Nice refreshing, unbiased, and direct to-the-point review! The humor also fits, without dragging things out with a lot of chatter like most other reviewers.
If I understand well, another difference between version 2 and 3 is the input impedance: 500kOhm for v2, 1MOhm for v3. Higher input impedance can be better for passive instruments.
I chose this over strobo, boss, korg and other tuners! Being able to play while the tuner is on helps me with bending a lot not to mention its other useful functionalities!
Nice job man. Really like how you incorporate lots of elements... including the humor! Being able to have the pedal come on with the ES8 would really be helpful... but I'm going to keep my 2 until its not working. Maybe by then you'll have a review on the Poly 4 or 5 lol.
Good review and I really appreciate your thorough testing on the accuracy... I bought a Polytune 3 (full size) several years ago and I returned it the very next day because I strongly felt the base chromatic tuning was off! I unfortunately didn't even mess with the strobe mode, wish I had, but I returned it and got the Peterson stomp HD and it felt dead on immediately, plus I really prefer the display but that's just subjective opinion. I also tried a Polytune clip... same deal, returned it and ended up with a Peterson clip lol which has been great. I didn't like the TU3 either, the Peterson stuff just always sounds dead on when I'm done doing a full intonation and tuning... sorry if I sound like I work for them, just have nothing but good things to say about em! I've recently revisited the idea of picking up another PT3 primarily because I want to have buffer at the start and end of my pedal chain and the StroboStomp HD is already perfect as the first pedal in my signal chain (high quality buffer with 100 Ohm output) so I was going to toss a BonaFide buffer at the very end but I can get the damn PT3 for a few more bucks and then have a more diverse option, etc. One thing telling about the PT3... neither Guitar Center nor my local music store even carry TC Electronic pedals anymore... might be politics, but I've seen an awful lot of complaints about failures with these pedals and to see that neither GC or my local shop (which is pretty large!) even carry them at all? That seems odd... they are readily available on Sweetwater and AMZN though. That said, I am going to pick up another PT3 mostly for the buffer and having a backup / alternate tuner for another $20-30 (full size vs mini) just seems like a good option to me at least.
Nice demo. I have an old Korg pitchblack (cca 10y) and I'm happy with it, the only thing I wish it had is always on mode. Good observation from you noticing that Polytune in always on mode doesn't show if it's muted. Seems like a pretty unnecessary design flaw to me.
What does he say at 2:59. "You can then step on your footswitch to (be?) your signal in tune? And what's he saying after is the only downside to always on mode?
He’s saying that in always on mode you can silence it by pressing the foot switch to tune quietly, but unlike regular mode the display turning on won’t tell you that it’s on and silent. Easy to pick up on with your ears, but easier still with the visual cue as well.
Conclusion : strobe mode is dope. Thumbs up and a sub to you I think you are making a great work 🤘🏼 the only thing is that I would added a « how to activate the different modes » because I still don’t know what should I push on the pedal to activate the strobe mode
That was way more entertaining than it had a right to be and even more insightful than I hoped. Awesome. Thank you. One question: If you set it to strobe mode, will it remember this setting next time it powers up?
Thanks for the video! A question though: does it work with any notes or does it target specifically guitar tunings? (Not talking about the all-string mode ofc). Would it work reasonably for other instruments (eg. violin, ukulele)?
just got my mini 3 and did the same test side to side my mini 2. actually I don't see that dimming feature at all! they are bright just the same no matter what the luminosity of the room is 🤔
@@ManBunMetalHead oh wow that surprises me too. I figured the clip on would be less accurate. I just ordered me a noir. I have their clip on that i use for my acoustic. Looking forward to this pedal for my electric.
I dont like the strobing mode because its impossible to get the guitar in tune, its always to sharp or to flat.. i dont want the tuner to be to accurate and to sensitive just enough so its usable.
You speak pretty fast. I guess I can use the playback option but would be nice not to have to resort to that. But, Thank You for that great in-depth review! So much information in a great format. Just enough humour :) You have a great delivery presence. Subscribed. Best Regards and Best Wishes for 2023!
Too wordy. Effeminate snowflake is trademarked by most independent fundamental baptist churches so be careful using that wording. Especially near movie theaters and contemporary Christian music concerts. I’m glad I could educate you a little. Don’t apologize for taking up my time. It’s a pleasure to help others using otherwise useless information.
This is how to demo a product. Well done man.
This takes a lot of work for those who don’t know.
Much appreciated!

I'm updating from a Polytune 3 to a Polytune 3 Noir just to save space. It hurts but I'll take the pain. Thanks for the video.
This was extremely helpful and an excellent review on something that seems pretty basic. Thanks!

I agree with the other comment about you doing more demos of pedals. Do you do a really great job! Cool video!

All you need to do to change the tuning mode is hold down the tuning mode button on the right side of the pedal for a few seconds.
@@ManBunMetalHead alright thank’s mate I’ll try this tomorrow as it’s already late in France 😛
Great video
I think i'm a big idiot, but when you turn the tuner on, it does kill the signal right? even if always on is 'on' ?
Hi! Does this work for bass? Thanks
That was way more entertaining than it had a right to be and even more insightful than I hoped. Awesome. Thank you.
One question: If you set it to strobe mode, will it remember this setting next time it powers up?
Thanks! Yes, the pedal will stay in Strobe mode until you change it.
Good boy, the empress compressor is a beast 😊
Very good video.
@ManBunMetalHead hey, can you recommend a good power adapter for the pedal?
If you need to power only the Polytune the TrueTone 1 Spot is great. If you need to power multiple the TrueTone CS6 and CS12 are great.
Why does the Noir cost $30 more than the either of the other Polytune 3’s.
It’s “tactical”
Supermodel mode ( cos it's pretty )
Fantastic review! Did you try the difference between buffered and unbuffered with other pedals in the chain?
Thanks for the video! A question though: does it work with any notes or does it target specifically guitar tunings? (Not talking about the all-string mode ofc).
Would it work reasonably for other instruments (eg. violin, ukulele)?
yeah me too. I was wondering if it would work on a bass guitar. please let me know if it works on a bass guitar.
It should work just for those. It doesn't have a problem detecting 12-fret on the high E-string
could you please show the difference between the buffer vs TBP sound? thanks!!!
Love this video, would love to see more pedal demos in the future
Thanks for the feedback. They seem to do pretty well. There a few in the works.

Since there is a buffer built in this tuner. Do I still need a dedicated output buffer on the end?
Are these more accurate than the polytune clip on? I assume they are.
According to the product specs no, they have the same accuracy, which does surprise me.
@@ManBunMetalHead oh wow that surprises me too. I figured the clip on would be less accurate. I just ordered me a noir. I have their clip on that i use for my acoustic. Looking forward to this pedal for my electric.
good man
Hey great and useful review. I have a question though, does it have a mode to tune non standard tuning, say half step down?
Yes it does. I have mine set up a whole step down.
@@ManBunMetalHead awesome, thanks ao much. This is the final push i need to get this tuner, been eyeing this for a while now
Is there a way to change the reference pitch on the mini?
When you step on the switch to tune, does it act as a mute?
Yes it does
Is it okay to tune a bass with it?
Yes it is
Why won’t this thing recognize low E on my acoustic Taylor?
How do you like it compared to the boss tuner?
Does it have a battery?
It does not
Hi, does this tuner calibrate down to 432 Hz? Thanks!
I don't think you can adjust the frequency
I'm also surprised that the signal passes through the tuner even if it is switched to buffered bypass mode and not connected to the power supply.
Why?
nice review, showing that a simple tuner can be complex af, why? it's just tune jiz
I dont like the strobing mode because its impossible to get the guitar in tune, its always to sharp or to flat.. i dont want the tuner to be to accurate and to sensitive just enough so its usable.
