Here's a good tip. Unexpectedly see a bike, horse, tractor etc on the road - don't just say to yourself "oh look at that"- actively look out for a second one. You'd be surprised how often there's a second bike/horse/pedestrian round the next corner !
Same could be said for emergency vehicles best to never assume the one you can see is the only one, it is common for multiple emergency services or multiple units from the same service to respond to a single incident. So it probably helps to anticipate further emergency vehicles to follow or emerge from any intersections any time you see one especially if they are blue lighting. Especially useful considering that multiple sirens or flashing light sources could blur together or be mistaken for reflections/echos if you are not thinking to look for more of them.

I've wedged a ketchup bottle in between the sofa cushions and look ahead at the video whilst 'changing gears'. This improvisation actually really works as I go through all the different gears. My instructor has seen an improvement on my gear changes! Your videos are making a positive impact on my learning thank you! 😍

Advanced Driving I am old Driver ,but defensive driving video gives real time advise of what is happening continously on the road as one drives. Every second the situation on the road changes. So being defensive in driving is very very important for your personal safety and other road users. Very Good insight even for old Drivers. Very very important information. Thanks alot.
Defensive driving is all well & good and should be practiced at all times. Sadly there is not one driving plan that covers all situations. Driving in the country side is totally different to driving in Bury St Edmunds. And London has so many variants that you need three or four different driving plans just to make it to the supermarket. That's not to mention the plan you need to operate a shopping trolley once inside
Good introduction to the rapidly increasing decline of the importance of the skill of defensive driving, borne out of the ever increasing automation of modern vehicles. Whilst technically vehicles are undoubtedly safer than ever before ( with the exception of the ridiculous lighting systems), they remove the involvement of the driver which in turn is causing lack of conscious cognitive processes. May I suggest at 9:48 replacing ‘decrease’ with ‘reduce’. Decrease and increase are so close to each other and using ‘reduce’ would completely eliminate any chance of any misunderstanding. Perhaps also, in line with Emergency Service protocols, the term accident should be replaced with collision. For similar reasons, amongst which is the that the word ‘accident’ is proven to have a more subliminal negative effect than ‘collision’. Regards

That can be tricky to judge. Don't be afraid of driving slowly when there are hazards around - but balance that by getting right up to the speed limit when you find a wide, clear road. Good luck :-)
Thanks for your kind reply. Actually people who live in South Asia. They use horn unnecessary to roads and different places. Specially in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, etc. So far I know only blind spot or dark bending horn is allowed. But if people visit and drive internationally then they should know regarding horn using rules. Thanks in advance
In the UK we very rarely use our horn - and when we do it must only be to warn others of our presence. I can’t even remember the last time I used mine! We’ll have a think to see if there is enough to fill a video 👍🏼
Probably not, as that would mean taking our foot off the accelerator and slowing down a little for every junction we pass. Just be observant, and ready to react if needed 👍🏼
In London I find a lot of road signage (such as that keep clear) is ignored because it is incorrectly used by the council's etc. I recently received a penalty notice for obstructing a keep clear box adjacent to a dropped kerb. The trouble is the building that used to benefit from this had been demolished over a year ago and the dropped kerb served no purpose. I had to contest the matter in court and take my own pictures to prove that the council were mis-leading the court. The"Keep Clear" in this video did not need to span the whole junction. It really only needed to keep the lane clear that allowed traffic off of the main carriageway

All you can do is chill out and be patient. There might be a good reason that they need to drive slowly - although there’s no excuse for being in the wrong lane!
In the U.K. we have to be at least 17 to be able to drive on the road normally. Any course will take as long as it takes to reach the required standard (and pass the test if required!)

@@AdvanceDrivingSchool there are some very rare cases of being able to drive a car at 16. You can get a licence if you have a medical dependency that requires you to drive. Generally this means you need to be in receipt of a UK benefit called the enhanced rate of the mobility component of the Personal Independence Payment (PIP).
What in particular would like us to cover? We've done several videos about hill starts and junctions separately, and between the two videos there isn't much left to show. Let us know if we've forgotten something!

I've driven left hand drive cars (both auto and manual) in the US and Europe - and it doesn't take very long to get used to driving on the other side of the car / road. What does make me concentrate is all the different road signs and rules though!
@@AdvanceDrivingSchool I passed most of my basic driving tests in the Army. This meant doing a course at Leaconfield in a right hand drive vehicle on the "CORRECT" side of the road. I was then returned to my unit in Germany when I had to then do a conversion course to drive on the wrong side of the road in a left hand drive vehicle completely going against all the training I had received in the UK. However, I'm in my 60's and still drive everything from a Vauxhall Astra to specialised articulated lorries that deliver some really weird cargoes
I'm sorry but this is angering me so much, from the contradictions, to horrible roads. Where in the hell are these horrific roads? I fully understand that it is a different country, and the driving is on the opposite side of the road, but I would not call this Defensive Driving. More like stress inducing roads from incompetent designers. Half your car in another persons lane, having to zig zag between parked cars, and my favorite, having no room in your own lane because 1 foot to the left, you hit a curb, one to the right you hit a car. Would defensive driving honestly be needed if roads were properly done? The video itself states "A full doors width length to parked cars" Don't get me wrong, ALL of the information provided in this video is excellent advice, to a new driver, but at 2:30 , parked in the road? forcing you to drive literally half your car in another persons lane? It could be the camera, but I have a very hard time believing you are giving them a full doors width of room. The very next example at 2:50, i understand, different country, but what are these random bump out curbs? Why? Left, right, left right, AND it's a two way lane?? Some have over 80-90% of their cars parked ontop of curbs.
We are in the UK, and unfortunately many of our roads were made before cars were invented! Having so many narrow and busy roads makes driving a challenge, but since we have a very strict driving test we have some of the lowest accident statistics in the world.

Is it a good idea to keep the brake pedal covered when passing junctions Incase somebody pulls out?
Probably not, as that would mean taking our foot off the accelerator and slowing down a little for every junction we pass. Just be observant, and ready to react if needed 👍🏼

If we indicate too much (for example every time we pass a parked car) it might confuse others and lead to danger.
You should only really indicate when there is someone to benefit from it. Don't do it robotically as this generates confusion
