It's amazing how good Angel Beats still was after being cut down and makes me wonder how much better it could have been had they been given a full run time.
In my opinion Undead Murder Farce is transformative enough with its use of public domain characters that it doesn't feel unoriginal. I mean, we've got Phileas Fogg possessing an item that ties into the anime's worldbuilding, Arsene Lupin working with the freakin' Phantom of the Opera, Moriarty's got his own thing going on... And the stylistic flair makes these fun reimaginings even more engaging
How would you consider the manga vs the light novel? I havent read any of the manga but have listened to the first volume and a half of the novel and really enjoy the series so far

i didnt knew about undead murder farce, only checked it out this week and I have a lot of fun watching it. Regarding the use of characters from fiction, i quite like it but it came unexpected for what the earlier episodes showed of the story.
My main bff told me this and being the big bookworm I am (especially for Sherlock Holmes as that’s my favorite book series), I was like “I’m listening.”.
Personally, I'm really liking Undead Murder Farce and the direction they've been taking. It really is just a melting pot of different horror and mystery concepts and characters; we had vampires, oni, and immortals to start and now it's Sherlock Holmes, James Moriarty, and Arsene Lupin. At some point we'll get Frankenstein and hopefully a bunch of other cool horror tropes like werewolves, zombies, mummies, or whatever else. It's cool seeing what they do with all these classics!

My favorite surprise show of the season has been Heretical Last Boss Queen. Can't explain why, but this particular protag's overwhelming desire to not use her powers for evil knowing she's the destined "final boss" of the story is just so interesting to me.
I'm really happy to see a josei series in the top spot! So often josei and shoujo series don't get the attention they deserve. My Happy Marriage is really good.
Finally, anime delays happening and not messing up with my schedule! In previous seasons I had problems with "Uncle From Another World", "Misfit of the Demon Academy 2" (it is still not came out!), "KamiKatsu", "BOFURI Season 2" and probably some other anime shows I can't currently remember. Knock on wood there will be no delays in "Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon", "My Unique Skill Makes Me OP even at Level 1", "Am I actually the Strongest?", "Sweet Reincarnation", "The Great Cleric", "The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen: From Villainess to Savior", "My Tiny Senpai", "The Dreaming Boy is a Realist", "My Happy Marriage" and "Classroom for Heroes", these are ten anime I care about in summer season. Of course there also "Jobless Reincarnation Season 2", but creators of this show took a note from "Attack on Titans", and split the season in two for the SECOND time. So I will watch it not in october 2023 but in july 2024 instead
The screenwriter for Witch from Mercury did an interview for, I want to say ACE?, and in said interview he mentioned that they were hired only to do two short seasons. So Witch from Mercury was exactly as long as it was meant to be.
I've been reading S Rank Daughter, IT IS GREAT! Anime Trending is still derp lol, but I am glad that My Happy Marriage is #1. I love that series so and also been reading it. The novels are great.
I'm actually really happy I agree with and have watched a majority of the top 10. And I am going out on a limb and at this point in time (ep 6 or 7)... My Happy Marriage is a contender for Anime of the Year... not just of the season.
You should really give The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses and especially The Masterful Cat is Depressed Again Today another chance. The weird Gohands camera movements and animation were only present in the first 2 or so episodes (mainly the 1st). But Masterful Cat is just funny all around!
I'd give Masterful Cat another chance, but Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses' biggest problem wasn't the animation. The infantilization fetish is uncomfortable to say the least.

to me Bungou Stray Dogs is like My Hero Academia mixed with Jojo's Bizarre Adventure with power system and how the battles work, the characters just happened to based on real life book authors from around the world.
Definitely underrated here in the west. It's a great series. I read that this season is catching up to the manga, so IDK if this is going to be the last season😢

What are you talking about? These delays have nothing to do with production. They finish making the season they are releasing before they begin airing. There’s no ‘rush’ for the current season. It’s all been made. This statement doesn’t apply to Zom100 or any of the other delays..
You’re thinking of weekly manga or future seasons of anime which can indeed be rushed. But seasonal anime are not made and released in the same season 😅

One thing that urked me about Undead Murder Farce is the Phantom of the Opera. This is a character whose hideous deformity contrasts against the beautiful music he is capable of. But you just COULDN'T help yourself, could you anime?! You made him a handsome bishie whose "deformity" barely qualifies as a BIRTHMARK!
I love Zom 100 and Synduality Noir. Both are excellent and alot of fun to watch. A great escape from the dull life draining pit that is the 2020's.... Im hopting there's 24 episodes of Synduality Noir. Just watched episode 11 and there's too much left open.

still salty about the Misfit at Demon King Academy delay ngl I re-watched the whole first season when the 2nd started airing and by the time episode 7 comes out (supposedly Aug 19?) I have almost no memory of s2 at least "Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts" is quality, as is that isekai about the vending machine.
I think all animes would be better off if they released bi-weekly. Animators could have time to breathe, you could give more shows a chance, since you are bi-weekly you would have 2 shows in the same time slot...hopefully from different studios or animation teams, otherwise this bi-weekly strategy would do nothing. I don't think this would mean more anime, it would just mean combining like spring and summer line up together and fall and winter together. I'm not sure how this would mess with the seasons, but I think delays have done good things for episodes I've seen after a delay. They have sakuga scenes that look great and clearly needed more time. While one particularly agregious offender SHOULD have delayed due to large swaths of minute being purely scenery and the action scene being short and zoomed in so you could hardly tell what was happening (Looking at you cheat in another world making me good in both). It should have been delayed. Could have been something good.
Dissapointed that Nanatsu no Maken ga Shihai suru and Lv1 Maou to One Room Yuusha weren't on that list. (Especially bc I very much disagree wt some of the entries that were). Also Helck.

To me undead murder farce just feels like a love letter to western literature. I love the way they've incorporated all those characters.

I wouldn't call it a surprise because the fans hyped it a ton. for me the surprise of the season is for sure my happy marriage.

It's great, but I'm doubtful it'll reach the heights of Tengoku Daimakyou or Oshi no Ko, but we'll see.

Which is odd because it clearly needed like another 20-30 episodes and all of the character development just magically concludes in like 20 minutes.

J Novel also has the light novel of My Daughter Left the Nest. It's much further than the manga and I'd highly recommend it
The audio books are very well produced as well :) if youre not much of a reader or can listen at work its an excellent option!

One of the best of the season despite the beta MC. Mie makes up for that in spades.

I agree in some aspects. The fights are still awesome, but they're not as dynamic as the previous season. We'll have to see how they adapt Shibuya though.
