  • Primal Branding
Patrick Hanlon is founder and CEO of Thinktopia®, a strategic branding and social engagement group. His books “Primal Branding” and “The Social Code” are in several languages and taught around the world. Mr. Hanlon looks at brands not as logo and website, but as a belief system that attracts others who share those beliefs. This creates a community of believers, advocates, users-a “tribe”.
Mr. Hanlon has been guest speaker at IDEO, NYU, American Marketing Association, Parsons School of Design, FIT, Hyundai, and has written for, and/or been quoted in, Fast Company, Entrepreneur, Advertising Age, as well as on NPR and other online radio shows and podcasts.
His book Primal Branding is mandatory reading within UA-cam, the largest social engagement platform on the planet. He has appeared on CNBC, Fox Business, and takes part in the TV Documentary Series “The Kennedys.”
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

Patrick Hanlon's Primal Branding concept have been a complete game changer for our business and my passion for my work personally. Being in business and having satisfied clients is excellent and necessary, but to create a mission and an identity that everyone involved feels passionate about has made all the difference in the world for me, for our business, and definitely for our clients! His book is a MUST read for just about everyone (not just business owners or marketers). The average consumer can learn a LOT about themselves and why they feel certain ways about certain brands and companies by reading Primal Branding. BIG time eye-opener!

Tim Schmoyer from has been recommending Patrick's book Primal Branding for years. Surprised more people haven't seen this or commented. It's highly underrated.

It all comes down to creating believers about your brand and this is magnificently shown by Patrick Hanlon. I wonder how many years of experience are behind these 14 minutes ... great show!

Probably tons. I wonder his background, but I'll definitely be picking up his book. Would you watch videos if someone made it about his book?

Patrick, thank you. You demonstrate keen knowledge and experience, and I'd wish you'd allow more time for that. As you point out, you're building a brand with me in these moments you speak...but your power of connection wanes when slides have you turn away from me. In fact, you don't need a clicker or slides - just your genuine sincerity standing tall; and don't promise speed as a goal in getting through your presentation. Please take what time you need to help me learn from you - I appreciate the time you've given me. I look forward to seeing you again on TED.

This feels pretty uncanny. Even if organizations are using this 'tool' to build communities with a positive impact, then how is this still not just manipulating people into a belief system (in an almost cult-like way) to buy certain products that they don't need, in order for them to feel a stronger bond with the super narrative of a brand?

Primal branding? More like sheep herding.

    • @jpjay1584
      @jpjay1584 4 роки тому

      exactly!
the decoding of a sheep´s mind.
      but...
sheep can easily break out and run away, and THEN all other sheep do what sheeps do. FOLLOW.
      1. get them, 2. keep them
that is the genius of this theory.

He's a researcher. Charisma isn't part of the brand. Charisma is the opposite of reason and research. Branding needs to consider what to leave out as well as what to put in.
