He is sandbagging for the purpose of setting them up for a favorable negotiation for the next race. They had the Honda covered by a lot but you can’t let the cat out of the bag in the first race. Very savvy street racers. The Honda guys got schooled.

This reminds me of some dirt track racing series that were somewhat common in the 1990s. I can't remember the name, but it was designed to be cars worth less than $3000. Anyone in the race could buy one of the top 3 cars for $3000 after the race. So if you decide to spend too much money and finish on the podium, you would likely lose the extra money you put into it. It kept it fun and lower cost with no real incentive to cheat.
I remember when this episode first aired. I can't believe the dude driving the Civic thought the track wouldn't be sticky that far down. What a chucklehead. 😆

Thanks for releasing this video. I lived under a rock for many years (no tv), so I'm waaaay behind on the backstories of all the racers. Watching Street Outlaws now, but in Canada we aren't getting all the episodes (eg. the last 3 or 4 of Endgame). Sucks! I remember the pink slip days! City street drags from the lights. Had a Nova hatchback "sleeper". Didn't look like much, but... And the fact that I'm a woman made many of the guys think I'd be easy prey. NOT 🤣🤣Pink slip wins that were sold, & pool hustling paid for my post secondary education. Fast forward 20+ years. I'm in a small city, & 1 of the cops & I are good buddies. He's stopped me I can't remember how many times for speeding - but never a ticket. I then own a company & have all GM family vehicles. My personal one is a (heavily) modified Caprice. Encounter him about 6am patrolling the main drag, while I'm on my way to grab morning coffee. Windows rolled down to shoot the shit when at the lights. No traffic so we sit through 2 cycles before deciding we should have a little race. I cleaned his clock - though to be fair, we had to call it after 7 blocks due to a vehicle in his lane. He ended up pulling them over. Stolen car. Driver's license suspended for DUI & too many accrued points. Outstanding warrants, so to jail they went. Buddy ended up having to work overtime to finish processing him/get vehicle towed. Got a pat on the back from the chief, which was much easier to swallow than trying to explain he'd lost his cruiser in a drag race, he said! Happy days!
The car Dave drove was ten times faster, what made Dave look so good is he made it seem close. He kept those races close and I am pretty sure he would also won the 15 car length race
What’s crazy to think about is that this was so long ago that 13 seconds in the quarter was really fast but nowadays people can buy cars that do that from the factory
To be honest the 90s mustangs with a 302 and a 150 shot nitrous added would run low 11s on 10inch slicks. So they built and brought a 13 sec car my a**
They are supposed to know cars because they are all racers. Apparently the 405 is better at hustling. Big Chief looked at their car for 10 seconds and they looked at the 405 car for 5 minutes and still couldn't beat them. Damn shame.
I laughed when the Honda guys said they were surprised that there was an LS in AZN's Fox Body. There are only a handful that I have seen of Coyote's in a Fox Body 99.9999% are LS of some sort. And wow how young they all were back then. Daddy Dave was sandbagging the hell out of that first race. I miss this show it was always so much fun to watch.
This is real racing. It's what street outlaws was in season 1. I rarely watch now, If I wanted to watch guys with cars worth more than my home race, I'd go to the strip. Bring back real street racing with cars that have DMV tags that you could drive to the "track" and drive home
