2 can land and take off like a walk in the park

    Very impressed. I've flown in a Mustang, but prefer the extra room and performance of the M2. Time to go look at one seriously now.

      i agree with you. I even like the CJ1 and CJ2 which are still in the ligh jet category. And, you can often get one for less than a newer M2 if you do your due dilligence.

    Impressive performance. I fly SIC in Citations II and V for a large flight school. However, it’s important to remember that this is a sea level airport and while you didn’t mention what the temperature was, I’m sure it was not a hot day?
    We spend a lot of our training time flying at high altitude airports on warm to hot days in the flight simulator. The performance on the II and V under these conditions with a full load is marginal if you lose an engine right after V1. If both motors keep running, it’s ok, but we’re always training with an eye on what kind of performance you can expect if you lose an engine at V1.
    At high altitude airports on a warm to hot day, if you lose an engine on TO you’d better be REALLY proficient at flying the Citation correctly by nailing V2 on the climb out and maintaining runway heading...and all this on instruments...we fly and train in hard IFR 90% of the time.

    Thanks for the video! Incredible performance, even though they may have been less than gross. The pilots 'were in command', the landing approach was low and I bet the approach airspeed was carefully controlled.
    Takeoff too, no complacency..
    I'd want one too...

    So he was 6kt faster POH for the M2 says vref at 98kts was there a little crosswind on the approach? Anyway it was awesome I bet at 98 Vref light load you only use 1000ft since you used 1380ft check out the video cessna citation 560 busting out of short strip for the takeoff and cessna citation V landing on the same runway 2200ft at Blakely Island 38WA 2200ft X 40 ft maybe we have the pleasure to see the M2 land and take off there I bet its doable great video

    Please note this is an island airport so it is at sea level and I did notice the person on the side of the runway wearing a coat.
    I don't think this would be a good idea at a high density altitude..

      Tanks half full (~1600 lbs), 3 adults on board (~550 lbs). Can't remember empty weight of airplane but assume it is ~6800 lbs. So ballpark 9000 lbs. MTOW is 10,700 lbs.
      Nearest wx reporting station is 5 miles away, reported temp 12C.

    While the landing seemed routine enough, I am curious about the take off. What fuel load were they carrying upon take off, and did they have full complement of passengers? These videos can be very deceptive, because we only know what they want to show us.
    I don't believe that aircraft would have jumped off the runway or sped up that fast, if they were fully loaded.

    • @rufusprime99
      @rufusprime99 7 років тому +1

      That was a 1500 ft take off with a 7 second engine run up. It was up off the ground before the 3rd turnoff, lifting off right about where that stand of trees to the right ends. Check it out on Google Earth. Around 1500 ft. Air temp looked cool though. Still 1200 ft of runway left. 6 people and half fuel is probably doable. Give it a 9 second spool up for good measure.

      No, youssof.
      The M2 has a range of about 1550 miles.
      NY to London is 3460 mile.
      You would have to fly from Newfoundland to Greenland to Iceland
      than to London. Each leg would be about 1000 miles.

    During landing i at least thought, you would employ thrust reverse, but nothing. Does she have auto break? Marvellous aircraft!

    • @ArizonaAirspace
      @ArizonaAirspace Рік тому

      All CJs including M2s DO NOT have Thrust Reversers! They only have Ground Flaps which deploys Ground spoilers to assist in slowing the jet. I am PIC typed in CE525 with single pilot Endorsement and I have flown CJs to CJ3+s. I am also PIC Typed in 4 other jets including Premier IAs but I love flying CJs because they are so easy to fly and it’s trailing link landing gear makes every landing look like a 10.

    I noticed that you retracted the flaps immediately after main gear touchdown on the landing rollout. Cessna SOP per the POH???

    • @tbmfun
      @tbmfun  5 років тому

      Not retracting - CJs have a "ground flaps" flap position which you use after touchdown. Flaps move to 60 degrees down, and speedbrakes are deployed. Spoils lift and creates extra drag to help slow down. You can see how low the flaps hang in the bit filmed from the outside.
