This whole experience reminds me of growing up before smart phones and Surfline and just getting in the car with my bros and using our knowledge of the region, weather, wind, and swell direction to score good waves. It didn't always happen and a lot of times we drove for hours and got skunked at the end but the prospect of coming around a bend and seeing it absolutely firing kept us going. When it did all come together it was magic.
ye spending tens of thousend of dollars to look for waves in the middle of the artic with no phones but satellite forecasts and hitech wetsuit....remind me that too
What a great video. This is the surfing lifestyle in its purest form, pioneering isolated line-ups, choose your next wave as you please in some of the most beautiful settings. True surfing indeed.
Great film. As far as perfection is concerned, it’s hard to rival coral and sand bottom points. I think where cold water really shines is the thicker, denser water texture. Harder surface, faster to plane off perhaps, a firmer feel underneath. Harder impacts on the fails, but I’d take the harder surface, imperfect but uncrowded over the busy perfect tropical line ups all day.
40 years ago we were surfing 35 degree F water in NJ with 20 degree F air and a 15 knot off-shore wind. Yeah, wetsuits are much better these days and I plan to upgrade from my first generation Patagonia R5, circa 2008, to something else this season. But we were on it in the 1980s. Don't be so smug with saying no one could do this 25 years ago because of wetsuit technology.
How long would you stay out at a time? Im sure he knows people could back then. Anyone can jump in the water for a short ammount of time. The technology now days just allows you to stay out for hours on end comfortably.
Allright, two questions here: you were talking about good wetsuits .....which one exactly? Also: please provide the water temperatures encountered in celsius Mahalo
They are all sponsored surfers are wearing their sponsors brands. Any hooded 6/4 top of the line wetsuit from gye major brands would work. 7mm boots and 7mm mitt gloves. Sea temp between 1 and 6c
Also depends on the wetsuit maker and the type or neoprene they use. Seventhwave Wetsuits made in NZ are super warm, I’m even too warm in their 3/3 in winter here in South Island NZ
Incredible country, great waves-- what an adventure! I’m old enough to remember when going to Baja was heading into the unknown and this brought it back… only problem is that somebody should have directed the narrator to put some emotion into it… not the kids fault, but the engineer /producer should have stepped up… I found myself feeling big parts of it seemed somehow flat because of the droning g… too bad because he must have been so stoked !

Long Island surfers heartily agree

I surf in Texas in December with no wetsuit. So there! Lol.

What about taking your boards to the spot with a god damn snow mobile? That guy is a legend
what camera do you use to film? - especially in the first 2 minutes - looks unreal!
What is the water temperature in these places

BRRRR !
Yeah it looks real cold in a few shots 🥶
10:45 Ron Perlman
Imagine hopping into a hot tub after that session
wow
So good right?!
What track is this ?
Find JEsus, nothing like it and it saves your soul (repent and believe)
Music please?
Nobody skinned it?
You better be able to find waves with a helicopter and a tank at your disposal
If there’s no one in sight why are you trying your hardest to to impress with your surfing
I would feel guilty burning 6000 gallons of petrol just to find a mediocre slab
I just came here because my algorithm takes me to scorched animal heads.
Wow great film, but would you guys mind saving some fossil fuels for the rest of us?
