- Emotions are running high! It’s a highly anticipated day - scanning the ewes to see if they are in lamb and how many lambs to expect. It means so much to me, following on in the footsteps of my dad and continuing with the family history of farming here for generations!

Dale farm is a small farm in the Peak District, Derbyshire . It’s been in the family for 5 generations! So it’s very special to me.

This is the first time I have seen minerals given to sheep this way . I think this is a great way to make absolutely sure your sheep and lambs have enough to give them what they need . The ewes are in great shape . I cant wait to see the lambs ...thanks

Joanna, I'm truly so very pleased for you both with your flock getting a really good result with the scans... wonderful news. Top work with the foot bath and the dosing too. You both did everything so capably and confidently and it all worked like a well-oiled machine. Great example of efficient livestock management. Excellent work.

That was so endearing how you said "Doris does not need to be scanned, but that you guys would do the scan to make her feel part of the group." Too cute. That mineral capsule was so big. Yes the ewes , I felt bad for them having to Swallow the tablets , but we all have to do things for our health that we don’t enjoy .. even humans!!

I am not at all suprised about your scanning results. I have been watching you two with great interest and occasional comment from Australia. You and Nick are constantly walking your paddocks OBSERVING everything. Climate, your sheep, pastures, vermin etc etc. Then if there is a change, you act before you encounter a problem that brings on a setback that affects your percentages or bottom line. And you are willing to change from your Dad's program, depending how the season is shaping up, for example when you moved the hay so the tractor wasn't chopping up the pasture. It s a pleasure watching you guys doing such a good job, you disserve to have more land and more sheep. Dave.

@@DaleFarm one day I would love to come and stay at the campsite and walk over Dale farm with you. And be with you when call the sheep into the yards. It looks like such a relaxed way to move sheep. Here I would be on a motorbike and use a dog to drive them along. I doubt it will happen but I just think to visit my UA-cam farmer friends would be such a wonderful experience.

Not a bad scan there. Alot of peoples scans have been down on last year due to the difficult summer. Ewes must have been in good condition at tupping time and you must have a good tup too. Going to be a busy lambing time. All the best 🇬🇧.

I love your sheep vids especially and i still like your other content and i scanned my ewes on my model farm and congratulations on the results and i can remember when the lambs were little and they r now all grown up and ur content kept me going through lockdown so thank you honestly mine were no baron 10 twins 2 triplets and 3 singles on my model farm pretty good like yours im so happy for u and nick

Great video, thank you. WOW! Didn't you do well in getting such a great ram? Didn't dad do well in building up such a wonderful flock? The farm is an ongoing enterprise; it did not stop when dad did, but thanks to him, plus those who went before him, you're living in a growing thing. Even covering up Nick's legs can't change how well you've done, and you have done well. Choosing to change the ram plus the new one. Plus, how you've tended the flock during the winter thus far. I didn't spot any having problems walking down; were there any? But they've had the foot treatments now and their scan. Great results too! You have every right to feel chuffed at the results; even to me, they sounded good. You've a good crop of lambs to look forward to, a culmination of your hard work; well done to you both!!!

Excellent news on the scanning I know you need the ingredients to make a lamb 🐑 but stockmanship has to play a massive part as well you’ve worked so hard and now you can see the rewards great job

Well done, Jo and Nick, excellent results! I was quite taken aback by the size of those bolus (boluses/bolii ?). They are quite huge so it was impressive how you (and the sheep!) coped with that job. Take care, both of you.
I was also taken aback by the size of the bolus when I saw it in the farm store! And certainly felt daunted about the prospect of administering it, but took my time and it went okay!! Feel more confident about doing it next time!

Congratulations- 200% is an excellent result. From what I see the industry tends to be happy with 180%.
Was this really the first confirmation that your new ram had done his job?
Could you maybe have left out the tup a bit longer with the ewes, re-raddled, and seen if there had been any further ‘activity’ once the ewes were all supposed to have been tipped?

Amazing scan results which your scanner is right other farmers on other channels have said they’ve not done so well this year compared to last year prob due to the hot summer we had. A long day with the bolus tablets but must be worth it if they last 6 months? So happy for you and nick 😊
Thank you Carol, yes those mineral bolus where huge and I was a but nervous to use them but the staff in the farm store were very knowledgeable and then I rang our vet to ask

What a result. Due to the drought in the summer. Scanning % seem to have been lower than typical in the UK.

Definitely proud of each season we have got through since my dad passed! Each one has had different challenges, - the good scan was a relief and a little Pat on the back that things are going better than I sometimes give myself credit for - being my own harshest critic x
