- Early season goose hunting has kicked off up north but for this hunt we're taking it back to some late season kayak jump shooting that I did with Drew. The duck and goose hunting in Virginia started off pretty good in 2022 due to a couple cold snaps that locked up swamps and other feeding areas. We decided to take advantage of the cold weather by floating down a skinny creek in our kayaks in the hope of finding groups of birds hanging out on the flowing water. We saw lots of birds, missed some opportunities, and got some good jumps too. Hope you enjoy!

Got me a canoe two days ago that will be put in so that I can try some of the float hunting myself this year in VA
Sycamores are very fast growing trees. Nice to see you guys observing your surroundings and being cautious when near the houses. Good call.
I appreciate it and thanks for the insight into the sycamores as well! There sure are some big ones along there but I doubt there as old as we thought if they grow quick

Early goose starts here in California tomorrow. Gonna try to decoy some on the river then jump shoot after if that doesn’t work.
Flushed some woodies out of overhanging bamboo like at 8:08 in January. They can always hide but in that stuff they REALLY can hide.
Awesome numbers of Woodies! Picking up my Prodigy 1854 next week. Let me know if you could use a boat in some of those spots. I’m in Danville and can travel anytime.
They were thick all over the state this past January from what I saw! Most these creek spots are kayak only but I'll let you know if I come across some stuff this season that's ideal for a rig like that!

Thank you! The main thing you have to be aware of is that you can't trespass on the lands around the waterbody. That's a big reason why we are very selective with our shots when on these floats since you need to drop the birds in the water

It ended up being totaled but it was relatively new so I was able to get something similar with the insurance money

Oh sorry goose season was in 4 days not teal it opens on the September 14, but habitats looking decent right now. But last season was fairly warm in MS not many ducks so hope for the best.

What choke and ammo do you use
I got pinned on one of the last days last season when it was 18 degrees early in the morning. I got a little wet but my gun got soaked. Luckily after a few shells the gun thawed out and ended with a good day and a couple stories to tell
That’s a good hunt one of my favorite ways to cook geese or woodies is to wrap em In Bacon and grill um

What’s the ideal time of day for this kind of hunt? For early resident Canadas specifically.
Depends on if the birds are going out to feed in fields. If they aren't then anytime of day is fine, if they are then you'd only want to do it midday

May not be invasive/planted bamboo. Might be river cane, which is indigenous to America.
If you read about the pioneers of Kentucky, there were massive canebrakes like you saw all along the rivers.

Did your channel get hacked? I received an email asking me to text a reply to enter a hunt giveaway. Your pic is shown in the email but it is not sure it’s you sending this email. After checking the video most of the people who commented got the same email as I did.
Was it an email or just a comment? These kind of scams asking you to text or email have been pretty common this year unfortunately. They don’t actually hack my channel but just take the picture from my account and try to pose as me
@@HokeOutdoors it was an email. The person actually replied to this email and posed as you stating it was a “legit” deal. I sent a text reply and the response was that I would receive a fishing kayak if I paid for the shipping. I declined. I checked later and all the offers had been scrubbed from your video.
@@HokeOutdoors can you contact UA-cam to ask how to block the email (and sender) that I received ? The email was posted from UA-cam and if I block it I think it will prevent any email coming from UA-cam, not just this scammer.
I think the spent casings need to be picked up. I see this trash all the time while out kayaking.
