Fotis a big thank YOU for your time and sharing this knowledge, taking the time to go into details about how why and when you have done things is great for us trying to learn. Narrating has allowed me to watch while you're doing (rather than reading and rewinding :) while listening so loving that you have done this, keep up the great work!
The way you talk/describe the progress of your Arakawa is awesome! You definitely have a vision of what you want to achieve with time. Bonsai has slowly made me appreciate the long journey that is bonsai. It has definitely made me a better person overall! I look forward to updates in the future! You have true skill, friend!! Thank you for sharing.
Such a great video! Your imagery and descriptions of your journey with this tree were both fantastic. I would love to work on a bonsai at your place one day. Truly beautiful. Keep up the amazing work.
@ArkefthosBonsai our Ontario, Canada winters can be tough on some Japanese maples so I have typically been sheltering them in my unheated garage over winter. I can still do this if I put the trees in the ground in grow bags or baskets but could mean a new annual tradition of transplanting.
@hyperionhelios190 I don't know how much time you can spend on these, but the time window of transplanting maples is quite wide. For good health, maples need a 60 day period of dormancy. After that you can start repotting and working the roots. Basically from February on and until you see open leaves, you can work on them, as long as you protect worked trees from very low temperatures, like 5 deg below freezing and lower. Plus, trees in the ground might need work every 4 years or so.
Great video, thank you for sharing the lessons you’ve learned over the years of working on this tree. 🙏🏽 I’m grateful to be able to learn from dedicated bonsai artists like you, so I can avoid the same problems. (I have plenty of my own to fix as it is 😅😂) I’m looking forward to rooting some more rough bark Japanese maples this year! 🪴 🍁 Do you have a favorite tree in your garden?
Thank you! Very beautiful comment! Good luck with your trees! Cuttings of Arakawa are quite an exciting challenge but with a great reward! Yes, I do have one tree that slightly steps ahead others, it's the big Cedrus atlantica with multiple trunks. Perhaps because it's so unique.... Cheers!
Excellent question! Sometimes I dig them out completely, lift them, check them and maybe even move them, sometimes just dig around the tree and leave it there. I have a huge pine growing in the garden and as I'm preparing it for digging next year, I will just dig around it, cutting everything that spreads out but leave the tap root alone, until it's time for a pot. Cheers!
Thank you Svetlin! Branches start showing rough bark from 4 years old but in 2 to 3 years they get completely covered. It's relatively fast, nice cultivar! Have a great Sunday!
Look for a non grafted tree, that's where the value lies Kenneth! I usually write the mix I'm using in the captions - subtitles, it was 50% zeolite, 30% perlite and about 10% organic aggricates. Cheers!
love this kinda new narration style type of your videos💪 happy growing😊
Glad you like this format Christian! Have a great day!

Thank you Harvey! I appreciate your feedback mate!
amazing video, thanks for sharing the knowledge.
Thank you Mohamed! Have a great Sunday! Cheers!
The tree and pot compliment each other beautifully! I hope you will show what it looks like after its leaves have come out.
Thank you Susan! I'm thinking of doing an early summer pruning and striking cuttings video in June. So you might! Cheers!

Thank you Dave for the beautiful words! Have you ever been in Greece?
@@ArkefthosBonsai my daughter has, but not me. She’s d love to someday!
@DavesBonsai thank you Dave! Greece is expecting you! Cheers!
I appreciate all the additional high performance commentary in this video! I am very inspired to put some of my maples in the ground!
Thank you for your feedback! There is no other technique to develop nice trees than growing in the ground properly. Cheers!

No conocía el término "nemawashi". Siempre se aprende algo nuevo.
El arakawa tiene mucho carácter en su corteza. Será un gran árbol.
Salud.

Thank you Fabian! I've done a couple of videos about nemawashi in the past. Pretty important! Have a great morning!

Still watching the video! But what would you have done, the nemawasi thing, cut the roots around the tree with a spade? or dig it up completely?

Amazing development since only 2013.
It was happy in the ground and thickened fast! Καλημέρα!
I have to look for a 'Arakawa' for myself. but shat is the substrate you plant in, is it pure perlite, or something else?

What substrate do I use in this transplant, zeolite and perlite? thanks from Argentina

Τι χώμα χρησιμοποιείς για τα δέντρα σου;
Κυρίως διάφορες αναλογίες ζεόλιθου, περλίτη, ελαφρόπετρα και οργανικού χώματος από το δάσος, ανάλογα το είδος.
👍👍
